My brother got arrested in the Stadium vs UM back in '08. The weird thing was when I asked his friend where he was he just said he didn't know? He said an usher asked him to step out. And then he never came back. You would think when somebody is so obnoxious that they need to be arrested it would be obvious.

He blew over .08 and he didn't get out of St. Joes County till about 1am. Which I find funny because .08 is the limit to legally drive not cheer for a football game. Also it's ridiculous that they wouldn't just throw you out of the game.

I've been to plenty of games where I have older people in their 70's sitting behind me and I just feel bad for wanting to stand or jump up when a big play happens. Which is just sad.

Just printed 11 of them for me and the ten family members attending with me Saturday.

I also printed some out and if anyone has a problem with it, I will give them one. This issue truly enrages me, I know it shouldn't, but it does haha

been to many a game since the ealry 1980's....the solution to all this people is wining and winning in big games at the stadium...and i hate to say it but there just havent been that many in the 2000's and the 1990s...when we have a championship caliber team on that field consistently i can tell you this whole issue is MOOT. i was at the FSU game in 93, both Miami games late 80s, the weis usc game, and the place was electric and seemed like the entire stadium stood even the geezers for the entire time...winning not jack swarbrick friday mtgs with ushers is the way to solve this.

Does that mean ushers will stop telling people to sit down and be quiet?

He's the AD. He can't come out and strongly support one side or the other. But yes, he's saying it.

Ushers no longer telling people to stop standing will play a huge role. As much as I love our band, pump up music on key downs is welcomed.

Nice read, thanks Chamellion! GO IRISH!

It will all come down to the old old people who think they're at a movie and not a college sporting event. The day that idea dawns upon them will be the day Notre Dame Stadium gets her "roar" back

The days of the blue hairs is about over. They need to give the tickets to their grandkids, chill at home and flip back in forth from the nd game and Yale rowing.

Dunno, I go to 3-4 games a year at least, I can't agree with this statement though. While I wasn't at the Miami games, I was at the others. Aside from the '05 USC game, I cannot tell you the last time that stadium was loud like that. One game in at least 10 years is BS, we need to be loud each and every week, or at least until we hang a 4+ score advantage on an opponent...and if we lose part of that advantage, it's back to being loud. As far as other loud games, before '05 USC...maybe the 2000 game against #1 Nebraska would be a close competitor, but that was still over 10 years ago.

I completely understand that not having a regular championship caliber team will drive down the crowd noise, but even in years when the team has done well that stadium has been dead in comparison to other venues. Thats unacceptable. The worst part is that there is no encouragement to be loud by the stadium officials or ushers, and many fans will ask you to quiet down or sit down. I've had it happen to me, and it's mind blowing that behavior like that isn't tolerated...at a FOOTBALL GAME!

You have to be the 12th man out there. When the team is down, thats when they need you the most. The defense especially feeds off your noise and energy, and it disrupts opposing offenses. You better believe that a defense will be more fired up when the crowd noise is high than when it's a dull roar. I never wanted to play for a dead crowd, I can't imagine our boys want to either.

I got told to sit down a number of times when we beat Penn St. I couldn't believe that was happening at a football game. People who don't want a loud atmosphere should watch it on tv in their living rooms.

Even ESPN knows our atmosphere is weaker than Tom Brady's knee in 2008.

3. Some new stadium gimmicks. C'mon, something has to be different, no? Maybe not "Crazy Train"-on-every-third-down different, but something. The debate on how to make Notre Dame Stadium a more intimidating place has carried on endlessly, so it would be surprising if Saturday's home opener is the same as every game last year. (Just don't ask Brian Kelly.)

no fan should need "encouragement" to cheer or stand up by stadium officials or ushers...not even sure what that would look like u want some 65 yr old usher holding up a 12th man sign for you instrcuting when to clap or stand?....my point is that cheeering needs to be "organic" and natural to the fan....i saw an LSU game late 90's at night, the first 10 min was a band box until the went down 21-0 int he 1q and you could hear a pin drop in the place...what you and jack are wanting/asking for is an unnatural thing...its like in the new yankee stadium they have so much fabricated, fake noise making PA systems and neon signs (that say "make some noise" etc youve all seen these) makes me nausous...the events on the field should dictate the reactions in the stands, and you are asking for it ot be the other way around...i hear what you and lots of fans are saying on this issue but him, you me cant simply blame the "old geezers" for lack of a home field advantage at ND Stadium...blame the team for not giving us much to cheer about.

No fan should need encouragement to cheer or stand up, but unfortunately some people do need it...quite frankly I don't know why they come if they're not there to cheer. I should correct myself though. It shouldn't be that the ushers and administration at the stadium have to encourage the noise, but they certainly shouldn't be discouraging it. Like it or not, some fans do need encouragement though. I will stipulate that theres a direct connection between on field performance and crowd intensity. When the team has been down, the crowd level has been tamer. On the flip side, years ago when the team was successful, crowd noise and energy level was high. Unfortunately even when the team has had moderate success in recent years, the stadium has not produced much noise. We have to at least do our part and make sure we're making it tough for our opponents. After that it's up to the players and coaches to deliver. Notre Dame stadium is no longer a threat to opposing players, we have to do our part to change that mindset.

Look at it this way...we've been through 3 failing head coaches since Lou, we're on #4 now. The three predecessors all had similar records and performance overall. At some point you have to change something else and believe that it's not just the coaches where the problem lies. Maybe extra crowd reaction inspires the players and leads to greater success? Maybe it does absolutely nothing? The definition of insanity is continuing down the same path and expecting different results. We need to shake this thing up.

At this point the only thing that can fix the noise level in the stadium is for ND to become a consistent BCS contender

Right on! When our defense starts to dominate and we can let GAIII bust a few big plays, the noise level will be plenty loud. Showing me a program with a recent winning program and I'll show you some pumped up fans.

Disagree. You're right, the BIG games are when people cheer and the ONLY time people cheer. That stadium should be rocking every game. ND can't play USC every weekend. People should learn to be loud for every home game. That's what home field advantage is all about. The last home game I went to was last season's annihilation of AF. A complete a$$ kicking. People were literally yawning and LEAVING EARLY! That is not a true fan and that is a huge problem.

The ND culture can be summed up in two categories. Either you're a diehard/yelling/screaming/eat/sleep/breathe ND fan. Or you're one of the old school alums who have money and go to games "Because it's what you've done for the last 30 years" and treat it like a reunion w/ friends instead of a battle on the gridiron. The administration is only encouraging the latter. They have openly admitted to wanting a more family-inviting atmosphere. That's why excise cops come in to arrest you, rather than high-five you, say "GO IRISH" followed by a "but let's tone it down, son." That's why ushers are everywhere throughout the stadium supporting those old folks who want to sit and watch a game rather than staND and cheer. That's why ushers throw people out for being "obnoxious" (News flash: part of cheering is being obnoxious...sorry if your 80 year old grandpa can't see or your 5 year old little boy doesn't have earmuffs). THIS IS FOOTBALL. ND has become a laughing stock. Thank God Coach Kelly and Jack have decided it's time for a change. It's time for US AS FANS to follow suit.

Jump around or shipping up to Boston by dropkick Murphy's clearly belongs to us and should be played at games.

Here are a couple of the reasons why I think adding luxury suite addition to the opposite side of the field is a good thing. The people who are more inclined to appreciate the tranquility of a football game can rent a box rather than sit with the obnoxious Philistines. Another reason and would help to redirect noise back towards the field.

Me and a bunch of my friends spent a lot of money to go to nd vs Michigan in 2006. We got kicked out for being rowdy. No profanity, just yelling and being crazy college football fans seen in the videos linked above. This was the last game I attended. I love nd as much as anybody here , but I can't watch a game with library protocol. If this does change I will be back every year...
