I really think they should go to big ten but the big ten might not accept them and the tv deal. The acc would probably not have a problem letting them keep it.

From what I heard on M&M this morning, they simply said ND "should" be in interested in the ACC, not that they were. Maybe there was an update though.

I believe Notre Dame brings too much to the table in terms of fans and revenue for any conference to leave them on their own. All the conferences want ND but are not going to publicly beg for them.

As for teams breaking off from the NCAA and becoming it's own governing body, I just sense almost a billion lawsuits with that and I don't think the government would be too thrilled with that just as they weren't thrilled with the ATT and T-Mobile merger hence the lawsuit for that.

It's gonna happen sooner or later! We will be forced to join a conference. I dont want to but if we do I would prefer it be ACC rather than the Big Ten for two major reasons:
1) The Big Ten is going to a 9 game schedule in 2017 and this would limit the flexibilty of us scheduling teams like USC.
2) For recruiting purposes it would be more beneficial to play games in the south and along the east coast as we all ready have a strong recruiting base in the Midwest and we are not part of the Big 10 now. Join the Big 10 and I think we slip in what ground we have laid in FL and other southern states.

I think they would be more competitive in the ACC. I would much rather play B.C, Duke, UNC, FSU, Clemson, Tech, MD, Nc St, Va, Va Tech, Miami & Wake. Oh ya, Pitt and Mighty Syracuse as well.

Might want to check out the conference realignment thread. This has already been brought up.

I thought Texas was supposed to be our partners through this process? Now it seems they are looking to join the PAC-12?

Carlyle Holiday has the right idea here. First, the antitrust talk as it pertains to the BCS is mostly saber rattling. Second, if there were four superconferences and they left the NCAA to form their own organization, there really isn't anything the rest of the schools could do about it. I understand why you guys think there will be all these lawsuits, because people WILL be upset. But, contrary to popular belief, being upset is not, in and of itself, grounds for a lawsuit. I don't see any grounds on which a school or schools could sue a superconference structure seeking inclusion and win. Maybe they could recover some modest amount of money under a breach of contract theory, but they'd have to prove damages and (1) that would be harder than you think and (2) the superconference structure would be printing it's own money and probably wouldn't be all that bothered by it, anyway.

I believe ND looks at the ACC as a better fit for recruiting. Here is why. If ND joins the Big Ten, they will be forced to fighting for all the midwest talent. That is a lot of teams fighting for a small pool of kids. If ND joins the ACC, they can still get some midwest kids, but they also will be open to the biggest talent pool around in the Southeast. This is because we will be playing in the kids backyards. We will also be open to the East coast kids. Finally, we could keep our out of conference games with USC and maybe Stanford. That keeps Cali open for recruiting. I say the ACC makes sense.

I agree with u jones. that makes alot of sense and the acc would make alot more sense academically( sorry spelling probably not right). I changed my mind and want them in acc. another reason I can go see them play more if they play down here in the south.

I think its comig quicker than any of us want it too. they really don't have a choice but to join a conference.

I would hate to go to any conference but if we are forced to go I would love to go to the BIG. We are in the BIG country already and we usually have more teams from the BIG on our schedule than any other conference.

Whatever happens I'll still be an IRISH Fan. GO IRISH

This. If ND has to join a conference, the B1G is where our collective nightmare of "becoming just another Midwest team" will come to fruition. However, if we join the ACC we will be
1. The sparkling jewel of the conference in terms of football tradition.
2. Keep up our southern recruiting and our midwest recruiting while keeping a presence in the West (USC).

it is starting to look more and more like our football independence is going to be difficult to maintain.

i think jonesman makes a good point, having games in the south eastern region of the country would put us in front of a lot of good recruits.

i always said if i were the athletic director of ND i would schedule one or two games in the southeast just to expose kids to Notre Dame.

i dont think its going to be pretty when the dust settles after all this realignment. but i'll still watch

Irish to the ACC?

Irish to the ACC?

ESPN's Andy Katz is reporting that at the moment Notre Dame is staying independent in football, but that if we do decide in the near future to join a conference, it would be the ACC over the Big10. I found that interesting.Discuss.

Notre Dame going to the ACC would be great in that baseball, basketball, lacross, soccer, and football will all benefit. But where will the hockey team fall into this realignment?

Notre Dame in the ACC?
Views2101Comments21Email Print Facebook Digg RSS Share 08:21 AM ET 09.20 | Football independence may be first in the hearts and minds of Notre Dame and its faithful, but times certainly are a' changin' around the Irish. If I'm Notre Dame today I'm on the phone to Atlantic Coast Conference headquarters in Greensboro, N.C. because tomorrow may be too late. If I'm Notre Dame today, and I see the Big East in mid-implosion, see that the ACC has essentially left a spot for me (temporarily) and see the long-term demographic trends for the Midwest, I'm spending the afternoon having a long, soul-searching look in the independence mirror. And then I'm starting negotiations to join the ACC, not the Big Ten. ... "Obviously they are the most attractive option out there," one ACC athletic director told Yahoo! Sports on Monday.

I would assume the hockey would stay put. BC's hockey team is in a seperate conference than their other sports.

I think it sucks. Remain an independant and control your own destiny.

The reason ND would join a conference is because it can no longer control its own destiny as an independent. If you can't put together a schedule or have access to the national championship, how/why would you continue to play football?

With 16 team conferences, teams in conferences will not have enough open dates to schedule ND every year, and the chance that we can consistently put together 12 decent games is minuscule.

More importantly, the future of college football will be a lot different than the 1950's, where everyone played a bunch of games and then writers voted to determine who was the champion. We are headed to a playoff system, and if ND isn't in a conference we won't have access to it.
