I agree on the Goetta. Store bought is bad but people from the area can make some amazing homemade Goetta.

As for Skyline, I've been living in the area for 8 years now and I still can't get behind it.

That’s supposed to be legit German, though I had never actually had their Goetta before they closed.

Finding good homemade is tough. As for store-bought, Gliers is the only option imo. Standard sausage patty-sized slices, cooked crispy on the outside but big enough to maintain some softness in the middle, steaming hot. Put a few pieces between two slices of toasted white bread with butter… hell yeah

But I’m currently in a weight-loss challenge so Goetta has been off the menu for a while lol

Current day? Quite a few, tbh. The best meal I've had in my life was in NOLA in 2003-ish. However, the city never seemed to bounce all the way back from Katrina and then with COVID hitting things got really bad. The last few trips I've made to NOLA I've been really disappointed with the food and my second to last trip the best meal I had was at the Saints game.

You can of course still find some fantastic high-end restaurants there or institutions that survived, but it just feels as though Katrina and then COVID killed off a lot of the smaller bistro/cafe type places that provided NOLA with so much depth to their food scene.

Places I've been in the last 10-15 years that I'd say have better food scenes? (No order) MN/SP, Denver, Portland, NYC, Chicago, Austin, San Antonio, San Francisco, Charleston SC.

I love(d) NOLA but the city just hasn't bounced back to what it was. It pains me as well because cajun food, when it's done right, is my favorite style of food....rivaled only by Mexican.

Fair enough, last time I was in NOLA was before Covid. Portland food scene is a good shout.
