My favorite summer brews.

1) Bell's Oberon
2) Dale's Mama's Lil Yellow Pils
3) New Belguim Somersault
4) Odell's Easy Street
5) Deschutes Brewery The Abyss

I really like the Deschutes Brewery The Abyss, but I don't think of it as a summer beer. I think the their Red Chair NWPA is a better summer beer.

I guess that I just considered it a summer beer for me. The only time I can get it is when I fish for summer steelhead on the west coast. I havent tried the Red Chair, i'll give it a shot come August.

I'm a pretty big beer connoisseur and have tried most beers mentioned here and I'm always up to try new ones when possible...

with that said I didn't expect to see a list of four out of five beers I don't recognize... are these all regional/ microbrews?? other than New Belguim of course, I haven't even heard of the others.

1) Bell's Oberon - Bells Brewery in Kalamazoo, Mi. If you have spent any time in Michiana during summer, I am suprised you havent heard of it. I believe they only sell it in the midwest and randomly in the southeast.
2) Dale's Mama's Lil Yellow Pils - Oskar Blues is a microbrewery out of Lyons, CO and is probably more famous for their Pale Ale. You can find it in all of the Rocky Mtn States, but it is limited in the midwest.
3) New Belguim Somersault - You said that you know em.
4) Odell's Easy Street - Odells is a micorbrewery out of Longmont, CO. Pretty much the same situation as Oskar Blues. They hold a killer beer festival every summer (at the same time as New Belguim's)
5) Deschutes Brewery The Abyss - Out of Portland, widely distributed and is in pretty much every state west of the Mississippi.

If you get a chance to try any of them, I highly suggest it.

I don't leave the south west very often, if they are not wide spread it is hard... but I have found is this market most beers can be found if you look hard enough... never even heard of the four I mentioned... and never been to Michigan

If you live in the Souwest, you should have Deschutes distributed to your liquor stores, keep an eye out for the other Colorado brews too. I know that they are sporadically distributed into the southwest.

Thats unfortunate about the Michigan thing. Beautiful state.

Of all the Bells beer I prefer the Two-Hearted.
Mix it with Guiness and you have yourself a Black Heart. Awesome beer.

Anchor Summer Beer been mentioned? Anchor Steam is probably my favorite domestic "regular" (non-seasonal) beer.

You probably have seen Deschutes Brewery beers around just not the Abyss.
They also make (not a complete list):
Black Butte Porter
Inversion IPA
Mirror Pond Pale Ale
Obisdian Stout

Snagged an Odell's IPA today but I didn't see the Easy Street.

Guys, whoever told me to try Summer Shandy needs a damn handshake and and pat on the a$$. Fantastic beer and I'm thankful I have my IrishEnvy family to hook me up with that kind of advice.

How did you like it?

I like the IPA, but Easy Street is a wheat beer, so they are pretty different as you can imagine.

I really enjoyed the Odell IPA. First impression is sits around the bottom of my top ten beers. I bought a six pack to verify that impression.

I also bought some Bell's Two Hearted today to give it a whirl.

NDOM I know you are from GR as well so I thought I would give you a suggestion. Go try farm hand by vivant brewery. It is made from a micro brewery off cherry street downtown and you can find it at d and w. Really good stuff.

Not a true summer beer, but it is hoppy, refreshing and potent. Quite the treat on a 90 degree day.
