Just got back from a week-long vacation in San Diego. Alesmith everywhere, which was nice to see. Their stuff is stupid overpriced here in AZ, but everything is expensive in CA, so it was easier to justify the premium.

Tried Safeway's house brand of bourbon-- Samuel Grant-- because the price was right, and we were looking for a cheap Old Fashioned mixer. Apparently comes out of the Barton 1792 distillery. Sweet, astringent and obviously young, but not bad for the price. I moved on to Buffalo Trace later in the week.

Had Piraat, Gulden Draak, St. Bernarndus Abt. 12, and La Fin du Monde last night.

So you went to San Diego and drank the same beers you drink in AZ? :(

No Allagash? Which Alesmith's did you try?

Also have you had the new Oskar Blues Old Chub Nitro?

Ha! No. That was after my return to Arizona.

No Allagash?

Unfortunately, no. A vacation rental on Mission Beach and 4 young kids prevented me from really searching out interesting stuff. Had to settle for whatever was available in Ralph's and Von's.

Which Alesmith's did you try?

Wee Heavy (my favorite of the bunch), Horny Devil and Grand Cru. All very good, but I can't justify the high price in Arizona. I can find beers in all three of those styles that are as good or better for roughly half the cost.

Also have you had the new Oskar Blues Old Chub Nitro?

Now that is exciting. My go-to Scotch Ale, but nitrogenated. Any advice on where to find it? I usually hit Whole Foods and Total Wine, but haven't seen it yet.

Total Wine is carrying it. It has been in the Tucson Total Wine for about 2 weeks and I just checked all of the AZ locations (on-line) to be sure and they all have it in stock. $3 for a single 16oz can or $9 for a 4 pack of 16oz cans.

What do you think of it? I keep walking but it as I have been unimpressed with all of the other Founders IPAs (all day, centennial and Double Trouble). Is it worth trying?

It's pretty good, not the best IPA I've had but far from the worst. Tastes very hoppy, but smooth for the 12% ABV. I like it and would definitely drink it again. Although I like Double Trouble so maybe it's not for you.

Clown Shoes Space Cake DIPA. Great nose, good flavor though a little malty for my taste. Overall enjoyable but a bit overpriced.

Nice choice. Also drinking Clown Shoes tonight. I am having Crunkle Sam...Barleywine that I like a lot.
