Texas A&M considering SEC

Texas is the key for us. As long as they don't join a super-conference, we should be fine staying independent.

Also last year, if I were the Big East and Mtn West, I would have just combined conferences. Have two different 8 or 9 team leagues where the two champs play eachother. TCU, BYU, Utah, maybe add Boise St to go along with Pitt and WVU would have been a pretty solid conference. Now Utah and BYU are gone and TCU is gone to the Big East in a year.

You can call the Big Ten sell outs--AND I HOPE NONE OF THIS HAPPENS--but I think we have to give them credit for putting academics on their short priority list. It's cable reach, football, and academics that are required. That is why they won't go after Pittsburgh.

I dunno.

I think they want our money, not our academics.

How so, specifically? Doesn't the Big Ten already generate more revenue per team?
Revenue? No.

No way.

Do you mean network revenue versus NBC?

I don't have the thread available, but we had this conversation already.

I cannot recall, but someone posted heavy stats to support my claim.

I think it might be on the thread I posted earlier a few posts back.

It seems no one reads back anymore; they only post the same perpetual BS.

If not there, it's somewhere.

Good luck finding it. Ask TerryTate or BGIF. I think BGIF may have posted the information.

Big Ten trolls best be steppin'.

Dominoes are going to fall again. The Big XII is dead, and Texas will be looking for a new conference. This is the end of our independence and hopefully it moves college football closer to a playoff.

They could easily decide to stay in the Big 12 or become an independent.

I wonder what is going on in Norman. You hear a ton about A&M and Texas, but not about Oklahoma (or Oklahoma State for that matter).

I'm pretty sure Texas will not go independent. Dodds has apparently said that he wants no part in being independent which makes sense because independents are about to be pointless when superconferences are made.

Really, really interested to see what happens. I know for a fact that there are a lot of people in our athletic department that prefer Big East over Big Integer for a multitude of reasons.... and if Texas just goes purely independent who knows what's going to happen. I would love to know what this "understanding" is.

All in all... if we join a conference I hope it is the Big East or a brand new conference.

In other news, 4 super conferences with a 4 team playoff would be really neat.

If the Big12 falls, then so would the BigEast. Poaching season would open up again and the slender pickings from the BigEast corpse decimated by the ACC would be picked clean.

I have side with Big10 country, unless something totally unexpected comes along.

I actually think the Big East gobbles up the ACC leftovers because FSU, Clemson and GT/Miami are damn near locks for the SEC.

What does this mean? Big East grabs whatever leftovers it wants from the remaining ACC teams and kicks out whatever schools it sees fit. Big East stays relevant through shear size... and also the fact that it will likely add Duke and UNC making it the most ridiculous basketball conference imaginable. The other option would be the ACC trying to grab 7 teams from... where? I guess it's possible though.

Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Kansas and Kansas State/BYU join the PAC16. Big Ten grabs Missouri, Notre Dame, Texas and Pittsburgh.

I could see it panning out like this:

Big 10/16
Penn State
Ohio State
Illinois
Northwestern
Indiana
Purdue
Michigan
Michigan State
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Iowa
Nebraska
Texas
Notre Dame
Missouri
Pittsburgh

Pac-16
USC
UCLA
Cal
Stanford
Washington
Washington State
Oregon
Oregon State
Arizona
Arizona State
Utah
Colorado
BYU
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Kansas

SEC
Florida
Georgia
South Carolina
Auburn
Alabama
Ole Miss
Mississippi State
Kentucky
Vanderbilt
Tennessee
LSU
Arkansas
Texas A&M
Miami
Florida State
Georgia Tech

Remains of the Big East, ACC, and leftovers
UConn
Syracuse
TCU
Cincinnati
Virginia
Virginia Tech
Maryland
Duke
UNC
NC State
Wake Forest
Kansas State
Louisville
Rutgers
Texas Tech
West Virginia

Leaves out a bunch of teams. Superconferences will kill programs but save college football in the long run.

College football doesn't need saving. The only thing needing saving is the money the big wigs fear losing.

The most accurate and concise post I've seen in a long time. Congrats!

Report: Texas A&M to join the SEC - CBSSports.com

Also on CBS.

I love the world of instant news hahh

Texas still holds the cards.. *bites fingernails*

If you read the article, the author expresses doubt about the A&M move to the SEC. Apparently the site that reported the move also was convinced the Aggies were moving to the SEC last year. The author is further skeptical because the report was released on an A&M message board, rather than a broader medium. I suppose you have to take it FWIW, the report could be completely true.

If it had to happen, here's what I would like:

Blow up the Big 12 & ACC

New Conference:

Notre Dame
Texas
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas Tech/Boston College
Miami
FSU
Virginia Tech
Virginia
Clemson (SEC?)
UNC
Duke
Maryland/Wake Forest
Georgia Tech

Let the Mountain West gobble up the rest of the Big 12. Let the Big East grab the ACC leftovers.

Throw in an annual meeting with USC and/or Michigan.

Finally, I'd prefer to stay independent.

I want to stay independent but if forced I would rather team up with Texas and create a Conference. OU, Texas and steal Miami from the ACC plus sprinkle in a few others (BYU). I hate the Big Ten.
