Have any of you guys started the civil war quests yet? If so, Imperial Legion or Stormcloaks? I joined the legion a couple days ago.

I thought about this one for a long time before making my decision. While it comes down to personal preference really, I tried to weigh the pro's and con's as best I could and define one as "good" and "evil" so I could link each with my morally pure and corrupt characters. In the end I found the Stormcloaks to be more noble and true to life in Skyrim, while the Legion was more attuned to evil (from the perspective of a true Nord). Here were my reasons just for giggles:

There may be some minor spoilers in here, but most of it is backstory that is mentioned in the opening scenes
Argument for Stormcloak's as good guys:

1. The worship of Talos was banned by the Empire following the Empire's loss to the Thalmor in the Great War. Granted, this was coming from the Thalmor as part of the peace treaty, but a true Nord worships Talos for the god he is.

2. While Ulfric did kill the High King that resided in Solitude, he did so according to the old customs of Skyrim by besting him in single combat. The High King was also chosen in part by the Empire to act as their puppet, he was not strong enough to lead.

3. Skyrim resides miles from the Empire itself as was once free. Imperial rule does nothing to benefit Skyrim and the fact the Empire lost the Great War shows how far it's recessed over the years.

4. The Imperials wanted to chop your head off in the opening scene, despite the fact you had nothing to do with the Stormcloaks they captured on the wagon with you.

5. You get the impression Ulfric is not the monster the Imperials portray him as. If you've done the dialog with him and the quest line, you'll see what I mean. In my opinion Ulfric falls more towards the hero side than the villain. Going back to the Markarth incident, he freed the Reach and routed the Forsworn. He was promised that Nords there would be allowed to worship Talos again, however the Thalmor threatened to invade and the Jarl of Markarth double crossed Ulfric to avoid Thalmor resistance.

Granted, while the Imperials are not really evil on their own, they're made to enforce the Thalmor's agenda because of their loss in the Great War. I just found the Stormcloaks to be the lesser of two evils and true to the Skyrim way of life. Having done a few Imperial quests now, I still feel confidant that I made the right choice for my "good" character by picking Stormcloaks. It's completely up to the player though, and ultimately it doesn't really affect much in the grand scheme of things at this point. I imagine that your choices in the Civil War will have a bigger effect later on in downloadable content. I'm betting that Skyrim goes to war with the Thalmor, it's almost a forgone conclusion.

As far as a free Skyrim not being able to stand up to the Thalmor...I'm calling BS :naughty: I've taken these guys on multiple times, they're no match for the Dragonborn. Either way Skyrim needs to be united and not divided to engage the Thalmor. Ulfric is the kind of leader that could conqueror the rest of Tamriel again and take it to the elves.

I am currently collecting Dragon Priest masks and prepping to complete the main quest line here before long.

Took a break to play AC Revelations and now I'm waiting to get back into it (leave starts tomorrow, so that may do the trick). Making Morrowind accessible would be a very quick way to get my attention- still think Morrowind had the best atmosphere of any Elder Scrolls game- Stilt Striders and Bull Netch >Horses and Dragons

I finished most of the game once now on my mostly good character. I started a new toon this week to do some of the more evil quest lines that I backed out of like Dark Brotherhood, I'm almost done with that quest line now. After I finish this second toon I'm going to do one more character and be done until DLC comes out and the Elder Scrolls Construction Kit. The last character is going to be a pure mage for fun, no weapons.

So I officially broke down and got this game, just to try it out and see what everyone was talking about.

It's been kind of a 'meh' experience for me so far. Here's what I think.

First off, the graphics are above average (first game in nearly 6 years to make me play at medium quality) and it's completely immersive. So far I've beaten the main story-line (at level 12; now at level 16), have about 20 quest lines started, bought Breezehome and have explored nearly every city in the realm... It just feels like something's missing.

I think WoW changed what I look for in an RPG. I don't see the point of leveling my skills, getting the most advanced armor, enchanting, etc. if the main quest line is beatable immediately and there's nobody, human or AI, that's depending on you to do your best at getting ready for boss fights. I mean, these dragons are killing everyone in sight including every city's guards/best soldiers, but I can kill them without a problem at level 6 with crappy weapons and armor!? At level 10 I'm beating the 'World-Eater' Alduin!? Yes, there are plenty of stories to go through, but without a definite direction I get lost and without a leveling system that makes sense with the areas/bosses you encounter it really gets boring. Maybe I'm just not far enough along in the game to have to really work on my character to get through it.

I hate, hate, hate that there are so many side quests that start while you're in dungeons that have nothing to do with the dungeon. I found a flower in Blackreach (Crimson Nirnroot) and it started a quest line, so I went and completed it thinking it was part of the main quest line, and all it did was get a guy to buy my nirnroot for gold and had nothing to do with progression in the game. What was the point? Put that crap outside the dungeon in hard to reach places, not where it would confuse people like me into thinking it matters.

Don't even get me started on the economics of this game; Finding people to sell my stuff to is seriously driving me up the wall. I made the mistake of assuming when they ask you if you still want to sell your stuff even if the NPC only has x amount of gold that they'd only sell the amount worth that much instead of all of it. Lost ~3k gold because they didn't tell me I'd lose it.

This game makes sense to me as an action game but as an RPG it's not my cup of tea. I wish the main quest line was longer and that you had to do more side quests/level up before you could advance. The puzzles are WAY too easy. So far it's really just been a mindless point and click adventure game with pretty graphics. If I was playing on Xbox360 it would be pretty fun, but as a computer game it's lacking. I really do miss the days of vanilla WoW (and having the time to play it).

Positive notes:
- It has probably the best AI I've experienced in any game I've ever played.
- Great graphics, even on medium. Great engine and no laggy areas that I've encountered so far.
- Completely immersive - there are ants crawling over logs, it's that in-depth.
- Fast travel is great, as are carriage rides. Love that your horse follows you around.
- Thu'ums are a cool concept, reminds me of when I used to play Jedi Academy.
- Good storyline, great online resources, very few bugs for something so immersive.

Negative notes:
- Limited NPCs that will buy your stuff and they run out of gold.
- No buy-back system unless you want to pay ~3-5x what you sold it for seconds earlier.
- Leveling system makes no sense, but it could just be me.
- SHORT MAIN QUEST LINE.

I would definitely recommend the game to those who like doing every little thing in a game. There are hundreds of hours of content to go through. It's just not for me.

Really? 3rd on xbox live is nothing to sniff at for a single player only game. For every xbox hooked to the internet, there is one not hooked up.

Ok I'm not going to start arguing with you about Skyrim at 4:18 AM. I just don't think skyrim is that great.

Skyrim is a really cool game, Oblivion was a very good game before it, and Morrowind was ok as well.

"My father says im too young to practice with a sword, so I practice with my fists!"

....I think one reason why MW3 may be dropping in populartity is because its basically the same EXACT game that has been re-packaged many times (MW, MW2, CoD:WaW, MW3) after awhile ppl have to get bored playing the same game again and again just with a new cover. Frankly, I'm surprised its popularity has lasted as long as it has.
