There are certainly those who cry poor, there are also those who want to avoid jumping in with the heavy spenders and doing nothing more than increasing the cost of every player that signs after the Dodgers, Yanks, Mets etc fill out their rosters... I am frustrated with the former but totally understand the latter.

Fewer teams are choosing to be bad for competitive reasons, but there are still quite a few who are doing so because it is profitable. All of these teams receive money just for existing, so when they have a winning team (Reds, A's, Pirates) and start trading off players to lower payroll while collecting revenue-sharing checks in an era of expanded playoffs, it rubs wrong.

I think the time for big tanking (Cubs, Astros) is over with with the new CBA and there will be change that is good for fans, but the game still has a lot of business problems as opposed to baseball problems as long as these owners continue to behave in this kind of manner.

The Mets don't have that issue right now, thankfully for them. I'm envious in all honesty.

I'm glad Judge stayed with NY if SF was the only other option... however when I heard that SD came in late with a bigger offer than both of them and did the same for Turner... DAMN. That would have been amazing.

Aaron Judge is 30 years old and has a frame that doesn't age well in baseball. 9 year contract.

I mean, take the deal if someone gives that to you, but man that's an interesting allocation of resources.

The money won’t matter; the Yankees print money. No, how this deal ages will depend on whether Judge can fight the historical trends on tall hitters, both performance and health. The cautionary tale, of course, is right there: Giancarlo Stanton is 2 1/2 years older than Judge and one of the only comps for him in baseball history. Stanton has played just over 500 innings in the field the last two seasons, missed more than 70 games to injury in those two years and hit .211/.297/.462 at age 32. Judge, of course, was a better player than Stanton was at 29 and 30, and so he has further to fall. Judge is likely to be one of the best players in baseball next year and a very good one for a few years to come.

San Diego has a population of about 1.4 million people. They certainly have not been behaving in a "small market" fashion.

Yup. I can’t wait to watch some of these contracts blow up in the GM’s face.
Yup. It’s not how much you spend but how you spend it. Steinbrenner experienced this in the 1980s & the Mets did the same in the early 90s. High payroll guarantees nothing…except debt.

The Padres infield is literally gonna be four short stops with three playing out of their natural position lol

Redbirds signed Contreras after the Cubbies failed to deal him at the deadline. It's not even a bad deal! He won't be another Hall of Famer like Yadi, but his bat will definitely be appreciated!

No doubt. Although Machado is a damn good 3B as well. If Tatis stays clean it sounds like he’ll be in CF. If they can get their pitching solved, they could make some noise. NL would have a helluva slow-pitch softball league.

I honestly would have loved to see them get Turner and Judge,… how exciting would that team have been???

Hard pass…LOL

Seriously though, I read where Judge visited SD at the last minute to hear their pitch when he was out west talking w/ SF. Turner started his career in the Padres system before winning a ring in DC & leveraging his time in LA to a $300M deal. Seager & Machado before him had the same fortune. Crazy times.

Dansby Swanson & Carlos Correa still available SS

Correa signs w/ the Giants. Twins made a run at him and will now look to sign Swanson.

Dodgers sign Syndergaard to a one year deal.

A’s trade catcher Sean Murphy to the Braves for William Contreras. Sucks for Contreras.
