wowey wow wow....that closing seven would be fantastic. I have absolutely no objections to those players. I'd be happy with a packaged deal with Agholor and Miles if those are the other recruits we get. Let's make it happen.

1. Kiel
2. Agholor
3. Pool
4. Odenigbo
5. Diamond
6. Banner
7. Manning
8. B Marshall

I don't think we land Shaq or Keith Marshall. I think we move Pool to safety and Manning comes in at DB.

I also think Armstead ends up at Bama or back with the Trojans.

Darboh is a gator.

Peat is Nebraska bound.

K Marshall is UGA with or without Richt.

Shaq stays with Cal or Oregon pulls another shocker.

Gunner Kiel
Byron Marshall
Ifeadi Odenigbo
Nelson Agholor
Brian Poole
Jordan Diamond
Arik Armstead

7? I suppose Armstead is good enough that Kelly might consider denying a 5Y to one of our four locks, but that still seems highly unlikely to me. Which one do you release? Cwynar is likely the most dispensable of the four, but maybe Armstead takes KLM's spot as a DE? But KLM is probably the least expendable of the four.

1. Gunner Kiel
2. Byron Marshall
3. Ofeadi Odenigbo
4. Nelson Agholor
5. Brian Poole
6. Arik Armstead
7. Zach Banner
8.Schyer Miles

As mentioned earlier by Lax, if Miles is a preferred walk-on, I could see it.

1. Kiel
2. Agholor
3. Pool
4. Odenigbo
5. Diamond
6. Banner
7. Manning
8. B Marshall

8? Without Armstead and no preferred walk-on? So which two of Cave, Cwynar, KLM, and Slaughter are we turning away?

I don't consider Cwynar a lock after how this year has gone for him. I think that he probably comes back but is not a lock. The other three in my opinion are as close to a sure thing as you can get, if they want to come back (yes you can make an arguement where they wouldn't take KLM back but that seems to be extremely unlikely).

Life without Cwynar in 2012 could be frightening. NT depth is currently (1) Cwynar/ Nix, (3) Hafis Williams, and (4) Springmann. Hafis and Brandon Newman aren't getting 5Ys. If we release Cwynar, we're down to (1) Nix, (2) Springmann, and (3) Stockton.

Stockton has been a complete bust thus far, so we can't expect any production from him going forward; we'd be looking at just (1) Nix and (2) Springmann. If Nix gets hurt in that scenario, our run defense takes a huge step backward.

I agree that Cwynar is the most expendable of the four locks, but he definitely belongs on that list. It would take an extraordinary set of circumstances for him not to get a 5Y.

I think Houshell might play some at NT to provide depth. I still think Cwynar probably gets a fifth year but I don't think he is a lock.

^^^True, but we do have Sheldon Day coming in this class to take over 3rd on the depth chart.

^^^True, but we do have Sheldon Day coming in this class to take over 3rd on the depth chart.

Day claimed he was recruited as a 5/3-tech, which is a SDE in Diaco's system.

After Schutt-gate, it appears we really aren't taking a NT in this class. Then again, nobody saw the 6'6'' Springmann moving to NT, and our assumptions about the importance of a NT recruit's physical profile are continually proven wrong.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised to see any of our DL (except Lynch) getting work at NT.

Day doesn't move like any of our other ends. He moves like a guy who probably belongs at nose tackle. Just needs to bulk up a bit.

if I had to pick 8

I think we could get 6 realistically

What do you mean?

Our DEs are pretty much guys who could line up at end in a 4-3 and not miss a beat. Day's not in that mold. He's short and slow(relatively speaking). I'm sure he'll be in better shape once we get him into conditioning, but I think he's more suited to line up as close to the ball as possible.

Whiskey, I mentioned 7 spots thinking Cwynar would be the last one out as you mentioned. I believe Tuitt will play inside with Lou next year.

Couldn't Kona play inside? He certainly appears to have the size and strength. Not sure about his techniques though. He's a big boy.

Day's best feature is his ability to explode off the ball, and he's noted most for his interior pass rush. At 6'2'' ~286 lbs, his profile is closer to that of a NT than a DE in Diaco's system, but some have expressed concern that he may already be pretty well filled-out.

On the other hand, Cwynar has proved that our DTs don't have to be 300+ lb behemoths to succeed at NT.

I am going to say that we take 6.

1. B. Marshall
2. Brian Poole
3. Gunner Kiel
4. Odinegbo
5. Agholor
6. Banner

so 1 more each of RB, OL, DB, OLB, WR that most of us think we will take plus Kiel because you don't turn down a top 2 QB.

Day is ridiculously explosive for his size. He could play DE in a 4-3.

With better conditioning I think we will find that he loses some unhealthy weight and gains some better healthy weight and stays right at about 290 which isn't absurd by any stretch of the imagination for a DE in a 3-4. That being said, he could also certainly play NT. The kid is good.
