Fan on II is driving from Buffalo to South Bend just to listen to the game on radio while staying the night at The Grotto. Great quote from him after numerous posts regarding his sanity/intentions:

"I am a 65 year old United States Marine. I fought in many battles during my tour in Vietnam. I fought in the epic 77 day seige day of Khe Sanh. I prayed to God and Our Lady to let me live so I could see my beloved Notre Dame. She brought me home alive so my dreams of seeing the Golden Dome and Notre Dame were all realized. I want to be where Notre Dame all started in America. This will be a beautiful night for me. A prayerful evening. I will light many candles. I just hope security will allow me to be there. I will represent all of us. Go Irish!!! I will listen to the game on a radio because that is where I found Notre Dame in 1955."

*If you post here too masked man, show your face and receive a heaping of reps, you are a national treasure!

Thats devotion right there...

Hope he checks in to this thread.

Would like to know he has all the stuff he needs to not become a popcicle while he's doin this. Grotto flames are pretty but not all that warm :).

Haha.. While I'm from Western NY it's nowhere near Buffalo. Plus this guy's way more of a badass then me.

Is this a lighthearted enough thread that I can comment on then versus than without being bashed, deleted or banned???

I admire dedication to The Irish. I'm willing to lend this guy my sleeping bag that's rated to 30 below. KPENN, I'll let you drink a pint from my "Corby's '74" glass. I'll provide the Guinness.

I will be in South Bend for the game. I will be sure to swing by the Grotto and see if I see him there.

I sure hope this guys is expecting company. If not, I think it would be cool if everyone came together to be a blanket of sorts. To make sure he is safe through the night outside but from a distant so he can still feel alone. Does this make sense? Been drinking.

Either way, would be cool to do. Guy is a bad ***! He is doing what I am sure many of us talk about but never follow through. I just moved from Missouri to Cali and have already come up with some elaborate plans to get to a game next year! Can't wait to make something happen to this magnitude myself.

I would ride along with this guy as a fellow marine so he is not standing post alone!!!
Personally I'm touched by both you guys and if I could secure a win by passing on seeing the game live I'd do it in a heartbeat.
