C.J. Miller, S, decommits. Miller committed in June, and is rated a three star, ranked as 76th at his position by 247. USC recently added Bubba Bolden, #8 S, and is pursuing four-star Isaiah Pola-Mao, #14 S, who recently put USC in his Top 3.

USC now has 17 commits and can take 23. Two blueshirts from last year count towards this class. USC will finish with less than 85 total.

Miller also has offers from Auburn, Memphis, Minnesota, Western Kentucky and UCF. He is from Powder Srings, Ga.

Don't forget SC can pick up the phone and flip basically any juco kid on the westcoast. If they are under 85 it's because they have another plan.

Let me guess at their thinking.

Last year the plan was to give out five scholarships to walkons, which put them at eighty-three. (Only one of whom are left on the roster and is a Senior.) At this point, I have their scholarship count at 60 total. That total includes two blueshirts, who enrolled last year and the remaining walkon to scholarship. (Usually USC has continued to honor those walkon scholarships.)

A '17 Class of twenty-five with the current roster of sixty scholarship players, puts them at eighty-five. Yet USC can only take twenty-three for '17, because the two blueshirts are counted towards '17. The two BSs are in my total of sixty. Twenty-three additional players brings them a total of eighty-three. They have those two scholarships for 2018, more if they have more attrition.

For the coming year, USC can fill out their roster with graduate transfers or other walkon scholarships.

Calculating numbers for the Class of '18
Next year's Seniors number twelve players for the Class of '18 plus whatever scholarships they have falling short of eighty-five. Further attrition, saving a couple of scholarships from this year, some early entrants or attrition next year, once again USC may approach twenty-five for the Class of '18.

The Jucos from the Class of '15, when they came off sanctions, graduated this year and one Juco is left on the roster - from last year's class.

Juwan Burgess, Ath, ranked 24th Ath (247) decommits from USC, commits to IU, and is noted to have an OV to Florida next weekend. Burgess committed to USC in August.

Juwan Burgess De-Commits From 2017 USC Football Recruiting Class

As with many de-commitments that happen in January, Burgess backing off his pledge could be a sign that USC has bigger fish on the line for the 2017 recruiting class.

USC recently added a pair of commitments in three-star cornerback Je’Quari Godfrey and three-star offensive tackle Jalen McKenzie.

The Trojans now have 16 commits for the class, including four early enrollees, with at least seven spots to left to fill. Should McKenzie blueshirt as expected, USC would have eight scholarships to work with.

Jalen McKenzie, OL is expected to blueshirt. Including McKenzie, USC has sixteen commits.

USC has a VERY hard time getting a lot of JUCO's in. They've been after several in recent years, but those kids' grades/scores were so bad not even USC could get them in. Happens quite a lot.

This just goes to show how important winning is and obviously USC will always get theirs but they were a mess to start the season and really had no major commitments and now they are about to finish as hot as anyone in the country. Just landed Pili and the #1 DT according to 247sports in Marlon Tuipulotu, and have an outside chance at rivals #1 DT Aubrey Solomon. Could realistically land Greg Johnson, Joseph Lewis, Leinoir, Isiah Pola-Moa, Jay Tufele, Myron Amosa and Austin Jackson. Two/three months ago, forgot about Josh Falo as well

Greg Johnson- Zona verbal
Solomon- Bama/ Georgia and was Michigan verbal
Joseph Lewis- Nebraska
Leionir- Oregon
Pola Moa- Washington
Tufele- OSU
Jackson- ASU
Josh Falo- Oregon or CU

I truly believe this next recruiting cycle will either set end up nicely moving forward or honestly set the program back at least 3-5 years. It needs to be top heavy with some five star prospects and high four stars. We also need to win at least 10-11 games for that to happen. It's off to a nice start but I think that's why you saw BK bring in some heavy recruiters because next season is make it or break it for BK and if it's not it will certainly really hurt the next coach in terms of depth at certain areas on the field. We need a 2013 class next year or land a Dline class like we did with Tuitt, Lynch and Williams. I know I'm dreaming a little but BK has shown he can do it, we need to get after it and have some things bounce our way. If Clay Helton can do it BK needs to prove he can do it.

GREAT post! I'm totally in "what's done is done" mode and as you said above:

1. Win in 2017
2. Awesome 2018 Recruiting Class

BK getting out to see the 2018 guys is great (NJ twins and PJ). I think once Stepp is at ND he'll take over recruiting responsibilities full time and Elston can just focus on the DLine.

Pola-Mao and Bubba Bolden supposedly hate each other... so hopefully this pushed Bolden to ASU.

Either that or hopefully they both go to USC and scrap constantly in the locker room and become a cancer to the team.

USC 2017 Class - Final analysis

USC 2017 Class - Final analysis

All the dominos fell for USC yesterday, as they filled up and then some. As I posted in the Signing Day thread, USC could take twenty-three signees due to two blueshirts counting against this year's class. They got papers/commitments from twenty-five.

The two that were left out of the official announcement of the 2017 class are:

Jalen McKenzie, OG, who signed without knowing whether he had a scholarship for this year or was to be blue/gray-shirted. By signing, of course, he was locked in without a clear status. It was announced McKenzie accepted a blueshirt. A blueshirt player cannot be "recruited" which means no official visit nor an official home visit by the head coach. A blueshirt recruit can then try out for the team in the fall and be granted a scholarship if one is available. McKenzie had an Official Visit scheduled for Jan 13th, which was changed to an Unofficial visit prior. McKenzie had offers from five PAC 12 schools, Miami and Maryland.

USC in 2016 signed twenty recruits since they had five blueshirts from the prior class. They have used this with transfers, special teams players and in-state recruits who can visit multiple times unofficially. McKenzie is from Concord and Lang is from Pasadena.

Blueshirting is an effective way of adding players only if you expect to fall below eighty-five. With their sanctions and despite full classes, USC easily expects to be below eighty-five. So McKenzie will undoubtedly have a scholarship in the fall.

Terrance Lang, a SDE, is the other player who committed but did not sign. He had an Official Visit, so he cannot blueshirt, and is rumored to have accepted a grayshirt, and would enroll in January. He will be counted against next year's class also. Lang had scholarship offers from seven PAC 12 schools as well as Tennessee and Ole Miss.

The numbers, in the end, catch up to the impact of the sanctions, which happens next year. USC has eleven graduating Seniors in '18 and now two of those scholarships will be taken by McKenzie and Lang.

Wow... so that's what that was about!

But riddle me this Batman: How does one transfer from Oaks Christian in Westlake Village to Poly High in Long Beach 60 miles(?) away. And that's 60 miles on the other side of LA which equals 2-3-4 hours depending on the time of day.

Where's Paul Harvey when you need... "The rest of the story"

*** So reading into it further, his family lives the other way - 30 miles west in Ventura. How does one transfer to a public school 90 miles away from their home and it not be sports related? And why go to Poly if you are gonna go that far? Why not go to a Trinity League school? Oscar McBride would KILL to have Coral at Servite to go against Daniels, Mitchell, Hilinski & Costello #2,

Must have got his ass whooped in front of a bunch of classmates. Hard pill to swallow for a "stud" QB yet so appropriate for one committed to USC.

USC Football Recruiting: Kicker Chase McGrath Commits For 2017

With only redshirt Freshman Michael Brown to fill kicking duties for this fall, USC added Chase McGrath, Mater Dei, to their 2017 class. They took the maximum class limit, so McGrath will probably walkon this fall. Matt Boermeester is off the roster while under investigation for a code of conduct issue. He could be unavailable for the Trojans in 2017.

O/NSO: Ranking the 2017 road trips edition (WeAreSC)

Road Trip Ranking: 1- Notre Dame

The Obvious: In the third road game of the season and the eighth game overall, the Trojans travel back to the Midwest for the nation’s most treasured intersectional rivalry – Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana on Oct 21.

The Not So Obvious: This is the mother of all road games – The Notre Dame Weekender. Most Trojans stay in Chicago and try to arrive on Thursday in time for Friday’s noontime pep rally at the Navy Pier on Lake Michigan. Yes, Dr. Bartner, the Trojans Marching Band, The Song Girls, and massive turnout of Trojans fans will all be there. Literally upwards of 10,000 Trojans make the trip, and you can see many of them either at the rally or walking the famous Miracle Mile in downtown Chicago. The restaurants – sports hangouts like Harry Carey’s or Ditka’s – are great. Some Trojans fans prefer to stay just a night in Chicago and spend Friday and Saturday night in South Bend or in the general vicinity. The Notre Dame Friday night pep rally in anticipation of the hated Trojans is a gas. FYI, the drive from Chicago to South Bend is about an hour and a half, and it’s really a relaxing ride once you leave the outskirts of the Windy City. BTW, Chicago is on Central Time, which means it’s an hour behind South Bend time.

Airport access to Notre Dame Stadium: If you’re driving from O’Hare Airport in the north side of Chicago, it will take two hours if the traffic is smooth (don’t count on it). It’s the O/NSO view that if you can fly into Midway Airport in the south side of Chicago, it eliminates a lot of traffic, especially if you’re staying in the general South Bend area.

Stadium: Notre Dame Stadium
Capacity: 84,000
Seating Chart: http://www.seats3d.com/ncaa/university_notre_dame/football/#/level_1/
Note: Click on seating section to see specific locations.

Ticket info: Tickets :: UND.COM :: The Official Site of Notre Dame Athletics

Projected South Bend Weather Forecast: The South Bend weather in October is normally a high of 62 and a low of 43.

Comment: Simply put, this is the best of the best of roads trips. It’s everything you could want, including staying in Chicago, which is a great city for fun. If you can get a ticket to the game, you have to go!

The Obvious: And finally, if you haven’t gone to a USC Trojans away game or haven’t gone to a specific road game, now is the time to do your reservations.

The Not So Obvious: Keep in mind that if the Trojans win and win and are ranked near or at the top, away game tickets will be scarce as will hotels and plane flights. You can take that to the bank. Don’t be caught looking from the outside in.
