Paid! Can't believe we only scored 1 goal against Nigeria.

We did have another goal in the first half called off. On replay it looked like the officials got the call wrong. Water under the bridge though.

Johnston also saved us a goal when she got her foot on the ball deflecting it wide of the net. IMHO it was the best play of the game.

This team is not good. The coaching style doesn't work. I'm very disappointed because the talent is there and tactics are just terrible. Jill Ellis was an atrocious hire in 2014 and should be fired as soon as possible.

To elaborate for those that don't know, the US fired Tom Sermanni in 2014 who was 18-2 in his short stint with the team. He was playing a possession style and tasked with incorporating younger players... and it was all heading in a good direction. Some older, prominent players on the team basically threw a fit and got him canned.

Now the USWNT plays an overly aggressive, terrible, uncreative offense that pushes way too hard forward with no ball possession. This leaves the team open to counter attacks and has the back line generally in terrible organization. It is very common to see a give away end up in a 2-on-2 or 3-on-3 break. And we end up conceding way too many corner kicks.

The worst part though is that not only does the overly aggressive style leave the US open to counters but it's also not leading to goals. The US is averaging 1 goal a game in its last four. In the 8 matches leading up to Sermanni's dismissal, they were averaging 4+ a game.

Dead on. It is so frustrating to watch this group play. There is a ton of talent on that team and it is completely wasted. Against Nigeria it seemed, for a short time period, they were heading in the right direction. They were controlling play and the long balls were non-existent. As soon as they subbed Alex, the midfield disappeared again. The long ball form the defense to Abby over and over again.

On the plus side, it has provided a lot of teaching moments from me to my daughter.

If they win the next two the Germany game will be ugly...
