#hottake but am I the only one not upset to see Skowronek unavailable for the game? he just doesn't move the needle for me. Too much younger talent on this roster for him to be taking snaps.

I feel like McKinley and he are similar enough that it doesn't make too much of a difference. But it sounded like Ben and Book were really building a solid rapport in Fall Camp.

I don't think it's a huge loss but I don't think having him hurts. He has more career WR production than any other receiver on this roster.

That's easy to say now that FSU is a confirmed train wreck and we won't face a real test for a full month. But if Austin and Lenzy still aren't available heading into the Louisville game, Ben's availability will become a big deal.

He has more career WR production than any other receiver on this roster.

IIRC, Skowronek's career production exceeds all of our other receivers' combined.

Book hates throwing to receivers who aren't wide open, and even then...

I don't think McKinley or Skowronek are particularly good fits for an offense led by Book.

Lenzy is full go this weekend though correct?

Driskell is saying we will be without two defensive starters. Didn’t name names though.

This is not the dangerous USF we’ve seen in recent past.. it’s actually a pretty terrible team with a new HC (Jeff Scott ex Clemson OC) and most of their starters returning, which is not necessarily a good thing.

They don’t have reliable QB play, their past few recruiting classes have been dismal & they don’t have the depth to play 4 full competitive quarters.

We SHOULD destroy this team.. but we know how that goes.

Even with Hamilton out I do think our front 7 handles USF with relative ease.

It’s all on Ian and the offense.. USF has maybe 17 points if they have a great day.

The only question is how many points does Ian deliver?

I'd guess 34 to 37.

biggest thing too watch imo, is they have a speedster at qb.

34-10 would lead me to believe we’re better than what we showed last week.. It is an abnormal year but I hate these excuses with ND..

I knew Clemson would come out and stomp Wake and that’s exactly what they did from the very start while putting in the reserves in the 4th. And I’m sure they’ll have a game they let get too close but it’s not a habitual thing like it is with us.

Let’s hammer this team..

NBCSports Doug Farmer just published an article about the 2011 game v. USF.

The losing team outgaining the winning by exactly double, 508 yards to 254. The winners converting only two of 14 third downs. Their leading rusher gaining just 40 yards while the defeated boasted a back efficiently into triple digits.

Four freshmen with bleached blonde hair, all wearing “The Shirt,” cowering under a tree for two hours.
Eight seniors ordering dorm pizza and emptying an RA’s stockpiles with reckless abandon.
A family bonding around a dryer as its token foolish brother headed back into the rain.
A press box out of food, a locker room actively trying to follow suit, a production truck relying on a finished product from nine months earlier.

I stand by my statement from my debut here. The 2011 South Florida game stands the test of time; it was such a unique experience.

“It was hell.”

Maybe once we exorcise this demon we can finally take the next big step as a program? A man can dream...

When the circumstances of a loss are that freakish, it almost doesn't bother me. We were clearly being punished by God for something there.

3 rushes for 3 net yards last week. Not worried.

They play two QBs, he wasn't just put in against the twos. You are referring to McCloud, their primary passing QB. They also use Noah Johnson quite a bit who is their scrambler. He ran for 49 yards on 7 carries, long of 20.

Both will play according to some articles I read.

I love when when people call on an exception as the rule...

Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk

thats not what happened here. All i stated was it was the only thing that concerned me. You referenced some turd who gained 3 yards.

To think that ND hasnt struggled more against teams with an athletic qb vs one that isnt would be incorrect. So my statement that my only concern is their speedy QB is certainly not calling an exception to the rule. It's accurate that is my only concern, and is based on factual recent history.

making exception would be noting that QB did it against another team's second string.

NBCSports Doug Farmer just published an article about the 2011 game v. USF.

David Ruffer missed a 33-yd FG that ended up being the difference in the score. It gets lost in all the chaos & the five turnovers that occurred in that game.

I heard Fortuna relay a story from USF’s DC at the time, Mark Snyder. He said their team busses were all stopped by police to allow ND’s busses to get to the stadium which they viewed as disrespectful. When the USF busses finally arrived at the stadium, Holtz went nuts yelling about the disrespect, etc and then released the team off the bus who were fired up at this point.

Now before some poster inserts their snarky comments about how that’s not why USF won, I am not saying it is. Fortuna’s point is that once the dominoes started to fall in their favor, their emotional mindset continued to build on that disrespect which allowed them to hold on for the “win”.

ND likely deflates their sky high emotions on that first drive if they don’t cough up the fumble in their goal line jumbo package that gets picked up & returned the other way for a USF TD. Their DC Snyder said as much as was thinking “what have we gotten ourselves into” after that first drive the way ND exploded out of the gate.

The Irish D actually played pretty well that game all things considered.
