Really enjoyed the game. Nail-biter, on the edge of my chair all game!!! Oline was pretty impressive to me for such an inexperienced unit. I know that chemistry will eventually build. But, 2/12 on 3rd downs HAS to be fixed, and quickly!! Great road win!

How many sacks did our OL give up? I don’t recall any but I think there were a couple where RL stepped up into pressure.

Those were head scratchers. He just needed to forget about the double team and pick up the man.
Just a miscommunication. It wasn’t that he let them through, he just went the wrong direction in protection. I’m not sure what was called, but lots of times you’ll slide the front side and go big-on-big on the backside and if nobody shows and you’re a guard, you can help out your center. However the most effective way to do that is to help with your inside half while keeping your head outside, knowing your LT is going to either be engaged or there’s some kind of loop/stunt action you’ve got to be ready for.

He’ll get there.

I watched this game on replay and came here for the party afterwards. Too many downers in here, way more than I expected after:

1. Season opening win
2. On the road
3. As an underdog with almost every analyst picking the home team
4. In a road environment known to be hostile that didn't affect offensive penalties in any way
5. And played confidently enough that it felt like A&M had zero chance of winning in the second half.

Lee Corso is 1-0 with his game of the week pick on Game Day. The rest of those idiots are 0-for.

And Pat Mcafee still can’t keep his shirt on. SMH
I thought Saban would be better on Gameday than he was. I thought Pat was, and is, the best hire ESPN/Gameday has made in a long time. The FG segment every week is top tier.

I’m not a big fan of Mcafee even though I should since he’s an Indy sports homer. I think he’s shock talk and adds little value.

Although, if he’s paying those checks out of pocket, then that is admirable

Saban will get better as the season goes. Pretty sure his mother’s passing this week was on his mind. But he knows more about football than the rest of the panel combined. Kinda refreshing to see someone discuss the actual games instead of watching the freak show GameDay has become.

I think that Pat and Dakich both try and occupy the same space in sports/entertainment. The difference is Pat keeps it pretty fun and entertaining for the most part. And I appreciate him being an Indy sports homer.

I’m really curious to know what the A&M D line was thinking when the O-line was standing in front of them laughing. Lol

Yeah. I just assume I’ve gotten too old and too sober for the Mcafees of the world. Seems like a solid dude just not my cup of tea for an analyst.

Food for thought b/c I’m not a physiologist & am NOT claiming this to be the reason but I also noticed lots of Maroon jersey wearing players cramping & can’t recall an Irish player doing to so to the point there was an officials timeout called on the field.

We call that wishful thinking lol.

To be fair (and he doesn’t really deserve it) he was effusive in his view on the targeting call and I thought he pretty much confirmed that Riley’s 1st down run that they bungled the spot was conclusively across the line to gain.
I’d love to see him talk his way out of that being targeting

They’re not all gonna be pretty, the left side of the OL had a rough night and the team as a whole had too many penalties. Leonard also was realllllly rough until towards the end of the game. Missed a lot of wide open guys and didn’t display a ton of touch.

But big positives:
-The defense is as advertised.
-Right side of the OL played very consistent all night.
-RBs made big plays when it mattered.
-WRs were pretty darn good when given the opportunity to make a play on the ball. They also consistently got open most of the night and ran way better routes than last year.
-Consistent field goal kicking.

Forward looking they just gotta get the left side of the OL figured out over the course of the season, hopefully by Louisville it’s passable.
The left side of the OL was shaky early, but when they found success running the ball late in the first half it was to the left. This will enhance their confidence moving forward. Big win!

Any more regarding Faison? Obviously, he got rolled up, but is it broken?

McAfee is emblematic of the freak show. All flair no substance.
