It's not really a lateral move career wise, not even close.

Lol Bama OCs typically have former HC experience. It's hardly apples to apples. If you think Rees is getting a blue blood HC offer after this you're out of your mind. Only thing that will change is his pool of mid-level HC opportunities.

Not quite. 3rd year, but his 1st class were all underclassmen Sophomores this year, and they made up a large portion of the contributors on that offense besides Mayer and to a lesser extent Tyree. Alt, Fisher, Buchner, Estime, Colzie, Thomas, Diggs, and some flashes from Evans when Mayer wasn't the focus.

I was only discussing how Rees f-ed up last season. And with Freeman being a new HC, young and from the defensive side of the ball, it was really Rees to make sure we had a quality QB room which we didn't have -

Next you buy into the notion that ND should be concerned about bringing in a transfer might have a 4 Star QB Transferring?? That is the insecure mindset that created last season. They learned their lesson and hell be damned this year they were going to get a QB Transfer and got a good one in Hartmann....as a result Pyne left. So fucking what? ND should never think like a nervous squirrel but from a mindset of abundance. No QB should assume they will be starter. ND should always have a set of balls when it comes to recruiting and not a nervous nelly mindset. This is ND.

I don't know what to tell you. If a cake takes 30 minutes to bake do you pull it out at 20 minutes and call it done? Over half our offense was comprised of underclassmen this year because BK and Long dropped the ball in recruiting, especially in the 2020 class. Underclassmen are going to make mistakes, we saw it with Merriweather early on. A missed assignment led to Pyne taking a nasty sack and stalling a drive.

A healthy team is fielding mostly upperclassmen each year because there weren't a bunch of holes in previous recruiting cycles. Tommy's first year as OC his WR starters consisted of McKinley who was a glorified TE, Benny Sko who was a Northwestern transfer, and Avery Davis a converted QB. Lots of heart there, but not exactly a bevy of real 4-5 star talent. They still made the playoffs that year and managed to beat a pretty good Clemson team.
