I think he might be able to get a 6th year. But I doubt he'll go that route since he'll already have his MBA and wouldn't go to the NBA anyway.

ND Press Release

ND Press Release

Tim Abromaitis To Miss Remainder Of Season With Torn Right ACL - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

Nov. 25, 2011

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Notre Dame men's basketball co-captain Tim Abromaitis (Unionville, Conn.) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee at a morning team practice on Friday, November 25 and will miss the remainder of the 2011-12 campaign.

Abromaitis had played in two games and was averaging 14.0 points and 7.0 rebounds. He had missed Notre Dame first four games due to misunderstanding of a technicality in an NCAA rule governing seasons of competition that dated back to the 2008-09 campaign when he played in the first two exhibition of his sophomore campaign and then sat out the remainder of that season.

In his first return back to the Irish lineup in Notre Dame's 87-58 loss to Missouri in the semifinals of the CBE Classic in Kansas City, Mo., the fifth-year senior scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

"Tim Abromaitis is one of the great stories in college athletics and represents everything that is good about college basketball," Irish head coach Mike Brey says. "We are all disappointed for Tim because of all that he has meant to our program. He has been such a big part of our success over the past three seasons. Tim is such a special young man and an unbelievable representative of Notre Dame both on and off the basketball court."

He is expected to undergo surgery in the next two weeks.

N.B. There is a missing paragraph in this post. The next to last paragraph in the Press Release triggers an Internal System Error (see below) when I include it in this post. I've tried entering it by cut and paste from the posted ND release, I've manually entered the pargraph, I've saved email the article to myself. Something in it triggers a repeated error message. After 10 minutes of trying, I give up. The missing paragraph notes he has a already gotten two degree from ND.

Did this happen against Georgia or in practice? Either way, I hope he makes a full recovery. No doubt, he'll have a great future - the kid's a genius.

I'm pretty sure ND doesn't have a business PhD program. MBA is the highest you can go at Mendoza.

Not even thinking about what this means for the team. What an awful break for this kid. He has done everything right at ND. Kid is a stud in the classroom and on the court and you hear nothing but positive things about him. Just such a shame for him.

As some others have mentioned, he has put off his life to play basketball. The kid could be making 6 figures somewhere

I wonder if he comes back for a 6th year. Next years team could be very good if he does.

Andy Katz reporting.

Seasons over.

We're done for.

Even if we did have him the whole year we wont be making any noise this year. We will be lucky to finish in the top 10 in Big East this year.

Feel bad for the guy though. Without him, we can pretty much expect to get thumped when we play the big boys.

After beating Syracuse, Abro said experiencing that made up his mind he wants to return.

I guess he's been told that it's probably unlikely to get the medical hardship since he technically shouldn't have been eligible to play this year because of the mix up his sophomore year when he redshirted and played in the exhibition games. The NCAA suspended him for the first 4 games this year for the mix up.

I hope Abro can come back next year and go out in style. Hopefully the NCAA will grant him the hardship, but I'm not counting on it.

Not a surprise at all.

Oh well, the Irish will be damn good without him regardless.

Sucks he had to go out this way though.
