So, I really liked Rounders, but the thing that always took me out of the movie was that Matt’s friend was named, knish. Isn’t that some kind of Jewish pasty? So his friend was named “Jewish pastry”? I hate that.
JT was great in that role

Breaking news: It's being reported that police have made an arrest in the University of Idaho murders that happened last month. Several sources are reporting that a mid-20's male who's a college student, but not at the U. of Idaho, has been arrested in Scranton, PA for the murders. Supposedly they'll be making an announcement and give more info later this afternoon at a 1 pm PST presser.

Hard to figure out what this was all about and if the murders were random, targeted, the killer knew the victims or not, what motivated it all, and etc. Hopefully we're about to start getting some answers and the families can start getting some closure and peace.

I've been following this story pretty closely. There's always a fear that a case will go cold for years but thank goodness there's been an arrest.

The suspect is Bryan Christopher Kohberger, 28, a grad student working on a PhD in criminology at Washington State, which is only a 15 minute drive from The U. of Idaho campus and the house where the four students were murdered. Pictures of him are popping up on the Internet. He just looks like a regular guy, not a crazy-eyed nutcase.

According to one of the reporters who's been all over this case, one of the first things he said to law enforcement when he was taken into custody - "has anyone else been arrested?".

Curious to know if he's just bullshitting and trying to mislead or if there actually was an accomplice.

Looks like they've had this guy in their sights for about a week or so. His car was tied to the immediate vicinity and time of the murders and DNA found at the scene was matched to him. Apparently the FBI has had him under constant surveillance and tracked him from WA to his parents home around Christmas, as well as had him under surveillance at his parents home since while officials in Idaho put together enough evidence for an arrest warrant. Sounds like they have the right guy. Now to find out what his motivation was. So far there doesn't seem to be an obvious connection to the victims.

Brendan Fraser was trending tonight. Seems like a genuinely nice guy that took some shots for a number of years. Was (allegedly) sexually assaulted by the President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and possibly blacklisted for years. Had to have several surgeries in the span of 7 years after a career as an action star. Wife divorces him and gets $600k a year when his career was essentially dead in the water. In any case, he was just all over this awards show apparently showing love and getting love back.

The writer who came up with the original story is Jewish (Brian Kopelman) so maybe it's an inside joke. I listened to a podcast with Kopelman. I was looking forward to the real life background that inspired "Rounders." Instead, Kopelman spent almost the whole time talking about when he worked with Tracy Chapman and how he was in love with her. It was uninteresting and a bit pathetic listening to the guy drone on about his obsession with an unobtainable woman.

I'm happy to see Brendan Frasier make such an enormous and unexpected comeback. He seems like a genuinely good guy and just went through some serious stuff. A year ago he was in the "What ever happened to..." category and dead & buried as far as Hollywood goes. Today, he's the toast of the town, picking up awards and accolades left & right, and looks like the odds on favorite to win the Oscar. Good for Brendan.

An ex girlfriend of mine is obsessed with Brendan because of this basically. Glad to see him back in business. he was the bee's knees in the 90's.

I ended up going to see The Whale tonight. It's definitely an Oscar-esque kind of movie. It was deep at times, incredibly depressing and honest, and at times hard to watch. Reminded me of What's Eating Gilbert Grape at times, but without the love triangle. There were a few things in the film that I didn't care for, I think it was a good film though, and Fraser's performance was excellent. I don't know if I've seen more tears in an audience during a film, but then again I tend to watch more Action and Comedy genres.
