Tyrone Willingham. He led Stanford to the Rose Bowl, deserted the Farm for Notre Dame and finally fizzled at Washington. He knows the Bay Area landscape and is man of high integrity. But even when he took the Washington job he insisted it was his last as a coach, and he is enjoying his life on the golf course.

Looks like Cal is ****ed. There are 3 coaches that have surfaced:
1. Jon Gruden - Yeah, he's spurned lucrative positions at NFL clubs, just waiting to revive the Cal program.
2. Herm "YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!" Edwards - Nuff said
3. Tyrone Willingham - He'd run a clean program, but I think Cal doesn't want clean at this point.

I simply cannot comprehend how Ty could even be considered as a HC candidate... it doesn't compute!!!

Maybe if he ever decided to leave the golf course his coaching life might have been a little better.

Gruden is enjoying TV and is being paid pretty well. I don't think he's going anywhere.

I could see Steve Mariucci returning to Cal.

This. Making good money with hardly any stress.

Honestly, there gets to be a point where more money doesn't do anything to improve a lifestyle.

Exactly. Gruden is going to set a record for being mentioned for jobs. I actually do think the Tennessee gig would be a decent fit and wouldn't be shocked to see him there. But he really is mentioned for every job at every level that has come open.

This is true, but if he does come back its not because of the money. I think a lot of us could be doing something slightly less stressful and afford to take a little bit of a pay cut. We do what we do partially for the juice and because we like to do what we do at as high a level as we can (obviously the money doesn't hurt). For a football coach, sitting in a box watching others coach football may cause an itch that he needs to scratch.

This guy is just listing names he knows. It won't be any of those 3. All 3 are probably happy with their current jobs and have no desire to take the Cal job. I was expecting Diaco because that would make a lot of sense for Cal.

I mean if Gene Chizik and Land Kiffin can be coaches at big time programs I suppose Ty could do it. Chizik and Kiffin are the two biggest examples of falling up that I've ever seen.
