I know there is a silly season thread and all, but thought this was big enough for its own thread

Feel like Tony deserves a shot, but I'm obviously very glad he'll be around for another season.

On a side note, CSU fired all of McElwain's remaining coaching staff 10 minutes after that dud of a performance ended today.

Gotta be an OC/DC before a head coach.

One would think so.

Urban Meyer was WR coach at ND for 5 years before jumping to HC at BGU. He had previously coached TEs, QBs, OLBs, ... And DBs in HS.

Its like he coached the entire offensive..just not at the same time.

My personal preference is to have a coordinator become HC.

One of the most underrated pieces of our program.

Bad ass recruiter, he was the primary recruiter for:

Greg Bryant
Nix
Folston
Coney
Nicco

& a few solid players.

I don't know how he's underrated. Everyone on this board agrees he's one of the best recruiters in the country.

Yeah because most people on here are informed. I mean the other hundred thousand Notre Dame fans. There are more than this board.

Of course he would be targeted, absolutely no shock in that. And no, I don't think he goes.

Any smart coach should want to woo him. I truly believe he believes in what he sells at ND, though, and it seems disingenuous to move to a football-first school in what would appear to be a lateral move. I would understand his desire to take over a program, but this? Maybe I should be more worried but I'm skeptical this would raise Mr. Alford's eyebrows. Harumph.

Shooting from the hip, I think he goes unless he gets some sort of promotion here like co-OC (or a big raise). He's been at ND a long time and clearly wants to move up and not just be a RB coach the rest of his life. But this is a lateral move so...? Just a weird situation. Can't help but feeling there is some half of this we don't know.

This started getting kicked around earlier in the day and I thought it was BS but the fact that the big boys are finally ready to report it means that it's either a leverage move or it's going to happen. If Tony didn't want this out there it wouldn't be out there, IMO.

Sounds like a leverage move to me. Someone wants a promotion and raise and I don't blame him. I really hope that ND opens the purse.
