I'm happy we're rolling out Book instead of Wimbush, but BW sure extended a bunch of drives against UGA a couple years ago. A lot of our most important and most effective plays involved BW getting happy feet and then just being too good of an athlete even for UGA to stop. The UL game has me worried that Book gets too antsy in the pocket, especially in a night road game environment. He won't be converting 3rd and longs with his legs, even if he is an adequate athlete.

Our WRs are much better than what we were trotting out last time. Cam Smith had 4 receptions. ESB was held to 2 for 16 yards. We had Claypool and Stepherson in 2017 but neither showed up in the box score (KS might have been suspended?).

2019 Claypool > 2017 ESB imo
I think Finke moving back to the slot is going to be huge
McKinley/Keys/Lenzy should be better than Cam Smith and Freddy Canteen, who were getting lots of burn at the start of 2017.
Kmet is a serious matchup nightmare if he's healthy.

I don't have confidence in the run game to do squat, so Book has gotta have a good game. He can't pass up on golden opportunities like he seems to be gaining a reputation for doing.

Idk why, but I'm getting more confident in the LBs as we get closer to kickoff. I think the defense will do alright against their run game. Sensing a big game on the way from Hayes, Gilman, and Elliot. One of Kareem/Okwara will finally start making plays again.

Only way I see us winning this game is by winning the turnover battle and having good special teams play, or UGA having poor special teams play. Nobody gave us a shot against Oklahoma in 2012. This is why we play the games. Go Irish fellas.

Not like the last couple years. Twelve 5 star kids in 2 years. I don't think UGA has ever had the many in a two year period.

This^. There’s no question that as good as UGA recruited pre-Smart, he’s taken it to an elite level...based on the star system & the composite rankings.

If ND wins everyone on this thread is gonna be like "Yeah man, I mean I knew they could win...my 673 posts about them getting bent over and railed in EVERY facet of the game was just the negativity that I carry seemingly always when posting on this thread". You'd think this was the f*cking New Mexico Team Forum. And I know, before you say it "We're just being realistic" "Rose colored glasses derp derp". What I know is this team recruits really well, and we have the players to go down there and win this game. Idc how good NM is, to beat a team that damn badly you gotta have some dogs. To beat a team like that when you're using maybe 50% of the playbook, and trying to find the right combination of guys to use against UGa, is really impressive. I know most of you guys don't, but I expect a win...or at least a damn good game that goes down to the wire in Primetime. GO IRISH

It seems to be an homage of some on this board to want to be right and after we win, have the credibility to be wrong and then forgiven. and it's not everyone that doubts the reality of how hard It will be. It's the few that consistently post like they are a Twitter virus year in and year out.
It's vitriolic of those that want to sneak in the grass like a snake and say things that fundamentally make them fans of every team but this boards. It's a year in and out thing and you put It mildly in my opinion.
I keep talking about millennials, and those that worry will chirp every now and again, It's a defense mechanism against the fact that toughness comes from hard work, and sweat Is annoying to most of these kids these days. Our Boys put In Work and this crap Is very upsetting.
We put the work In. Let's get us some Georgia hedge fund (white envelope) beatches. Between the bushes.

I dunno. Some of the biggest Debbie Downers on the board this week are longtime solid posters and ND fans who - for whatever reason - just see this game going poorly. (Some are longtime Negative Nancies as well though). Agree the predictions that we'll be lucky to stay within 21 seem, well, excessive.

Myself, I wouldn't put money on us winning. I get the poor matchups and the talent gap. But I don't think this'll be one of those games where the moment is too big for our guys, many of whom have played and won a lot of college football. They come to Notre Dame for games like this and I don't think they'll fold easily. And I trust the staff to scheme well enough to keep us in against a team with more top-end talent. Catch a few breaks, and who knows. You've got to believe in something. Go Irish.

That 2017 team had a lot of highly rated studs, who were also veterans. Guys like Terry Godwin, Nick Chubb, Sony Michel, Lorenzo Carter, Trent Thompson, Roquan Smith, Mecole Hardman and Isaac Nauta. All 5-stars and all starters/primary contributors on that 2017 team.

What they've done in 2018 and 2019 is impressive, but those guys are freshmen and sophomores.

This Georgia team has quite a bit of talent, but they aren't as veteran laden as the group we faced 2 years ago.

I'm not optimistic about this game. I'd be surprised if we win, based on my concern for the run offense and defense. But that's something to take into account. Experience and leadership matters.

I still have my doubts about his coaching, but he can sure recruit. I think it was wise Whiskey that said he could be out coached, and I agree. Just not sure he can be out coached by Long lol.

Yeah, i’m confident in BK & Lea. This could be Long’s biggest game where I hope he does his best play-calling to date. That could be the difference.

I don't believe we need breaks. I believe we need officials that won't overturn calls that are correct and stay the course. We have a full-blown CBS game with the SEC homers calling every play with homerism for the Georgia sideline. It'll be hard enough watching, let alone reading these guys acting like their in love with the SEC and listen/watch ESPN too much.

Not an Urban Meyer fan but acknowledge his coaching acumen. Listening to him on Fox pregame & he had good advice...short & sweet: just get thru those first 5-10 minutes tied or close score and the game will level out. Do that by getting a few first downs; no turnovers; no sacks given up & on defense no home run plays by UGA. Survive that & it’s anyone’s game. I like it.

One advantage this years offense might have is that I think we were banking on the 2017 o-line to be very good against Georgia and they were actually bad, whereas this game we are probably preparing with the mindset that the o-line may not hold up all that well.

That’s my hope. BK seems really serene post-2016. Maybe he tells Long to take the lemons of the OL and make lemonade w/ a full on passing attack w/ minimal rushes. That’d be awesome if they had something up their sleeve that no one expects.

The o-line seems to have been excellent in the passing game but it hasn't been tested I guess.

It may be par for the course.

In 2017, we were weak at Center, RT and TE. McGlinchey and Nelson played well, but we severely underestimated how good that UGA linebacker group was. Roquan Smith was able to patrol a huge chunk of the field and keep Wimbush/Adams from beating them. This allowed Carter and Bellamy to just pin their ears back and attack relentlessly and without as much concern for overpursuit, because Smith and Patrick were really good at finding the ball, disengaging and making the play.

This year, we are still weak at Center, but stronger at RG and RT (weaker at LG and LT but still pretty good), and TE (especially with Kmet back) is much better. Georgia has talent in the front 7, but it's not as experienced as the unit from '17. Rice and Crowder are still pretty good ILB's but they're not Smith and Patrick. Their OLB's are talented but inexperienced.

The issue however is that ND doesn't have a Josh Adams in the backfield unless Kyren Williams pulls a Darius Walker and turns into a complete monster, but I don't know how much he'll even see the field. Not sure Tony Jones can get it done himself.

On ESPN matchup predictor, it says: GA - 67.3% and ND - 32.7% chance of winning.

I hope by some miracle we win. Tired of being the underdog in the big games.

Avery Davis and finke were both used on shovel passes for TD's last game.. This was a set up by long and will have Davis run the same play but pull up and throw to wide open receiver.. I see the future

That’s a future that is very possible of happening. I’ve been waiting for them to get Davis to throw the ball at least once. I mean the guy was a QB recruit we should use that skill to our advantage. Maybe a “Philly Special” is in the works tonight who knows. We win on a late Davis pass tonight. That’s my prediction. Go Irish ☘️☘️☘️

Part of me thinks we get our ass kicked tonight but who says this team can’t come out and beat Georgia by 2 touchdowns. If our defense plays like they are capable of and holds Georgia to low points I think it will be close. I think the X factor tonight is going to be Kmet and tremble they will take pressure off Claypool. They need to get Lenzy some touches tonight

Gotta come out fast, and make adjustments on the fly. Can't be starting slow against Georgia and then expect to make halftime adjustments like we have been.

Game Day crowd has been off the hook for some time now. Reports from buds in Athens said the kegs have been flowing for a couple hours already.

My favorite GD sign so far is "Join a Dame conference"

I hope ND comes out and plays like absolute mad men tonight for four quarters. I will be at the game with my brother in law who played football at UGA. Nothing would give me more pleasure than to laugh in his face for hours after a ND victory tonight. Go Irish!!!!!
