I've watched every game for the last two seasons and his coaching has not been good. He's a tired and worn out coach. Could that change? Of course, but OSU fans are glad that they won't have to buy him out. Great guy and love what he stands for but bad coach recently.

Those in the scouting/coaching business seem to think he was a good hire and is a good coach.

There is no question his team has struggled the last couple of years. He definitely needs to get back to running the ball as he got too pass happy with Mannion, and can make improvements to his coaching in general. I would not base my opinion of him on fan reactions however. Some people here act like Kelly needs to go. Fans are emotional and losing breeds anger that clouds judgement.

Personally I see him there five years. More of a transitionary coach. I think he just sees OSU as a dead end as much as he wanted to stay forever.

It will be fascinating regardless to see how he does. We might find that Pelini was underachieving in a weak conference, or maybe Nebraska is just not a great job anymore.

Sorry, in conference play.

Ya, that is a rough stat. There was a definite drop off at OSU the last 3-4 years. Still, I'm curious how he can do going from a Power-5 bottomfeader to a Top-5 B1G program.

I think the challenges at OSU are really just massive right now. Guy has turned down SC and Bama in the past, was born and raised in Corvalis. I think he's getting out now before he's too old to get another chance to coach a potential Playoff program. He knew that would never happen at Oregon State.

I think the analogy is a good one. I do think Pelini is a little overrated however, and that Riley is an upgrade. That said, I thought the firing itself was a mistake and I agree that if they really were trying to win championships this doesn't make sense. I feel like a coach would need a Chip Kelly like effect to take them to that level and that is not happening with Riley... or probably anyone else they could have hired.

Fair enough, I'd like to hear why they believe so. IMO, I think its because he's such a stellar guy. Somebody that you just have to root for. Heck, I cheered for the Beavs because I'd like to see him win more. I just don't see it. Whether it be in game coaching decisions, personnel decisions, or staff decisions they just haven't been very good recently.

Last night the local news ran a story that inside sources were saying Tony Sanchez to UNLV was a done deal. Both sides are denying it though.

Wait what? Kelly is actively trying to push out the guy who runs all of his recruiting? I mean, I understand why you'd want to help a guy as great as Tony get a promotion but... damn... self-interest, no?

I think as a head coach you want what's best for your other coaches. Maybe he feels this is best for Tony.

Rolling the dice... maybe he doesn't think Tony gets it, but wants to show his support. Or BK is just a stand up guy, which of course he is.

WTF is Kelly thinking...Alford is a MUST to keep on this staff.

If he ever wants to hire a good coach again he'll do his part for Alford, and the next guy.

Alford is leaving at some point, more than likely soon. You might want to get emotionally prepared.

The good news is that IE wants Kelly to get an OC and this opens up that room.

I wonder if Quinn is a good recruiter?

Jeff Quinn, I suppose. And then Denbrock would be named recruiting coordinator??? Just spit-balling.

Maybe CSU already called and Kelly and Jack both called to say "It's okay to interview Alford. He's a good guy and coach."

Yeah, I'll miss Alford, but if he wants the CSU job you have to support him. It'll be a step up the ladder for him and his family, and the program is a good fit for him given the history and his ties out there. Sucks to loose coordinators so often, but it also means that we've got attractive positions for potential new coaches.

Denbrock is good, but in his new role he doesn't do half the recruiting he used to. I wonder if that changes.

I agree with everything except that Alford isn't a coordinator.

Edit: I am an idiot.
