Did Michigan install a new offense this year? I thought I heard they were.

He would have lit the world on fire at Oregon.

At RB maybe.

Oregon's offense involves too much passing for him to really set the world on fire there. Because of his lack of height and passing ability, he needed to play in the exact offense he was in under Rodriguez. Had he been with Rodriguez as a junior and senior, he would've been exceptional. Michigan's team would have stunk as long as Rodriguez was there though. Defense matters.

Yes, Hoke runs a prostyle O but he mainly kept the spread while he had Denard. I think they tried to add some pro elements last year at the beginning of the season and then realized the Denard was more of a weapon as a running threat than throwing threat. Duuhhhh.
Now that Gardner is the QB he will fully implemented the pro this year, or at least as much as Gardner can digest.

What saddens me a bit is that Robinson could have been one of the all-time greats had he remained in a system that took advantage of his insane elusiveness. Heismans won, NCAA records broken, etc. I'm not sad to see him go, but man, what could have been...

Totally. Denard Robinson was one of the most electric runners I've ever seen. There's a sense in which his career reminds me of Golden Tate's and Jimmy Clausen's ... I fear that history won't remember any of them to have been as good as they actually were because they played on teams that just weren't great.

Agree. Still, Robinson holds the NCAA season record for rushing yards by a quarterback, tied the record for most consecutive 100 yard rushing games by a QB, and is the first player in NCAA history to pass for 2,500 yards and rush for 1,500 yards in a single season. He also holds the season record for most yards gained by a QB. Had he had 4 years in RRod's offense, he would have challenged Pat White's record for most career yards gained by a QB.

He eclipsed Pat White's career rushing, passing and total yards. White had 6049 py, 4480 ry, 10529 ty. Robinson had 6250 py, 4495 ry, 10745 ty. Robinson has the NCAA career qb rushing yard title and the most 200/200 games in a season.

As far as Michigan records he is #2 all time in career rushing yards behind only Hart and ahead of Thomas, Wheatley, Morris, and all the other running backs that have played for Michigan. He is #3 in career rushing td's behind Thomas and Wheatley, #2 all time in ave yds per rush for the season and for a career. He's tied with Hart for most 200+ yd games in a career. As much as people trashed his passing, even with all the qb's Michigan has put into the NFL, Robinson is #8 in career highest completion %, #7 in career highest efficiency rating, #7 in most passing yards in a season, #4 in career passing yards (ahead of Brady, Collins, Harbaugh, etc.). He has two of the top ten passing yards in a game, the #1 and #2 highest yards per completion in a game (minimum 10 attempts), tied for 5th for most 200+ passing games in a career, #11 in ave yards per game in a season and #7 in ave yards in a career. He is #4 in td passes in a career.

He was even more important to the team than the numbers show. He was their emotional leader during a lot of turmoil. He played on some of the least talented Michigan teams in memory and was singly responsible for many of their wins. Without him, Michigan would have been a greater dumpster fire than they were and Hoke would be on the hot seat this season. In one win, Robinson had 101% of the team's total offense. They're going to miss him more than they realize.

Not RichRod's fault. Michigan was still paying a low salary for defensive coordinator. One wonders how things would have played out if Michigan had done for RichRod what they did for Hoke, quadruple the salary and pay SEC money for a dc so they could lure a good one. RichRod's offense with a good defense...

Shoot, it didn't even need to be good. Just good in the secondary and one that could create turnovers. In a RichRod spread, it doesn't really matter if the other team score, just that they don't do it fast. If the opponent is taking a bunch of time running the ball, and you can get a turnover or two. That's all a RichRod spread needs to win.

Heading up to the "Big House" for the game. This will be my first time at Michigan. I'm pumped and ready to watch ND kick some ***.

It's rare teams work out that way, and when they do it's usually because the team is loaded with talent that offsets the weaker side. When you see someone with high octane offense like RichRod, defense inevitably suffers as a result. Has RichRod ever had a stifling defense? Not that I can recall. I'm sure it's not been due to shoddy defensive coordinator work, it's just a tradeoff of manufacturing that high powered offense. The same can be said for coaches that are defensive minded. Kelly was known for his offense prior to coming to South Bend, but he knew he needed something different when he came here. He focused on developing the defense while our offense become somewhat bland in comparison. Theres probably few examples out there of teams that dominate opponents on both sides of the ball week in and week out. Alabama would certainly be an example, but you can still see where defense is the focus there. On offense they're able to beat you with strength and speed, they don't need to scheme as much as other teams.

I'm gonna skip blowing a gasket in front of other parents in favor of not ruining my daughter's birthday... yeah, probably...

DVR the game and then go into the "bubble" Shut off your phone and tell party guests up front that you are in the the bubble and not to even mention the game. Once the festivities are over, self medicate with a few beverages and enjoy the game. As long as you stay in the bubble....you'll be okay.

I've done it successfully in the past....just depends one how bad you want it lol

Why is your daughters party at 5PM on a Saturday? Birthday parties happen on Sunday, or at 1PM. Its in the rule book fergodssakes.

lol...

okay,

My daughter is having a party in the afternoon... then the girls are staying over for a slumbe party... during the ND game multiple parents will be at my house for the party... I do not take ND doing poorly well, especially in this game because the season seems to hang on it every freakin year... two years ago I went to places I care not to share in detail when they came back on us...

to aviod the obvious, I may HAVE to skip it... it's for the good of humanity, and the children.

ACamp, if you break down and decide to watch the game with everyone there...be sure to tape your reaction if we end up losing. It could go viral and make you famous at least.

Dude, my reaction two years ago was SO bad... we had our big living room window open and our neighbor across the street took his lawn chair out to the street to watch me through the window... seriously. It was bad, not proud of it but it was what it was...

but I'm trying Ringo, I'm trying real hard to be the Sheppard...
