I think I am convincing myself that Tommy is checking way too much. How many other QBs do you see check as much to a different play in CFB?

Powlus did that in '97 in Colletto's offense. Defenses would stunt, he audible, then they'd drop into their original coverage. It lead to a bunch of Delay penalties and broken play. And they knew Powlus was not a threat to run on a broken play.


But could not the Kelly Braintrust figure that out and have him use a fake audible and run the original play?

Davie and Colletto never overcame it.
