So why does MVG have to have a schollie to run the scout team?

it's a pretty significant role for someone...plays a large part on preparation so it is more demanding for him than just regular fill ins or walk ons...extra one available

I have no problem giving one to him if one was available, which one was. I just didn't know, I guess because of the way it was worded, if that was some kind of requirment.

Sigh. Stewart Mandel and ESPN's Tuna have taken BK's "I wonder if we should play all these primetime games" comment and run with it on Twitter.

Yep, take a few words from an entire sentence or sentences and run with it to fit your agenda.

That doesn't sound good.

In context I think this meant that the "treading new ground" aspect was predominantly being felt in the time it was taking to get this resolved, esp. with regard to forming a committee that had never existed before. However, what makes this "new ground" is concerning.

BK did specifically say that no one has told him anything about NCAA implications or vacating wins, so that's a plus.

JW, how was that taken out of context? Sounds like he's saying the school is so tough that they shouldn't play the national games, but IDK how that makes school easier.

I didn't listen to conference.

Stuie and Tuna didn't add in the part about the games being difficult on the kids academics. They made it sound like BK was whining about having to play all these nationally televised games without any real reason behind his complaint.

I just don't get it. Why would it make it tougher on kids if the game's on TV or not?

Sorry I'm missing something obviously.

BK was talking about playing 8pm prime time games but then misspoke for 1 second after that and only said nationally televised which Fortuna tweeted and than steward little from SI said well ND has control of this because of having a television contract...it was only meant about 8PM kickoff times

Added pressure of nationally televised games along w/ the rigors of academics..but his MAIN part was the 8pm Kickoff times as them being very hard on kids

^This. I also think it's the fact that a lot of these primetime games are away, so that means the kids are missing classes, and can't really complete their work during their travels.

Also if you look at a day game at home, the players could, theoretically, get some work done after the game.

@Koon BK inferred the night games as tough on kids and their academics since they end so late.

So BK doesn't like 8pm kickoffs because it hurts their chances to study? Seems a little overboard, IMO. I doubt when the player's come off of a high of a game that started at 330pm and ends ~8pm, wanting to hit the books.

Regardless, whether he thinks that or not, really dumb to say IMO. Nothing like feeding the negative recruiting experts more fire.

BK did misspeak in that he *should* have said "night games" and not just "nationally televised" games, since that's what he meant.

I took issue with Tuna because he either knowingly misrepresented what BK said, or he didn't understand the "night game" context that everyone else seemed to understand. Either way, he was inviting the masses to criticize BK/ND for no reason.

There is more of an oppertunity for them to study after a 3:30 game. Also he is implying the travel that comes with a night game. They aren't getting back until the wee hours of the morning. That takes a toll on a kid who has work to do on Sunday for classes.

Yeah, the comment surprised me too.

I did not hear that portion of the presser so I may be missing context, but maybe the point is that if you have an 8 pm night game, you are getting back to South Bend in the middle of the night, so it kind of kills your Sunday as well as your Saturday. I know Sundays were my heaviest study days in college.

IMO BK shouldn't have said anything publicly. Not a big deal, but a minor misstep in judgement IMO.

It's the next day that you lose. Coming back from those trips is always difficult. Getting back sometimes at 2 or 3am, causes you to lose the next day as well. Difficult from a student-athlete perspective when you have treatment and film, plus your studies the next day.

IT WASN'T A BIG DEAL....it was a small 1 min or less comment regarding academic rigors of ND and this was just an add on at the end...it only became anything because of an idiot who wasn't listening and only going by what Fortuna tweeted...otherwise he would have known

I agree that it's an odd belief, but that's not the issue.

The issue is that an ESPN reporter either knowingly misrepresented the context, or simply didn't understand the context that everyone else was able to grasp.

Either way, he is inviting criticism upon ND for no reason.
