It does speak to the injury risk factor that their QB1 did his ACL at the end of the regular season in November, right? Not only was Jordan Travis basically finished, but it was the season ending injury that ultimately made a group of people decide that their unbeaten season still would not provide the best matchup for the general public to see. I can't imagine a guy like Verse who is projected to go in the first round of the NFL Draft is looking at playing UGA on one hand, seeing his QB1 teammate hobbling on crutches on the other and thinking playing in that game was a good idea. Even if FSU wins beats UGA, what comes of that? Some nice op eds and pats on the back? Nice story for the grandkids?
At least with 12 teams next year, this won't be an issue. An unbeaten ACC Champion is going to be one of the 12. I'd assume anyway.
I know UGA kicked FSU's ass. Did they quit? Hard to say. I suspect some of those guys did at a certain point that night. You get told 13-0 isn't good enough, a third of your team decides to sit this one out, you show up against the Almighty Pissed off SEC Team that had a point to prove....recipe for disaster. Harsh take calling all those guys quitters, but whatever. We're looking at unprecedented situations now considering in 1997 there were 20 bowl games and now there are over 40 with NIL, The Portal and player leverage we've never really seen up until now.
I guess if you're sore about ND losing to BC in 1993 you could really care less.
