I also had a "black" IPA but can't remember real name and restaurant website only has food menu listed.

What did you think of them? I had Space Cake DIPA last night. Like that beer a lot.

I liked Galactica. Lots of malt with some Orange and tangerine, maybe a touch more malt than I would normally like but still very good.

Tramp Stamp is ok. I am not a huge fan of Belgian IPAs though. Definitely has some of the Belgian yeast flavors.

I want to get a bomber of the Clown Shoes Muffin Top but the bottles at my local place are 6+ months old.

Duvel is very good. Black IPA's are hit and miss for me, some are very good and some are not so good.

Stone IPA is the benchmark for me .

The stuff is fantastic and they date there bottles .

Mon the Hoops ..

I think Stone IPA is probably the best regularly available IPA out there. I can't remember the last time I went to a grocery store that didn't carry it.

Well, not that anyone (least of all me) gives a shit, I've been hanging out in the Adirondacks the last two weeks at my brother's place on Big Moose Lake. I've had the pleasure of seeing family members I've not seen in years and meeting grand nieces and nephews I'd not yet met.

My son and his lady friend spent a few days dealing with the mayhem (there were something like 25 bodies: young, real (months) young, middle aged and on the older side like me. I drank a lot of coffee, milk, OJ and juices of one sort or another.

I also drank a few gallons of beer. Mostly locals. Saranac, Utica and LaBatt's. I threw in some Jameson and Jack Daniel's for good measure. The wines, red and white came from here and there and were of now and then vintage.

If you want cogent, flowery, pretentiously accurate descriptions, you're looking at the wrong Bozo On This Bus. I was having too much fun with family and getting far too drunk to give a rat's ass.

What I drank may not have been the best (or even good) but it was the right thing with the right people.

Pop that cork and take a big ol' swig.

I went to Frankford Hall, a beer garden in Philadelphia. Very cool place, good food. I had Weihenstephan Lager & Paulaner Hefeweizen. Both were drinkable, but neither was great. The lager was a tad sour, not as refreshing as I'd have liked. The hefeweizen was also a little flat, not on par with a really solid Hefe like Weihenstephaer's or even Sierra Nevada. It was still fun swigging beer out of a big ol' stein at a picnic table while I stuffed my face with bratwurst & cheese spaetzle.

Sierra Nevada Kellerweis because it is very hot today. One of the best summer beers especially given the price ($7.50 for a six pack).

Just tried Ace Hard Pineapple cider. That was delicious. Like an dry alcoholic piña soda.

Good call on Frankford Hall. Have you checked out Morgan's Pier?

Hate to tell ya...Weihenstephan is my favorite beer, but I am a solid wheat guy.

I haven't been to Morgan's Pier, but I plan to go back and check out some of the other Philly bier gardens.

Last night I had Flying Dog's Pearl Necklace Oyster Stout. I'm not a big fan of traditional stout, but I thought I'd give this a shot. It was OK. On the pro side, it had more flavor and body than a typical stout. Con: really heavy mouthfeel and body, it was like work drinking this. I got this over Gonzo porter because I figured the stout would be a lighter sipper for the unseasonably cool evening yesterday. This is definitely going to be a one-at-a-time beer.

Mean Time English Barleywine. Beer was flat! Taste was just off.

Now a Clown Shoes Galactica IPA.

For anyone in OH, PA, NJ, DE, etc...give Yuengling Summer Wheat a shot. I was pleasantly surprised. It's lighter and more refreshing than Sam Adams Summer, and usually half the price.

What did you think of the Galactica?

I see why you like it. Not super malty, light. Good IPA. Clown Shoes has achieved Stone status for me...if I see a beer by them in the store that I havent had, I'll try it with no second thoughts. Just a great brewery.
