This program had a culture problem when BK took over. They had a loser mindset and couldn't close out games. BK established a confidence and winning culture. He taught the kids how to win ugly.

MF doesn't even talk during the game.

My only real takeaway today:

Tennessee: Let’s unleash pyrotechnics, create the atmosphere of a heavy metal concert, and set off a seismograph today

Notre Dame: Let’s wave glowsticks before kickoff today

Is it possible for us to kickoff at 10am ET? That seems to be more our speed.

Never thought we would see the Charlie Weis era again but here we are
We wish we would see the Weiss era. How many games was he favored at home by 20 and lost? Fn none! We thought his teams were soft and out of shape?! F me! But we have the best strength and conditioning coach!!! Yeah sure. I’m sure Buchner could have done better than Pine tonight but so could Angeli and Powlus. It’s one thing to start a shrimp when they are a Flutie or even a Book but this little jelly belly F?! I thought playing Rees more than a year was a new low for QBs at ND (actually Sharpley was that low but Rees was close). Freeman and Rees have nothing to lose by turning this roster upside down in obvious situations. QB, WR, LBs and some of the DL. What happened to a DL playing almost a whole game?!

Jekyl and Hyde here. At least we know with another huge egg that Tommy will likely be gone after the season. While the D suffered let’s face it 16 points is pretty good considering we also had some turnovers. Not scoring more than twice against Stanford this year should be a fireable offense. Freeman needs to act like a real HC and announce Tommy has been relieved of his duites. Watching USC score at will against Utah. They are gonna beat Freeman worse than they beat Willingham.

Shake up the world ND and can Freeman and Tommy. At least we will have an excuse for being so awful this year. Who GAS what these sorry players think. They thought with their emotions when they got their way with their buddy as their new HC. They don’t get to make decisions. They can fire Swarbrick too while they’re at it. We would be 5-1 right now if not 6-0 with Kelly as our HC. He must be laughing his ass off about now.

Don't forget to send the kids to mass before they play.

Respectfully disagree. Especially when paired with a young and promoted from within OC in Rees. Freeman is lost on the Offensive side of the ball and Rees sucks and too green. This train wreck was something I saw coming- wish Swarbrick let Freeman pick his own OC at least in this hot mess.
My post said nothing about Rees. But there's no evidence that waiting for Fickell instead of promoting Freeman would have worked out better for us. It would have been more of the same, and you would not be satisfied with continuing to average 9.5 wins per season while getting intermittently smoked by the Big 3.

I’m absolutely not going to hate on that and appreciate the tradition and significance.

But I’ll be damned if that isn’t a weird phenomenon.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when Jack meets with Marcus about now. He has lost the locker room. Time to start being in charge instead of their buddies. They won't even be bowl eligible. Sad, fuckin sad

If Fickell was the only guy Jack was talking to, then that's a problem in itself. USC pulled in prime rib pussy in Lincoln Riley and we are talking to Backyard Burgers?

As the Great Humongous said, 'What a puny plan'.

I’ll take the Holtz or Ara years but I’m over 60.

Oh I mean we'll obviously never be great again - though I only started caring about ND in 2014. But for a bit there it seemed like an annual 10-2 was very sustainable! Obviously not. I expect the Irish to be AP top 15 every year for a good season. God knows when that will happen again.

That is the result when you show up and play one quarter of a four quarter game. Dudes should be ashamed, including the coaches. The refs were not great either but bad calls went both ways.

This team WILL NOT make a bowl game. I’m not entirely off the Freeman train but stuff needs to change.
Seriously?! Not off this guys train? Sorry but you are being too nice. Time to get dirty and get Urban.

This team looked like they were smelling themselves a little too much.

IF they smell themselves now, they may pass out.
this is certainly the perception. For example:

compete w/ elite OSU and ND comes away with feeling like they are no different than the past five seasons.

go into Marshall w/ a hangover thinking they can just show up & they get shocked & lose their starting QB

they get a wake up call and bounce back in the 2nd half vs a shitty Cal team to at least get some positive momentum.

”seem” to turn the corner on offense vs UNC as they get the run & pass going. Defense is solid but still leaky.

go into BYU w/ a little swagger…pulls in front 25-6 before the D gets leaky again & allows BYU to pull w/in 8.

goes into Stanford smelling their own farts again b/c they’ve been on a minor roll & stanford sucks…but

When I type mfMF these days it has a totally different connotation than it did in July. Sad times.

Here’s where I am at with Notre Dame football….

Wondering If South Carolina has ever played Oregon State, and seriously considering googling it…
It’s a good question, just like why can every other team in CFB seem to be able to have productive offences with less talent

Trying to keep a level head here - it’s unlikely we have QB play this bad again under Rees / Freeman. Pyne is the back up QB for a reason and Buchner is incredibly raw. Think it’s fair to think about how much a Coan-level transfer and + Kevin Austin returning solves things. We are potentially 6-0 in that case.

Freeman / Rees not taking a transfer WR is inexcusable really.

Kelly couldn't get us over the hump. Fickell would have been Kelly 2.0. Even if he flames out, gambling on the young ace recruiter was the right call.
Eh. The BOT and administration still wanting to hang in from#20-25 academically and ND not getting progressive and dynamic will keep the program down until it changes it's course.

Actually think Rees with a competent QB would be a very good OC. He just doesn’t know wtf to do when he can’t successfully throw it 40+ times a game.
That’s where your HC comes in and says, “to hell with what the right call is against this look. Run the ball”

Tommy and many young OC’s call what the defensive look dictates. Like it’s an exact science. It’s not.

They’ll throw an INT with a pop gun-armed walk-on QB and in the post game tell you it was the right call against that defense. They’re wrong.

And Pyne is a Rees clone. Mayer is his Eifert. Just throw it to him

Charm only gets you so far.
MFMF needs to win.

Otherwise Swarbrick sold out the program to keep one recruiting class happy.
This is a transition year. We were hoping to win 10+ games again to build momentum toward a more talented roster ASAP, but it looks like 6-8 wins is more likely now. We'll see how much the winning this year matters to his recruits.
And let's be 100% honest while for a normal person a ND degree means more on a resume.
For a contributor on a football team it doesn't matter if they went to Harvard, ND, or Arkansas.
Doors will be opened for them that a normal person doesn't even knows exists.
100% not true.
Bama 3rd stringers will never have to look hard for a job in Bama.
As a gym teacher, maybe. This meme that scout team players for Bama, Georgia and OSU are set for life due to millions in under the table booster bucks is pure fucking cope.

I never said your post discussed Rees. But MF is inexperienced as a HC and Luke Fickell is experienced. If the idea was to desperately keep Rees then pairing him with an experienced HC Fickell would have made more sense than this disaster as it’s clear inexperienced Freeman is the proverbial Blind leading the Blind w Rees.

- Estime and Diggs combined for just six touches in the middle of the third quarter. After Tyree got out and they started to get more carries, the offense started to look so much better. Tyree has not break a tackle in three years, i hope he gets out of the rotation and Estime and Diggs split carries equally.

- What is happening with Styles? He looked fast and explosive in his freshman season and now he looks slow and just a mere possession receiver who drops so many balls. And Lenzy? The Tennessee receiver who scored five TDs today is a speedster, a Will Fuller type of player, i thought Lenzy could play that role but he is been a major dissapointment thus far

- Pyne had a bad game, he relies too much on Meyer and his arm is just below average even for College Football. He wil not be the starter next season, thats for sure. What kind of player is Angeli? Is a game manager with average arm talent or he has a big arm?

- The defense is horrible, so many missed tackles.

I'm guessing you're talking about batted passes, some people have been talking about that tonight. If so, that one's a myth. Short QBs get their passes batted no more frequently than tall ones. Now, whether they see the field worse than a tall QB is a different story.

yeah, that was the very least of ND’s problems on offense. OL got owned by a shit defense.

Charlie coached pretty damn good for his first two seasons but forgot to teach players to get better or conditioned and was a dealt a big blow when Willinghams last recruiting class caught up to him.
