The huge difference between this year's Purdue game and the Purdue of the past 2 years is that our offense is led by a QB that is putting up Heisman like numbers. That's why I'm expecting a blowout
His QBR is in the top ten though I believe. He is? He hasn't topped 300 yards in a game. In fact Tommy Rees had more yards passing through two games (2013) than Golson does now.
t-15th in passing touchdowns
37th in passing yards
41st in completion percentage
51st in passer rating
Brady Quinn went off for 487 yards and 5 touchdowns in his third game in 2005. It would be nice if Golson could do that against Purdue.

1. Will Notre Dame be a playoff contender?
Travis Haney: No, because it isn't winning at FSU and USC. It's an eight- to 10-win team, one that is vastly improved on offense because of quarterback Everett Golson, but let's not get carried away with the Michigan win. The Wolverines looked just like the version that flat-lined late last season, OC change or not. I like Notre Dame. It has an outside shot at a New Year's Six bowl game, depending on how things go. But it's not a playoff team.
Kevin Weidl: Yes. This a much better outfit than I anticipated after watching the Irish on tape. Golson is executing the offense at a high level, and the defense -- which features the most athleticism and speed it has had on that side of the ball in a long time -- should keep Notre Dame in every game. The Irish have a daunting schedule, but if they can navigate it with one or two losses, they will be in the conversation for one of the playoff spots.
KC Joyner: No. They may look like one for the next few weeks, but a brutal schedule is part of why ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) projects the Fighting Irish to finish the season with at least two losses.
Ryan McGee: No. I think they are better than most expected because Golson suddenly looks like Cam Newton. But their schedule has too many big land mines in it with Stanford and Louisville at home and trips to Florida State, Arizona State and USC. But even if they aren't in the playoff, they will get plenty of opportunities to ruin another team's playoff chances and snatch up one of the other top-shelf bowl invites that the playoff committee will also be doling out.
Cam Newton wut? Did EG pick up 4" and 40lbs somewhere?
I just have a bad feeling about this one. I think Purdue is going to score a FG.
Field position and the fact that our receivers are dropping the bloody ball is keeping him from eclipsing the 300 yard mark. Not only that, but Rees threw the ball 51 times compared to 34 for Golson against Michigan.
I'm with Koon and the squad, no let down in the Shamrock Series. Pretty much every one of them, minus Arizona State, has been a blowout.
Irish take it 62-7
Get you some

I'm afraid my bladder would not appreciate it.
You coming up for the game?
ESPN isn't being unreasonable right now. This is 2012 all over again, let's be fair: over the last decade we've started in the top 25 often and rarely finished inside of it.
We need to win, win big, win close games, fight, handle adversity, etc. So far, we've dominated inferior competition, that's it. Michigan carries a bigger name but it's strength was smoke and mirrors and we pants'd them on national television.
All we need to do is win. If we get to 5-0, then we can talk about disrespect if people aren't taking us seriously. If we get to 10-1, 11-1, 12-0 and people aren't giving us a chance, then we have a reason to gripe.
Win and the rest is just noise.
Fuck em

I do think we are a much improved team, but you are spot on. Beat Stanford and we can start talking about bowl and final four possibilities. I stand by my earlier prediction that we will hang 40 on Rice/Purdue/Syracuse, which we should do if we are "that good". The UM win was good, and far better than I imagined, but Stanford is the first true hurdle and measuring stick IMO.
Agree with both of you, but here is one significant difference. We steamrolled both teams. In the past we may have won, but we haven't buried them like we should.
