I have long held Tecate is the worst major market beer I've ever had... can't even drink it.

Cadi Margaritas or Dos Equis with a lime if I'm having good Mexican food...

Tecate moves a lot of product for having no admitted fans. Both Americans and Mexicans hate it. Guys I've talked to (both Mexican and American) who think that Bud or Dos Equis are just the absolute tits as far as beer goes still turn their noses up at Tecate.

Tecate and Dos Equis come from the same brewery-- Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma, S.A. de C.V. They produce Bohemia and XX Amber, which are both good beers.

Tecate is just another sh!tty adjunct lager. Indistinguishable from most others, imo. I'd imagine it maintains a solid following because it was one of the only Mexican beers available in cans for a long time. In high school, whenever we went to tube the Salt River, everyone wanted Corona but couldn't bring it because glass wasn't allowed. So it was always Tecate.

Same shit, different label.

I would never seek out a Tecate, but personally like it better than Dos XX, Sol, and the other brands of Chango you get in Mexico.

I'm in this category... at least with Dos Equis and Tecate... I don't care where they are brewed, I can not drink Tecate. Maybe the only common beer I can say that about, though Sol and Natty are pretty close. On the flip of that is Dos Equis green, which I have long held is maybe the best common market, every day, lager in North America... Big Dos Equis guy.

Honestly for Mexican beers:

Dos Equis Green and Negra Modelo are the best imo... Pacifico, Corona, Dos Equis Amber and others are all drinkable but I would never go and buy it myself... Tecate, and maybe Sol are to the point where if offered, I decline.

I agree that Negro Modelo is one of the best Mexican beers, but that has a lot to do with it being a Vienna Lager and not an Adjunct Lager; my other favorite, XX Amber, is also a Vienna Lager.

There's no accounting for taste, so this isn't dispositive of anything, but check out the ratings for those beers on BeerAdvocate.com:

XX Green - 2.73/5 (Poor)
Pacifico - 2.66/5 (Poor)
Tecate - 2.52/5 (Poor)
Sol - 2.44/5 (Awful)
Corona - 2.28/5 (Awful)

Which supports your assertion that XX Green is one of the best in its class (PBR is the only widely available label with a higher score). But that's not saying much.

Adjunct Lager is just a shitty tasteless style of beer.

I like PBR well enough too in fairness... and yeah, it's a poor class of beer, though I really like Dos Equis Green... one of my top beers period honestly. You can definately call that my 'go to' beer.

I tend not to like Beer Advocate though, it seems to me the people that use it just rate the hard to find stuff high and the common market stuff low... it's like a beer site for hipsters...

That's fair (which is partly why I suggested taking it with a grain of salt). Big styles that brewers can turn up to 11 get the highest marks, while more subtle styles (lagers mostly) get unfairly penalized. RateBeer is the same way, but there's unfortunately nothing more objective out there.

Though I still find it useful for discovering new beers in styles I enjoy.

Found this on /r/homebrewing:

You can see why so many brewers dry hop with Citra and Saaz.

3 days off from work because of the snow. I've been getting around, booze wise. First day, I killed off my handle of George Dickel #12. Day 2, I got into my bottle of Jameson 12. Day 3, I'm working on on decent but unremarkable Cab from Argentina, Bodega Norton. It's a little too fruity for me, needs some salty snacks to balance it out.

Too warm for my long sleeve and tie... I know that much.

Cant' wait for the weekend, prob. making a beach trip on Saturday for the wife's B Day also. Right now I am still looking at three more hours of work (Or at least being at work).

From my So Cal, seen ice in a movie once, world view I always wondered how that works... you are in a shanty that is heated... on ice... there is never any melting of the ice?

When an entire lake is frozen 5-6" deep in freezing temperatures, the warm air inside a shanty is laughably negligible to the integrity of the ice.

I hope that explanation comes across without Northern condescension.
