#1 Should be Tony Alford or Bob Diaco and #2 should be Tony Alford or Bob Diaco. Great to see coach Alford making this list.

He probably won't get the award.

No matter how deserving. I sure hope he gets the big raise and a long career at ND.

Almost guarentee Orgeron gets the award. With all the sanctions looming, to pull off their class is quite impressive.

Tony Alford I pray that God gives you the strength to use all of your wonderful gifts to the very best of your ability tomorrow. Get a good nights rest and wake up supercharged! As you walk into the home of Brian Poole I hope you have a full heart and loaded with confidence. God bless you sir.

Bobo is consistently great as well. Not a great coach, but good recruiter... His head coach however should be nominated for underacheiver of the year every year.

I still can't believe that Cal let Tosh go. We have to treat him like our Tosh, and show him the money soon.

I hope you guys are paying him enough to keep him from leaving for a better offer than ND... At a school like ND, only a HC offer should pull one of the assistants.

Malarkey.

When you have decades in Ohio's PERS, and it's based on your top five earning years....you go to Ohio State 100% of the time to ensure that you and your family are taken care of for forever. As a pure money move, it made total sense. Then when you add in being an Ohioan and a big time OSU fan and friend of Urban....that's as good of a reason as any.

But yeah, 99% of the time.

Trolling Ant?

For someone's who's been here for 6 years you don't know show much knowledge about ND coaching history. Rockne was here 13 seasons, Leahy, Parshegian, and Holtz 11, Layden 7, Devine 6. There haven't been any 25 year career coaches coattails for assistants to ride.

They did groom a lot of future head coaches for other schools. When Holtz was here, coaches came to ND to get their "ticket punched", to fill out there resume while grooming for a head coach job ala Barry Alverez.

Then there are the guys that were here 5 or less.

Lots of assistants came and went. A few even rose to head coach here but mostly when the Adminstration was trying to de-empthasize the football program after a legendary coach left (Rockne, Leahy, Holtz). Some newly minted ND Presidents couldn't grasp that ND isn't a place for on the job training as a head coach.

Some assistants rose in the profession like Meyer and Charlie Strong (both Holtz hires). Alabama AD Mal Moore was Assistant Head Coach under Faust. Moose Krause was an All-American who became a head football coach before returning to ND to become a football assistant and later Head Basketball Coach. Krause was 3-0 as Acting Head Football Coach during Leahy's illnesses. He also was ND's AD for 32 years. Brian Boulac played at ND was an assistant football coach for 13 years, moved to the AD's Office, was the first head coach of the women's softball team, and rose to Assistant AD.

There are others but largely ND hasn't been a place assistants stay at decades. Perhaps it's because turnover's been higher the past 16 years at any coaching level in this football program. Perhaps it's because unlike Alabama, FSU, PSU, OSU, etc it's because they don't get state funded pensions.

ND does pay better salaries for assistants than they used but it's still a private school. Alford's only entering his 4th season here. One more than Kelly. Alford will do what's in the best interest of his career and family.

Interesting answer to what has changed since NSD (with an implication that things are better this year?) ... he says he knows, but isn't "going to put those out there." When I first read it my first thought is that he has different assistant coaches this year that are on the "same page." But on second read don't know.
