After spending time in a Texas, and dealing with both fan bases... I can't wait for Texas to win that state back.

Might pay off for ND... pure speculation leads me to believe that if BK were to ever leave, Kevin Sumlin might be the leading candidate to replace him (just my opinion).

As a recent graduate of Texas A&M, I have to say this is true. It's gotten better since A&M joined the SEC. Some of that UT hatred has shifted towards the likes of Bama, Auburn, and LSU. However, I don't think the UT hate will ever go away.
After all A&M's school fight song is essentially just an insulted directed toward UT... "Good-bye to Texas university, So long to the Orange and the White, Good luck to dear old Texas Aggies, They are the boys that show the real old fight, 'The eyes of Texas are upon you…', That is the song they sing so well - Sounds like hell!, So good-bye to Texas university"

That belongs to Purdue men's basketball

I used to hope for that because of his success and that he's a Hoosier by birth but my honeymoon ended.

If it wasn't for Murray's dad being a well known ex-Aggie, I'd say the smart move would be to TCU and take over for Boykin when he's done. Kyle Allen might just be able to hold onto that job in College Station. Gonna be interesting to see how Texas, A&M, Baylor and TCU shake out over the next few years.

As a person outside the state of Texas, and with no affiliation with either school, that sort of insult ("tu", the "t-sips", etc.) just seems really, really petty. A&M also likes to point out that their enrollment is larger (I don't know why this matters), and is now focusing so hard on pointing out that they "belong" in the SEC more than they ever did in the Big 12. Even the military thing seems overdone for a public school---I love the mascot Reveille and the traditions associated with her, but giving all sorts of benefits to the Corps of Cadets like preferential seating feels strange to me, like the school is trying to be a B-list military academy. It's just ham-fisted. Last I saw, the stadium also had conference division wins painted on the walls. That's so wannabe-ish that as an outsider, I'm just left shaking my head.

A&M would do well to focus on themselves and the fact that they have some great programs there and a lot of potential with the football program instead of trying to belittle everyone they've historically been tied to. Also, Texas has a better reputation nationally. By a lot. Both academically and in football. A&M should just realize that and move on instead of letting it bug them all the time. It's a big state, there's room enough for two good schools.

Sparty doesn't own that? I mean historically, not recently.

As a new resident of East Lansing, Sparty has it a bit but if you read their history, the hatred of MI has so much more to do with the fact that time and again, over more than a century, the University of Michigan has tried to kill their program and school. Blue wanted to prevent them from being founded, tried to keep engineering programs isolated in Ann Arbor, and has cut funding at every turn. With the recent rise of Sparty football, it feels like the hatred has died down and given way to more national aspirations, as it should.

Even so though, MSU football has had a few "all-time great" sort of teams, like the 1966 squad. And they don't seem to go out of their way to belittle UM, which is something I can't say for the Wolverines, who go out of their way to call ND "South Bend Parochial College," or say an Ohio State education is worthless, or that MSU is a great asset to the state of Michigan for the kids who are too dumb to go to Michigan and got rejected from the local community colleges.

A&M is a much better school than I think you are giving them credit for. It is an AAU member school like Texas, the B1G schools, the Ivy League's and the Stanfords, Vandy's, Duke's of the world. That's about as prestigious as you can get. It's USN&WR rank is 68, UT's is 53. Obviously they have different strengths but A&M is probably the best land grant school outside of the B1G and Berkeley if it's California's A&M school.

Hmm, that came off a little wrong. A&M is a fine school and as an engineer, I can respect their petroleum E and ChemE programs as being among the best in the country. That's really what I meant by there being room in Texas for two very good schools. I just meant that UT is better and there's no shame in admitting it. It's like how I view Ohio State and Michigan. I'm a Buckeye born and raised----most of my family has gone there for three generations---- but just because I hate Michigan's arrogant, bigoted guts doesn't mean that I'm going to say that OSU is better, like A&M people seem to do about Texas.

5-star QB Kyler Murray sticks with Texas A&M

They get into it in the Comments, ex.
"You guys are cards. You come over here with you nanny nanny boo boo 14 year old stuff when your program is declining and you lose to Bama 59-0. Your league avoided matching us up on the field because…well you know. You think 3-5 in your league is ‘success’. Losers."

Longhorn fans now speculating Murray will get drafted in MLB first round and take the millions, leaving A&M

Something about Texas A&M bothers me. I feel like because JFF was so good, they just feel like they accomplished something. They upset Alabama and that was it. You'd think Johnny lead them to back to back SEC titles.

God no....

Sumlin is a guy who's always been in the right place at the right time. Had Keenum (6yr QB) at UofH. Had ONE good year in a horrible conference...played 2 teams with winning records that year, BTW...

Then rode that to A&M and hit the jackpot with Johnny....I'm sorry, but you can't coach what Johnny did on the field, so I don't' buy that Sumlin is the reason Johnny was so good. And the team isn't worth a crap now that Johnny is gone. Next year they won't be any better.

He's a .500 coach. I think he's one of the most overrated in CFB.

Maybe not all that matters, but close. They need to watch Alabama, LSU.

Rivals State Rankings - Texas

UT just picked up Kris Boyd (#13) and Holton Hill (#14). Picking up Jamabo (1) and Mack (6) would seal it.

Other than the business school...UT is not that great of a school.

These two are hilarious. I have 2 family members that went to UT....Geoff is smug elitist that failed outta UT.

No reason to bash someone for being a fan and having some beers with players...News flash: You're both internet bloggers.

This, my brother in laws are OU and UT alums respectively, both agreed years ago A&M was a cess pool of ill brother complexes and over the top hooliganism... I remember my brother in law saying years ago the Aggie fans were basically a bad SEC fan base stuck in the big 12... We laugh about that now.

At the time I was surprised by it all, until I experienced their fans first hand.

OK. Texas isn't exactly an elite private school, but it's pretty good for an institution that has to grant guaranteed admission to so many students. And I'm not sure I've seen a metric related to academics where A&M is better.

My point was that they hang their hat on the business school...Not a bad thing, but they are a bit overblown as a whole

It has plenty of good graduate programs. Its law school is just as good as its business school. It's top 10 in its education, engineering, and public affairs graduate programs. Its semi-affiliated UT Southwestern Medical Center is decent, and this is probably weak only because it's not at Austin and more purely UT. It's graduate economics program is decent (not great) too.

UT is like most flagship public schools in that it's decent for most things and has a few strong areas. Overall, UT is better than most such schools. UVA, Cal, UCLA, UM, and UNC are the only schools that I can think of that are obviously better.

This can educate you on everything that is "Aggie."
Tell me about Texas A&M

Just some quotes from the first page:
They jizz in jars.
they have a propensity to engage in bestiality. I fear for the sheep in the southeast.
Buzz cuts and overalls are a way of life.
They collectively jack off into a jar and set it on fire before they play the University of Texas.

And I am not kidding.

Apparently the jizz jar thing is not a joke either, do a google.

and they love their dog... a lot

Texas vs Texas A&M

A&M fans are those weird guys sitting in the corner of a bar on Saturdays wearing a turtleneck under their crew neck maroon sweatshirt and a class ring. The class ring part is VERY important, and quite common among them.

While not elite, they're undergraduate business and engineering school are pretty damn good. One of my buddies decided to go to UT Austin for engineering out of state over Michigan. While Michigan might be a bit more well known for engineering, UT Austin is not that far behind. It's a top 10 engineering program with a huge alumni network. The same goes for McCombs.
