Keep. We are two freakin' games into the season. He lost the game by a last second play. UM caught every break imaginable. If these two teams played again this season, we win. They have no answer for our O, but we will get better as a D. Plus, we would get Big East officials.

Great comment. If they can pull 9-10 wins and no significant BCS or bowl play, we are going down this road until Jimmy graduates, just my opinion.

I think Charlie Weis can be a great coach. My question is will he be a great coach at Notre Dame. I hope so because i love Notre Dame and want to see them win the right way.

I would not be surprised to see weis pull a bellichick and win at his second stop

the ONLY way there is a 2nd stop, is if not-smart-decision-makers fire him.

Its way too early for this kind of talk. Lets wait and see what our Irish do the rest of the way.Once the season ends, we can discuss this all we want. I don't think questioning whether he should be fired helps things, especially right now. Just my opinion. Go Irish!

I agree totally! This can be discussed after the season. It's not like the University is going to fire him in mid-stream of the season anyway. See how things play out the rest of the season, then reflect on what he has accomplished as coach and leader.

I am a first timer on the site so my opinion doesn't have much credibility but I look at it like we (as fans) are accepting average play out of nd. From a football view, Weis has done one thing for this team that has been above average and that is recruiting. Other than that everything has been far below average as far as the notre dame football goes. As far as I am concerned, the the letters across the front of his sweater do the majority of the recruiting. Many top athletes in the country are still swayed by football tradition at Notre Dame. If things keep going this way the tradition will become less of a factor. Bring in Gruden. Thats my vote!

Youre right your opinion doesnt hold much credibility,

two bcs bowls in his first two seasons, one really bad year which any intelligent ND fan knew was going to happen, an average season with a huge bowl win.

and know one of the most lethal offenses in the game, rings up 34 points in the big house BTW that has never happened before, and shuts out a nevada team who had three 1000 yard rushers.

Charlie haters will always be Charlie haters, but at least let the season play out!

My question to Charlie haters

My question to Charlie haters

So you fire Charlie.

You pay off the remainder of his contract which is MILLIONS!

You Lose the coach who loves ND and recruits top ten classes annually.

You have Transfers Galore! because whether you like CW or not his players do.

You Lose the entire coaching staff.

And you start from scratch all over again, new coach, new system new everything!

and who do you get?

urban? the scumbag that shunned us for florida? youd give him a second chance at ND, how spineless would ND look then?

gruden? you say Weis comes from the pro game and doesnt understand college football but you want Gruden?

Brian kelly? the big east flavor of the week?

May I remind you Charlie took us to the BCS twice with talent inferior to the team he has right now!

This offense has put up better numbers in two games against REAL teams than florida has against two glorified highschool teams.

the defense obviously isnt gonna pitch shutouts every game but it definitely wont allow 38 every game either.

I know this was bad timing coming the day before game day but im just sick of Charlie haters. "fire Charlie!!!!" AND DO WHAT??

GO IRISH!!!

No disrespect but do you not think the two teams he took to bcs bowl games did not live up to their expectations? ND beat Hawaii last year. They won big but it was Hawaii man. The team really needed that win, and it was a big morale booster, but we are talking about ND. The team that USED to beat up the likes of teams like USC. Now we as fans are using a bowl win over Hawaii for leverage that the program is in the right direction. I was at the game last year when Notre dame lost to a terrible Syracuse team. Up until that point Weis was the guy for me. I gave him the benefit of the doubt on nearly every criticism, but that game woke me up. Losing to a terrible team in the house that Rockne built. I started panning over the teams ND had lost to since Weis' arrival and it is sad man. I have seen 1 game that the Irish can be proud of since he has been here and that was a loss as well. 05 ND USC. Do you not think he has had plenty of chances to prove himself as the man that is gonna take the Irish back to the top?

the first team he took to the bcs EXCEEDED expectations in every way Are you Kidding, nobody gave that team a shot, the second team was predicted to go to the championship and fell a little short. but made a bcs bowl regardless

Changing coaches is easy, but changing cultures is not, and the two previous coaches at notre dame bred a losing culture, they also ran completely different offenses, Charlie has had to battle that his whole time at ND.

we had players that werent good enough to play Div. 1 A football that are finally being weeded out, Charlies building a Juggernaut, You will see.

I look at the Weis situation this way: are we heading in the right direction? My answer to that question is YES. The offense is clicking the way it should be. The defense has shown signs of being able to be respectable (Michigan game aside). Recruiting has been at a level I personally haven't seen since Lou was here. I just think a combination of these things play in ND's favor going forward from here. Now, if the team screws the pooch and we end up around where we were last year, then I may be singing a different tune. On the whole, I feel like we are in as good of hands as can be at this time. In ND we trust.

Sadly, I too was at the same game, and I completely share your sentiments. I was crushed, and walking out of that stadium, in the friggid cold, I remember saying to my friend, "He (Charlie) has lost this team..." It was clear they just had no heart left in them, they were done - and the pasting by USC that followed one week later was a painful reflection of that fact. BUT, somewhere between USC and Hawaii, Charlie got 'em back again - they played inspired football and all seemed ok again. Then, fast forward to Nevada - the team looks awesome again, and I felt in my heart that, YES, Charlie HAS gotten his team back again; but NOW is the crucial time for Weis, THIS game, tomorrow, will say it all - does he still have this team, or has he lost them? So much will be revealed in tomorrow's game against MSU - the heart of this team, their desire to win, their desire to win FOR CHARLIE. If he hasn't lost them, the Irish will respond favorably to last week's heartbreaker and will come up with a big "W" tomorrow. If not, however, that same sinking feeling that came over me leaving the stadium after the Syracuse game last year will inevitably return - and with it, calls once again for Charlie to go. Tomorrow's game is huge for this coach and this team.

Well put Alumni! The season is not lost by any means, nor is the team's desire to put ND to the top (I hope). It is true that Weis has faced nothing but criticism since he has been here, and has had to prepare teams to win with his back against the wall week in and week out. All criticism aside, I hope I am proven wrong about my thoughts on Weis by the team putting together a respectable year. If this team can finish this season with 2 or less losses, Weis will keep his job. If he loses tomorrow. heaven forbid, this will be Weis' last year. If the big contract wasn't looming over the university, It would have already been done. I just want Weis to prove all of us "weis haters" wrong. Go out and prove that he is WORTHY of coaching at this University. Keep in mind, it is a privelege!

trob, i would never say i told you so to a fellow irish fan, now if i met up with mark may in december, it would be on!!!

i understand how hard it has been to be a notre dame fan for the last few seasons.

but just think, Cw's brought in players the right way, dealt with most team problems the right way, and has a serious depth chart with more recruits lining up to get in. hes got a plan, hes building a serious contender the way it should be done.

Quick fixes are good for quick satisfaction but in the long run you lose.

Charlies strengthened this team to a level that i have not seen in a while, we may have lost in the short term but in the long run we will be the ones smiling.

Keep for now.

After the scUM game I was almost in shock. He should have ran the ball, if he would have our chances of winning would have gone up by at least 75%.

I wanted him gone.

That being said, if we can win out, or at least come really close to beating USC and win the rest, we keep him.

As a fan living in SEC country, he would have been done by now in the SEC at the competitive schools. Am I the only one that gets the impression that Charlie at some point in every game is a bit confused on down and yardage? There needs to be significant improvement by the end of this year, or the resumes need to be prepared.

SEC schools would fire the coach who is averging 500 yards a game with HIS offense? the coach with the 15th rank total offense in the country would get ran in the SEC?

Florida #1 total offense has beat up on Charleston Southern, and Troy
Auburn #2 total offense has beat up on Louisiana Tech, and Miss St.

Only way CW would get ran is if not-smart-decision makers 'went with the herd' instead of doing their due diligence and analyzed the situation to sort the flyshit from the pepper.

Yes. Guy is an offensive genius. Puts in roughly 20 hours of work a day during the week. You really think he sometimes doesn't know what down it is?

Considering the quality of your first post, IrishEnvy owes waterboys everywhere an apology. You definitely don't rate to be in their company.

Charlie wouldn't have gotten a job offer from the SEC to start with. He doesn't have a 50% graduation rate for his players. He doesn't have a 35% graduation rate for his African-American players. Charlie doesn't play ineligibile players. If Charlie's players don't go to class they don't play. Charlie's players don't have to run wind sprints for DUIs and Sexual Crimes. They get suspended even if it's "just one beer".

The boosters at Bama and Auburn would have bought him players in Year One if he couldn't plug in enough JUCO's to fill the holes Willingham left. Calculus would not be discussed in an SEC interview if Charlie coached there. It was only four years ago that the SEC passed a resolution to require players to "pass" (that means a "D") a total of 2 courses to be academically eligibile. That academic landmark only came about because a newpaper had verified that 6 players participated in BOWL game after not passing a single course during the Fall semester.

If Charlie was at ND he could sign 33 players in a class unlike at ND. "Redshirt", "greyshirt", "park 'em in a JUCO til we can get them eligible" all terms the ND Adminstration doesn't recognize as is "buying players".

If Charlie was in the SEC he'd being playing The Citadel, Charleston, and other Div II schools between those key SEC battles. He wouldn't have to play on one coast one week and the other coast on another week. Odds are he and his players wouldn't lose travel time at all like they do at ND as they wouldn't go outside the states in the conference.

The practices above cover the principal reasons Urban Meyer turned down his "dream job" to go to the SEC where winning is easier.

And your down and yardage "every game" comment is pure BS.

This one should be there. Along with favorites from NDinL.A., NDOM, Wabash, TDHeysus, NeuteredDoomer, Steve, Mick, Jason, JPham, and the many others who write so much better than I do and have vastly superior knowledge.

Tried to rep you but I couldn't! That first line had me rolling.

One more thing. If ND and CW's offense had played The Citadel and SouthWest SUCKASS JV University like FL had played the 1st 2 games, the computers calculating the offensive numbers would have exploded. Tate might have been arrested for abuse, Clausen for assault with a deadly weapon, and Floyd for just being too damn good. Please don't come to me with that SEC offense crap. Unless you love great defense (and they do have some fantastic defensive players in the SEC...you know the guys who can't spell Notre Dame), SEC games are a snooze-fest. Most of the offenses are remedial, and most of their QBs suck royal balls whenever they have to drop back and actually throw the ball down field (and no, the bubble screen doesn't count). Even their top throwing QB (Snead) transferred in from Texas.

The SEC and 'offense'? Child please...
