I think Speaker Mike Johnson, in addressing the press yesterday,
finally gave us a clue what the Trump 2028 plan and strategy is:
Johnson said in yesterday's press conference (
https://youtu.be/oNfObpKD3iE?si=yZQFVqqEDMWwKj78):
"I do believe we have
three extraordinary years ahead of us... And the
two years of the Trump Administration are going to be an incredible thing."
You see the 22nd Amendment (Section 1) states:
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this Article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this Article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this Article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.
There is nothing stopping Trump from being elected as Vice President along with JD Vance as President, and then Vance stepping down as President and handing it over to Trump on 1/21/2029.
1) Trump officially will
not have been
elected to the office of the President more than twice and...
2) As long as he steps down before the end of 2030 (a term that is less than two years) after obtaining Presidency from Vance on 1/21/2029, he will
not have
held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President, thus he will be allowed to be elected to the office of Presidency more than once (it will have been twice as of 1/21/2029) because by dropping out in less than two years, that is not a qualifying term for the 22nd Amendment restrictions on additional Presidential terms.
Trump is also a realist - He's lucky if he can make it to the end of the current term at which point he'll be 82, let alone until the end of 2030, during which he'll turn 84 in June that year, so this works for him, and allows a few more years if they can pull this off and he's still around; and it allows the easy transition to Vance whenever it's required.
But if he can endure (and boy, does this guy seem to endure, like a bad penny!) until the end of 2030, we have a long way to go with The Don as President
(Of course, unless we actually can have free and fair elections in 2026 and 2028 and prevent these Constitutional shenanigans!)
I think Johnson didn't even slip up, they want this out there - Remember, this is the party that put Project 2025 out there in plain sight.
