Talked to a couple of Georgia buddies who were at the game and I would describe them as realistic in terms of evaluating their team. Kept things very simple for Fromm which was okay considering the opponent. But they said a few of his throws were dying ducks that against an SEC opponent would probably have been INT's. They are worried they won't be able to make enough plays in the passing game against ND. If they fall behind and have to rely on Fromm to bring them back by throwing the ball then they are in trouble.

I get the comparison with Fromm and Kizer in 2015...however Kizer went late into the game against Virginia while Fromm will have the whole week to prepare. I don't care what the naysayers are saying or the GA boards (didn't know they had boards) are saying. Gimme whoever the hell Georgia has to play, I get both QB's were 5* in their recruiting class, but that was high school. ND is not App St., either way ND needs to be ready.

My concern is their defense. Alize has still given no reason to believe hell be a threat, and our 1 and only WR is ESB. Someone needs to step up on offense, because they're talented everywhere and the running game won't come easy. Wimbush can't win this game with 1 wr target.

One, how many times was he targeted? 3? Maybe 4? Too me, he looked plenty fast on that reverse play he had (blocking just wasn't there, and well read overall by the D). He also looks strong, not just fast. Looked pretty jacked. And he also had a great catch with defenders draped all over him (the one where the ball ended up on the turf for a second).
I see nothing "wrong" with Cam. In fact, I saw enough to tell me that he's going to be dangerous if teams over commit to our TEs and EQ.
I believe the issue is, people are unrealistic with the receiving position and what is "expected". It's hard for a guy to put up crazy stats when the TEs and EQ are getting most of the targets and we're running the ball for 400 yards...

Pretty sure this is what every LSU fan has thought for the last few years. Still didn't work out for them though...
Granted, they play tough defenses consistently in the SEC, but there is still some truth there. Teams can only do so much when their QB's aren't great. Even with receivers like OBJ and Jarvis Landry, they still didn't put up prolific numbers like they should have.

Both are 5 stars. 1 with a year experience and was underwhelming apparently, and one who looked good in 1 game that doesn't matter. QB of course matters, but does it here? Do we even know exactly who we want them to play?

Cam Smith did nothing wrong. But he doesn't do anything special. You don't need to be special to beat Temple. To beat a defense like Georgia, you need some special. We have ESB and a couple Rbs. That's not enough special IMO.

This is so dumb. There have been tons upon tons of teams that have won big in CFB with 1 or 2 "meh" skill positions players on their offense... especially teams with dominant OLs. Do you need me to list them?

No, because we're not Bama or OSU or even Stanford for that matter. I'm talking about the game between Georgia and ND in 2017, period. I don't believe we have enough play makers to win this game. I think we need 2+ turnovers, or 1 game changing turnover (which I've explained).
I think their defense will be something we haven't seen since OSU in 2015.
And no, I don't think the QB matter in this game. Because if you polled half of the ND fans and even the ND coaches, you'd probably get a 60/40 spilt. And I don't even know which would get the 60.
Could I be wrong? Yes. We will see how it goes.

You guys seem to think we win - that's fine. I won't go over why I think we lose anymore, I'll just point out what I think needs to happen for us to win:
- Finish +1 or more in turnovers.
- Avoid game changing turnovers (turn over inside own 20, pick six, etc).
- Eliminate passing plays of over 30 yards. Cannot give a freshman confidence in himself and his WRs.
- Someone needs to step up and have ~60 yards receiving other than ESB. Claypool, Alize, someone has to be a threat on top of ESB.
- ESB to be ESB.
- No more than 2 runs of over 20+ yards.
- I don't care how many sacks, but we have to be making Fromm uncomfortable on most plays. Maybe they result in a sack, incompletion, getting outside pocket - he just has to be worried when he drops back.
- Have a couple pop passes in the middle to prevent their LBs from crashing into the LOS and getting penetration. Have to keep their aggression in check.
- Lots of beer from the ND fans.

He may or not be a better prospect than Eason, but he should not come to South Bend in his first start and beat us at this point in his career. Also I am not convinced Kirby Smart at this point in his head coaching career has the experience to prep a brand new quarterback with a simplified yet winning game plan in Notre Dame stadium in week 2. If Fromme is in fact a bigger problem for us than the guy who has been starting the last year we do indeed have some problems. This is a must win for Coach Kelly at this juncture IMO. Kirby Smart is not even close to an elite head coach at this point, and Georgia while good is not close to an elite program. This is the kind of team we should beat at home given their recent developments.

Exactly. The difference between boat racing a team (even leaning almost exclusively on the running game!!) and imploding is that you have to at least be a threat to throw the ball. If the team knows your QB is total trash they can load the box and run-blitz every play. Eason -- over 13+ games -- proved he was trash. Fromm was absolutely not trash in an extremely limited sample size and no game prep. If Fromm turns out to be the real deal, it makes a HUGE difference for this game.
I've said going back months I expected us to win, possibly handily. But that was with their (very bad) known quantity at QB. Fromm might be just as bad, but I doubt it.

Cam Smith looked fine to me. No, he didn't get a ton of targets. Those went to ESB, the TEs and running the damn football. Smith looked fine and if he's as fast as advertised, he's a weapon, as are various of our TEs. The only pass-catcher I was disappointed in was Alize, and I'll attribute that to rust, for now anyway.
Either way, I think we'll score points. Bigger question is if we can stop them from doing the same.

Exactly. To use a ND example, and I'm not slagging em off, but we knew we were going up against Crist. Fromm might be Clausen-esque. Both 5 star guys. One has proven he won't be able to live up to the 5-star label. The other might just be chomping at the bit.

K. I mean Vegas gets it wrong all the time but it's at least a decent barometer that the teams are somewhat close. Obviously turnovers are always important.
If you ask me, no need to blitz and put our safeties in a tough spot. Drop 7, let Daelin and co pressure Fromm to throw into coverage.
Who's he going to throw to? Their leading receiver last year was Isaiah McKenzie (lol), who only had 633 yards.
Defensively they are definitely nasty, but I'd be surprised if the run game isn't productive. Biggest concern for me is Wimbush getting too comfortable , happens a lot with mobile QB's. I can visualize Kraemer/Hainsey getting smoked and Brandon getting blasted/fumbling/throwing a pick.

2) He had a hamstring issue not even a month ago (yes Kelly said he was 100%)
3) He played against Temple
I expect his roll to increase, but for those who expected him to get 7 catches for 120 yards and 2 TD's against Temple...give the kid some slack.

Biggest thing for me is always getting off the field when it's 3rd & 8 or longer. Allowing sustained drives when you play well the first 2 downs is so deflating. I wish there were stats for our wins and losses and it goes through how many first downs we gave up when we had them at 3rd and long. It's key for every game, but multiplied ten fold for a freshman QB, like in this game.

I watched Fromm last year - from my hometown - and he will be something special in the years to come. His current knowledge of the playbook is limited and he will not handle pressure at this level very well as a Freshman. I think Elko will have a great plan for him that mixes blitzes with dropping into coverage.
I watched App State gash them at times in the run game. I think we will find success in the run game if we stick with it. I have little doubt we will put up yards and points.
If we play the type of ball that the new coordinators were brought for, we win by at least seven. UGA isn't that good.

I'm not worried about Cam or Alize. I think once we got up, and realized we could just run it for fun, we held back and decided to save and sit on some of our passing plays. No sense in shooting our wad week one against a much inferior opponent.
