Nah, Prentice has already been factored out of the equation for months. It's Williams + ESB + a safety.

I think front page is up to date, I edited it on Wednesday I believe.

Thanks, although I don't quite understand. Why wouldn't you take two with 4 spots remaining and such little depth at safety?

That fourth spot also has Hegarty, Carlisle, and Grace competing for it...

I think your safety chart in Fall 2015 looks like this. Throw in Brent and and another Freshman, and I think you are fine (not great) for now. We need a 5-star next year, though.

FS:
- Redfield
- Devin Butler
- Mykelti Williams

SS:
- Elijah Shumate, Sr. '15
- Dru Tranquil, So. '17
- Farley
- Feritta

The fourth spot is really only for a true 5:s: difference maker, otherwise they'll fill it with a quality 5th year guy. So, assuming we're not getting a guy like Iman Marshall (hint: we're not) then we're only trying to take 3 guys right now. 1 safety, 1 RB, and then ESB because we like him.

To me, taking ESB is a no-brainer. I have no doubt he'll be a weapon.

I think either ESB or Waller is really overrated, maybe both, or their HS coach really sucks or something. I like ESB's ceiling a lot but it's just so weird to look at his/Waller's on field production this year and not get a little wary.

So:

- Meadors is going to UCLA.
- Buncom is going to Stanford.
- Reid is likely going to LSU and if not, Stanford.
- Arrington Farrar has had Booker in twice, but still not decided if he's visiting ND.

That's not looking good. Hopefully something magical happens with Reid.

Almost makes Farley a must bring back with his experience and ability to play some safety if the team needed it. Hopefully Butler can begin to develop and we recruit lights out at the position next year. Our defense needs to play better this year to entice the quality of player we want to see coming in year after year....much better.

Yeah totally, he can provide depth at either safety spot. I think he's one of our most important 5th years.

I have to think we get a safety of some sort. There has to be a guy that looks at the depth chart and says "YUP!"... right?

Has Butler been officially switched to safety, or are we all just hoping it happens?

At CB we will have Cole Luke and Russel as starters with watkins and butler and colemon baking up. Have Crawford as a nickleback, at safety you have farley, Redfield, Shumate, tranquil, start Ashton White here as a backup with nicco and Williams hopefully we get one more guy plus maybe start bilal off here, we have depth at LB.

You mean Michigan is going to land Iman?

Farley has been key every year. We may wish we had a better player, but he's often proved to be needed. I'd say he is back if he wants to be. Hat tip to Matthias.

I'd say we're assuming, based on obvious need, the return of Russell, the emergence of Watkins, and the incoming freshman.

- I'd rather have Crawford and Coleman compete for the 3rd CB spot with Watkins. That 5 quality CBs. White and Butler can move back if injuries dictate.

- You train Tranquil, Butler, Brent, M. Williams, and hopefully Reid as full time safties. See who emerges.

- Then you let all the back-ups compete with Farley, Fertitta, and White at Nickel.

Hope not. This is (allegedly) what got Justin Ferguson and Devonte Neal the boot didn't it?

Michael Bertsch tweet courtesy of Ironman

Working on @NDFootball bios & came across this nugget. @MatthiasFarley 1 of only 4 players in FBS last year with at least 4 INTs & 3.5 sacks

Never been a huge Farley fan (especially in 2013), but he's a must-bring-back regardless, isn't he?

I don't see a situation where we don't land another safety. Buncom going to Stanford, along with Edwards, you'd think Reid would jump at the opportunity at early playing time and stringent academics, not to mention a better opportunity at the playoffs.

I like the idea of moving Brent over to safety, as well as Butler.

Upshot? I'm thinking a UCLA/OSU/UM implosion re: recruiting and ND taking a full class. That's an upshot IMO.

I had crossed him off the list, but this is quite interesting:

Bo Wallace and Jerry Tillery about Hunter Dale, who is a safety. Teammate of Bo Wallace.

Could be the contingency plan? Dude's got some offers.

Sorry to bump this thread.

Is it official that Williams, ESB, and the Saftey recruits are all waiting until NSD to announce?

ESB set announcement plans late last night. 247 has a VIP link up for that.

Anything more on Dale?
By the wording "hope he gets", seems like it's all about the school offering/accepting.

Slightly different piece of the recruiting 2015 story, but worth mentioning I think to say thanks for another good staff effort. ND is rated 7,8,9,10 in the four ratings services. When you look at the landscape, only three programs have any separation and then there are about 8 or 9 powers [inc. us] who are about a "wash". I'm speaking of average rating quality per recruit here. The three who've separated are Alabama, FSU, and USC.

We of course want classes like these three get, but given our only recent re-emergence as a credible power, Kelly and the boys have done a fine job.

Yeah, they've done a solid job this year. Hopefully they can continue to improve their recruiting strategy heading forward and I think we can expect even better classes.

I would argue otherwise. Recruiting rankings are fine and dandy, but it's mostly about filling needs with quality players.

This class has failed to fill S with quality players, or even warm bodies. Recruiting has been very good otherwise, but I don't think that makes up for apparent failures at recruiting safeties.

Mykelti and Farrar are both quality players.
