Ive been away for a few days but I have said that with the way this season has gone so far that I think the future of this program is that we are a 6-8 win team with maybe a few BCS season sprinkled in every 6 years or so. This comment has gotten me more red reps than any of the other crazy **** I have said over the last 4 years of posting here.

I truly think that that is just our destiny. With the exception of last year every year since 2008 we let a team that has no business even competing with us beat us and we always seem to let at least one of our "big" regular season games get away from us maybe more than that. This season I think there is a very good possiblity we could finish 7-6 or 8-5 depending on who we played in our bowl and even though Golson might be back next year with us losing some of our defensive players I dont know how some you think that we are destined to be any better than the middle of the road type team that I think we are.

This isnt a fire Kelly thread (if we fire kelly I think all of us need to come to grips that our time wont come again because Kelly is the last coach that would want to come here with some potential to be great) this isnt a thread where I think the sky is falling (if 8-4 seasons include wins over USC year in and year out 4 losses to respectable teams and bowl wins ehh not great but after sitting though some 3-9, 5-7, and 6-6 years where we lost to our biggest rivals and lost our bowl I can live with being only a few games above .500 in that scenario) I just want to know what makes you think we can make the next level again. What makes you think that next season will be any better than this season. I want to be as optimistic as some of you so please sell me on why I should feel as positive as some of you.

Beating USC every year is pretty a far fetched expectation.

IMO, a good ten year stretch would look like (new scheduling not taken into consideration

Beat USC and Michigan 50% of the time

Beat Stanford, MSU 60% of the time

Beat Pitt, Purdue, etc. 80% of the time

Beat service academies 100% of the time

Pitt was only a 4.5 point underdog. Your entire post from the second paragraph downward is invalid as it's based upon a false supposition.

When is the last time we lost when favored before the pitt game? USF opening game in 11'? Maybe we were favored by a half a point or so vs FSU in the bowl game? Seriously I'm pissed and disappointed too by the loss but people are acting like the program needs to be disbanded or something. We beat 3 really good teams this year in Mich State, Arizona and USC (Maybe SC isn't really good but every win against them should be cherished after a decade of non-competitive *ss beatings to them).

This program is at the very minimum a far better place then it was under the previous 3.0001 adminstrations ( I guess O'leary counts as .0001, right?) And you know what? I say that even thinking we might take a step back next year. Defense has numerous questions and though we get a far more physically gifted QB back he will be a year removed from any competition and very rusty. Plus we face a daunting schedule on top of it all.

Ok, sure not really reassuring but at least our defense doesn't play like a high school scout team anymore, even if it has been very average this year.

Not every year but we take the role they had from 02 till now where we are in control

Everything is cyclical and I am sure you know what that means! This program is recruiting players with great potential to do great things! This program is changing from what it was to what it will be in regards to a possible placement of a Jumbotron and astro turf. This program is advancing to play tougher schedules, which make for more exciting games.

I/we know that losses to teams that should have been won are a kick in the junk. I/we also know that we have been traveling down this road for longer that we would like (with the exception of last year). The future should look bright to you, me, us, and them.

I'm also one who nearly kicks the television of the wall, tears tee shirts, rips hats, and feels like sh!t the day after a loss but I still look forward to the next weeks games or next season.

To sell you on something like Notre Dame football is like selling you food that you have already paid for and eaten! Here's to a win against BYU and Stanford!

Go Irish!

This is a good post. Not to mention we had literally 9 defensive linemen out or injured against Pitt, and 20+ total injuries this year, and had some insane calls...

Just an insane overreaction by people to a one score loss to a team we were barely favorites over.

I don't think our program in down-trending....however I do feel we need to take a serious look at our DC and especially our OC. Our play-calling would be bad for a middle school football team and I feel we need a real OC.

Same old same old from you Rudy. Nothing has changed in your years of posting here. Even when things are going great, you spread your misery here. And when we lose? OMG you are beyond help lol.

You do this all the time...and then you come back and say you were in a dark place in your life when you posted your misery and ask for everyone's forgiveness (while in the next breath saying how awful ND is lol). Dude, you might be the most depressed person I've ever 'met'. Cheer up dude!

Not reading your post. Based off the absurd title of this thread and your previous posts, it's the same bullshits you always post.

-We have Golson coming back which adds another whole chapter to this offense.

-We have some play makers on the offense (Robinson,TF, Fuller)

-We have some huge defensive recruits (Jaylon, Max, Luke, Rochell, Butler, Kinlaw)

-The '14 Class is shaping up well (even though we all have our own opinions of Offers)

-The ACC added us to their conference for 5 games build the conference which shows the value us.

-Who would have thought that last year we would have ended up in the BCS title game.

-For the most part they have done a good job at the next man in.

-Harry Hiestand is killing the country in O-line recruiting.

-Kelly has the trust of the Admin enough they are willing to give him things on his checklist. (music, possibly turf,)

-I forgot that Kelly is 3-1 vs USC

I do believe this a very good start.

6-8 win team is pretty negative considering the fact that if we don't win again this year, Kelly is winning 8.75 games per season.

To even get to an 8 win average, BK would have to start having some sub 6 win seasons pretty soon.

Sorry to say it but there is no hope for you as you always look at the negative side. Based on your previous posts, maybe you just need to change your attitude.

I will sell you this, with Golson at QB we may very well be undeafeated this year up to this point with a max of one loss. Not to knock Tommy but ant mobile QB probably close to Golso also, but Golson can pass better than most. As to the future-offense is loaded next year. O-line is loaded for years to come, maybe some can even cross over to D line? By the way, I would love to see Troy Niklas about 5-10 snaps per game at D end!

Bro I'm doing great everywhere else no dark place right now! Other than losing to Pitt the last few weeks have been amazing! I seriously want to see what everyone else is seeing that makes next season will be any better than this one. Tell me what makes the kool-aid good. I even said after some years that I've seen going 8-4 every year would be awesome as long as the 4 are losses to respectable teams and we don't allow any rivals to go on 8 year streaks against us. Y'all have every reason to be skeptical of me but for real this isn't near as bad as it has been.

I'm skeptical because if we don't win another game this year, we are still winning 8.75 games a year under BK. Which means, the numbers say that we have to start winning less than 8 games a year in the future. Every season we win more than 8, your 6-8 game average becomes harder to actually get to. Shoot, to get to the low end of your average (6), we need to start having some 3-4 win seasons in the future. We are currently doing better than what you say we should expect going forward.

Sorry, I don't see that.

I will give you the courage to post your questions. I've been a member here for a few years and sometimes it seems as though you need to follow the masses. Bro, believe and feel what you need to. Although I don't post every second of the day, month or years at a time does not mean that I don't want ND to win.

If you are having feelings of doubt or are feeling like crap because of the loss to Pitt, that's the way you feel and no one can take that from you. Keep on trucking brother and keep the faith!

Bright spots:
-Golson coming back
-Folston, Bryant, Elmer, Stanley, Robinson, Zaire, Fuller, Smith, Kinlaw, Redfield, Hunter and some I'm forgetting being sophomores next year
-another great recruiting year that will only continue the upward trend
-improvements every year in field facilities that ND has never allowed before
-advent of field turf and, dare I say, (dare! Dare!)...a jumbotron
-more winning seasons consecutively then we've seen in many years
-a season that ends with a unexpected victory over The Tree

The future is bright. All is well.
