This is going to drag out for a long time. There's a good chance he becomes president before there is a verdict. If found guilty, can they remove him at that time or do they have to wait until he is no longer president?

If found guilty, I'll be surprised if he spends a day in jail.
There's pretty much no chance he beats Biden. He has nowhere near the support he had in 2020 and is even more toxic with Independents.

Believe it or not, a poll just released has them neck and neck. Maybe they'll both expire before the next election, can't believe we're doing a rematch. Trump is actually getting more support from his base than Biden, so I would guess Biden does have more Independents. I'm sure Biden will get more party support after the primary too. I would expect Biden pulls away given the Independent vote.

Strategically how dumb are the dems to run Biden again? If the opponent is Trump you’re basically guaranteed a win with a competent <60 year old. Why not take that opportunity and then have an incumbent in 2028?

The same can probably be said for the Republicans. Field a less toxic candidate and it's probably a win. Some of Trump's base may not vote for someone else, but a new candidate would pull in more Independents. The problem is you have to talk Biden and Trump into stepping down from the race. Biden could probably be convinced, I'm not sure Trump can.

At this point in 2011 Romney was up 2 on Obama. At this point in 83 Mondale was up on Reagan. Dole also had a commanding lead on Clinton in 95.

I think Biden is a guarantee against Trump. Trump's support has weakened since 2020 and polls show that the majority of people who don't like either candidate will still vote for Biden if the choice is between both of them.

We saw this in 2022 when the GOP underperformed. 2022 wasn't an endorsement of Biden or the Democratic Party. It was a referendum on Trump and Trumpy GOP Candidates. The majority of the country doesn't like Biden and they think he's doing a bad job. The problem is the GOP thinks that because of that, they can run anyone and still win. The voters held their noses to vote for the Democratic candidates in key races. They will do the same thing if Trump is the Republican nominee.

Okay? None of those guys ever won a Presidency either, nor did they have a base as attached to them as candidates. Like I said, I expect Biden will take the lead once primaries are over and the base rallies around him because he'll have the Independents.

I don't think that's it. I think they know they can't force Trump out of the race and if they try his base is still going to vote for him. They have a zero % chance of winning the race if that happens vs 40/60 or 35/65 odds if they just support him and let him try to be Biden one more time.

Me: Well, it's August and I haven't been indicted yet. I'd say that's a good summer.

Wife: You grew up in Chicago, you live in Illinois and it's still only August. Give it time, there, Honest Abe.

If found guilty on this latest, he should die in jail.
In breaking news, Democrats are furious that Donald Trump died in prison without serving his full 50 years. They've requested that Trump be kept in his coffin in his cell to serve the remaining 38 years of his sentence. 84 year old Senator Chuck Schumer was quoted as saying "that F'ing prick isn't going to weasel out of this. I'm starting Senatorial proceedings first thing tomorrow."

It’s not democrats, it’s law abiding, patriotic citizens of all persuasions that are offended by a convicted sex offender with something like 20 other women claiming similar behavior. Who in continually perpetuating a lie has sought to undermine our system of government, by duping the less discerning of us into armed insurrection. And while a thousand of those folks went to jail he is out asking the rudderless to send him back to DC so he can show us what an American Autocrat can do.
The breaking news bit, the lack of seriousness is kinda sad.

Flagpoles and selfie sticks now qualify as "armed insurrection."
Lord save us, those Boomers nearly usurped the US government, the country with the most powerful military, with their aluminum poles!

If I try to rob a bank with a cap gun, what will happen to me? What should happen to me? People need to stop rationalizing criminality. It leads you to dark places

People need to stop and assess situations before assuming intent. If a basically unarmed crowd is protesting, and they leave when the National Guard tells them to leave without a fight...maybe they weren't trying to take over the government? If their intent was to steal the election they didn't put up much of a fight. You'd think they'd be better organized and probably better armed, right? It's almost like they had no evil intentions...

You might want to go back and read more of my posts. If you can't laugh at the political BS that has consumed D.C. I don't know what to tell you. It doesn't mean I don't have concern for what's going on, but you have people like Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon making a living off this stuff. Is that sad?

I have read most posts in the threads that interest me. I have probably read most of yours. I said what I said. If the cap fits wear it. If not, no biggie right?
Just want to point out tho, that there is a HUGE difference between politics as usual in DC, (which totally sucks.) and a criminal conspiracy in the battleground states, calls to hang the vice president and attempting to overthrow the normal functions of the government. One of these things is not like the other. I think that attempt at some moral equivalence is what upsets the people not living at one extreme or the other.

You lost me with, “Without a fight”, sorry. Go back look at the videos, listen to the people who have admitted what they did that day (sitting in jail right now) and assign that behavior at that exact moment in time, at the frickin capital, to anyone and see where they wind up…Exactly where they belong. I’m sorry, I really am, try again.

This post deserves two replies…I sincerely hope that what you say is EXACTLY what all these juries do. Stop. Assess the situation. Look at all of what was going on during that time then decide what the intent was. I mean seriously what were these crowds protesting…? Reality? I guess that’s a defense. If it were me I wouldn’t love it. Seems like the only election shenanigans were done by the boy crying wolf.

Not the cops though. When the cops told them to leave, there was a fight.

That's because Pelosi didn't give the Chief additional support even though they knew ahead of time the police woud need it.

In a summary about said interview, Kassam wrote that “Sund laments the behaviors of then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as well as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, who he says had intelligence to suggest problems on Capitol Hill, which they failed to communicate with Sund and his cops on the ground.”

Describing himself as “a little pissed off,” about the situation because of criticism that came his way, Sund told Carlson that “If I was allowed to do my job as the chief, we wouldn’t be here. This didn’t have to happen.”

It's too bad the president couldn't (wouldn't) do anything about it for hours and hours. Other than whipping them into an even bigger frenzy.
