Intentionally or unintentionally, feel like Freeman basically just said we knew they would give us 1-1s, Drew didn’t make the throws (enough).

At the end of the day ND needs a QB transfer that can make that throw. He also missed a wide open Tobias Merriweather for a TD by overthrowing him. WR's aren't the issue. The biggest problem with this team is having a QB capable of seeing the whole field. Neither Buchner or Pyne are capable of this. We would be 5-1/6-0 if we had an average QB.

Pyne has been awful. But the people pissed at Rees are justified --> Why Pyne can't make the right read or make that "layup" of a throw has to also fall back on coaching. Why there isn't a competent QB in the room who can make better reads or better throws also falls back on coaching.

Pyne absolutely has to hit that throw, no question. But Rees shouldn't be calling an offense where that missed throw results in ND losing a game. Instead it should've just resulted in the score being 38-16 instead of 45-16.... Rees is running an offense where there is zero margin for error. It's fucking ridiculous given the QB he has and the skill position talent he has....

Idk why people are hating on any of our WRs right now. They're being set up to fail no matter what.
Agreed on most of the WR but Styles had three drops vs Stanford. It’s not his first game where he‘s had issues. He’s supposed to be WR1 and he looks like it’s his first time seeing the field.

I don’t think even an expert (which no one on this board can seriously claim) can deem Buchner incapable after only two starts behind a trash OL that seemed to improve once Patterson got settled in. I’m not saying he’s a guaranteed hit, but I’d also like to have seen what he would’ve done vs Cal/UNC/BYU/Stanford.

The first one Pyne improperly lofts it which could get him killed. The second one he could have come down with it, but it was thrown late which took away his separation and his arm is clamped.

No we didn't. And neither did the polls, sports writers or coaches. We were ranked 5th. We were all disappointed that we weren't ranked again at 3-2 because everyone knows how good we really are.
Who tf was disappointed we weren’t ranked at 3-2? They must have an IQ of 80. Our team sucks. That doesn’t mean coaching doesn’t ALSO suck, but we have some of the worst receivers + QB in all of FBS football.

so is that what Styles says to his WR coach & Pyne…”I could’ve been killed had I caught that”? That’s subjective on your part, I don’t think he gets killed if he makes that catch. I think he get by the defender. We will never know.

I mean have you ever even watched football? I was bracing for the impending hit FOR him. Pyne hung him out to dry with that throw. He can’t focus on the catch because he also has to prepare to try and avoid getting obliterated.

No?

You go to the sideline and Pyne will probably be the first one to say it wasn’t placed properly. It’s not subjective, either Pyne threw it wrong or Styles opened up wrong.

The stadium atmosphere needs work no doubt. And the players need to be put in like sensory deprivation tanks or something on game day so they don't come out like they're going to church. But. When a team plays like landfill leachate, the crowd is gonna be lame.
The crowd is lame when were playing well too compared to most big time college football stadiums. Lets at least have an honest conversation here.

I don't care WHO the coach is.

Notre Dame from top to bottom has better athletes than Marshall and Stanford.

We should beat those teams with our back ups in with pee wee herman as a fucking coach.

And I'm so sick of the "give him a few years with his own players" excuse. It's fucking bullshit right along with the garbage coaching staff

It’s crazy because sometimes on TV it sounds like the crowd it rocking it out then people that go to the game say it wasn’t. Crazy what the tv can present.

Do they have someone on the staff that’s like the game day coordinator or stadium manager that could do thing to try and ramp this up?

Yeah no doubt. I'm just saying even at a PSU whiteout or whatever, if the team looks like shit against a bad team, the crowd is not going to be into the game.

The problems with gameday atmosphere run deep. I don't really know what the answer is. I do think they could do a ton of cool things if they wanted to.

  1. Incorporate bagpipes and the old Irish Guard (not just limited to band members).
  2. Change the student section layout to get more of them closer to the field.
  3. Hire someone to do better with the game day music and lights and jumbotron.
  4. Put less pageantry on the players. Save pep rallies for big games. Mass and the player walk are enough. I could take or leave even those two things but I don't actually think they are a problem.
  5. Sell alcohol in the stadium.
However, the true biggest problem (that will never get fixed): ticket availability and pricing eliminate a lot of people that would be more into the game. ND games are a social event for a lot of people, and a museum to others. ND stadium is not full of people whose week will be ruined if ND loses, like most other P5 stadiums.

I don’t disagree w/ your last statement. What I said was subjective is that Styles would’ve been killed had he caught it.

No I‘ve never watched football.

Do you brace for hits on every play that isn’t perfect? You act like he’s Darryl Stingley going over the middle getting hit by Jack Tatum.

He’s WR1. Catch the fucking ball. Yes, Pyne could’ve thrown it better but he didn’t for most of the game.

So you all didn't think there would be growing pains for a first year head coach at Notre Dame with an historically young staff and no QB? Grow some balls and stop asking for everyone to be fired. I get it, this season is not going how you expected in your little fantasy world imagination.

Sadly, the media and most fans did not expect this. The media has a huge impact on the fans and their preseason expectations were way off. Didn’t think we’d miss a beat.

Yeah I think looking back there some awful calls and bad turnover luck. Like we should have beat these guys by 20+ regardless. Also the pearl clutching over the home game environment is right to an extent but a lot of this stuff isn't something we can change with having 8,000 undergraduates. And we didn't lose at home for nearly four years...

Designate standing sections, lower the ticket prices for them, and sell beer in the stadium. Stadium will be hopping, I guarantee it

"lower the ticket prices" that's how you know this will never, ever happen. And stadium beers will be like $18 for a small miller - not enough to get people will get drunk and rowdy.

From my experience the drunkest and rowdiest students stagger in from the tailgates around 10 minutes after kickoff and get pushed to the waaaaaay back of the already distant student section whereas the kids who wanted to ??? and showed up two hours early to the game are in the front. Probably putting the drunken idiots up front and firing all those old nanny ushers would be a step in the right direction

Blow a .2 or you don’t get in the stadium. Blow anything under that and you get escorted to the dork tank in the library where you belong.

Bunch of nerds.

Not everyone, just Rees. Because there is no QB.

Well presently if you walk into the stadium that drunk decent chance you're gonna find yourself in the ND Stadium jail...I literally outran an elderly usher as he tried to escort me in there once (fogey grabbed my sleeve and was like "wait a second!" and I shook him off me and started screaming "DON'T TOUCH ME, DON'T TOUCH ME" as I maneuvered towards the exit). Lots of my friends weren't so lucky. And you know the approximately 8,000,000 random municipal Indiana cops everywhere in South Bend for the game (for "safety reasons" aka what the fuck else goes on in Michiana all year) discourage the rowdiness too

After watching this game, its very possible ND loses to Syracuse, Clemson and USC. I mean we all saw this being a down year, but 6-6 is a very hard pill to swallow. And it may cause them to lose out on some really important recruits.
Texas literally got one of the greatest prospects of all time in Arch Manning after going 5-7 the preceding year. I don't think we have a lot to worry about in terms of recruiting.
