I have a buddy who's going to San Diego next week. Any suggestions on beer he should be looking for?
Also, anybody try the Stone Cali Belgique?
So my buddy doesn't discriminate against beer. He would just like to try stuff we couldn't find here. Things like Alpine and Stone Enjoy By (which I haven't seen yet) I think are his style.
This is an amazing list. Thanks dude. Will rep when I can.San Diego is the King of hoppy beers.
Stone Enjoy By (current release is 4/20/15)
Alpine Nelson
Alpine Duet
Alpine Pure Hoppiness
(pretty much any hoppy Alpine beer, their non-hoppy beers are just ok)
Societe The Pupil
Societe The Apprentice
Societe The Roustabout
Alesmith IPA
If you can find it
Russian River Pliny the Elder (or the Younger)
Russian River Blind Pig
Any of Russian River's Sour Ales (Beatification, Consecration, Supplication, Temptation, Sanctification, etc.)
Knee Deep Simtra
For non-hoppy beers
Alesmith Speedway Stout
Alesmith Numbskull
Alesmith Wee Heavy
Most of the Hanagar 24 Barrel Roll series is pretty good
Other good to great San Diego beers that seem to be available in Texas so might not be unique:
Ballast Point Sculpin
Green Flash Palate Wrecker
Ballast Point Dorado
Green Flash West Coast DIPA
Ballast Point Victory at Sea Coffee Vanilla Porter
I have also enjoyed Coronado Skull Wrapper IPA and Coronado Sock Knocker DIPA but they aren't as good as the other IPAs/DIPAs on this list.
Other California beers that are available in Texas but might be worth trying in SD
Bear Republic Racer 5
Bear Republic Apex
Bear Republic Racer 15
Bear Republic Racer X
I am sure that some others such as GoldenDome or NDCrusader can provide more info than me. If I think of anything else I will let you know.
Edit: Also forgot to add very good but not great beers such as Port Brewing Hop 15, Port Brewing Mongo DIPA, and Lost Abbey makes some pretty good barrel aged beers such as The Angel Share, Deliverance and Cuvee de Tomme.
I have tried the Mr.Beer kit before......not good. I have been doing research and reading some books to brew my own beer. I have been so busy with work that I don't have the extra time. Hopefully when things slow down this summer I will set up something and brew my own. I would like to take classes as well.Do any of you guys brew? I want to start getting into it but am weary of the Mr. Beer type kits that kind of seem like a rip-off.
Suggestions?
