It would explain inconsistency with mechanics. Poor guy doesn't recognize himself.

That's why he's the pooch punter.

We had a couple pooch opportunities Saturday. Not sure why Brindza was in the game just to boom it in the end zone. Wasn't one of his punts from the 37? Would have been perfect for Wulfeck.

Ben Turk was an excellent pooch punter from around the ND yard 40 yard line. He consistently pinned the opposition down at their own 40.

Perfect? You've seen him punt?

If the same situation arises vs UM, Wel**** will be in. I think BK was just playing around a bit (Tausch kicking FG's, etc.)

He's supposed to be a situational punter. Punting from no-man's land at the opponent's 37 is about as perfect a situation as it could be.

And technically we've all seen him punt before. He punted against ND in 2011 :)

Here were a couple of his punts from that game. I would hazard a guess he wouldn't have booted the ball into the middle of the end zone.

4th and 3 at ND 42: Alex Wulfeck punt for 39 yards, downed at the NDame 3.

4th and 23 at ND 46: Alex Wulfeck punt for 43 yards, downed at the NDame 3.

Serious question in regards to the punting (especially when from opponents 37): do you guys ever see us putting Rees in the shotgun/pistol and pooch punting it (Big Ben has done this for the Steelers in the past and Rees may have too, can't remember). It keeps the D on their toes and alot of the time they don't even have a return man, making it easier to pin them deep/ hangtime less crucial. Also the DL doesn't really get too much pressure so Rees doesn't have to get it up in the air too much. I mean its more effective in a 4th and around 5 from the 40 inwards, as we really could go for it, or draw them offsides, wait to see how they line up, etc. Would give us options, but I think Wel**** will take over the situational punting and that will be that. Nevertheless, something to think about.
