Say a prayer for Ryan Newman

Newman was leading Daytona coming out of the final turn and got into the wall and flipped upside down and t-boned by Corey LaJoie. I don't see how he's gonna make it through that, expecting the absolute worst. Horrific to see live. Absolutely sick to my stomach.

I'm not a NASCAR fan but I always check to see how he dows because he's from South Bend, graduated from LaSalle. Prayers are with his family.

Nope. They haven't said anything though Twitter said the hospital is going to say something soon. Told the reporters to gather for a statement.

This was from some guy videoing on his phone shouting at Newman’s crew. Super sad. Prayers are going up.

Looked bad, but the car's bones seem to have held. I thought it was going to blow with all the fuel pouring out. At least I thought it was fuel.

At first I was worried because they were handling it exactly the way they handled the Dale Sr. incident.

But it’s been so long without an update that now I’m hopeful it was a serious injury and that he’s got a chance to pull through.

Yup, I was really afraid for them when the first guys got here. If you watch the vid I posted, you can see the liquid gushing out, and right before that it was flaring up. Scary stuff, and those guys are boss. And hats off to the guys designing/building those cars. Not too many years ago, that car would have been demolished.

Anytime something like this happens, people who dont watch NASCAR start chiming in with nonsense like Blaney should be kicked out of racing, winning isnt important enough to create a wreck, etc.

What happened to Newman is scary as hell, and not your typical NASCAR wreck, but even he would agree what happened is part of their sport. Newman made his move by blocking, Blaney made his by not lifting. Both parties are trying to win. End of discussion.

So glad he made it through. The black screens coming out, and sending media away as they extracted him made me very nervous.

Blaney got one hell of a run with Denny behind him. This isn't like driving on I-95. A car gets behind you and you can get one hell of a run.

I have friend who works at Halifax Hospital and actually on the floor where he is. It’s very serious and one of the trauma docs was not to happy about the media saying it wasn’t life threatening because if anything turns for the worse the Hospital would look terrible. I won’t go into details but prayers are needed! Whole thing is scary but it’s the sport he chose and I doubt he has regrets.

Walked out of the hospital with no shoes on.

I'd have stepped on a rock, torn an ACL on the way down and capped it off with a broken hip.

Still in shock he's alive.
