It seems that no one is safe anywhere and that is frightening. I can't comprehend how someone could do this. How can people be so evil?

As soon as this happended I sent a text to my brother 8 years younger than myself and still in high school. You are right it makes me feel uneasy. Nobody is safe anywhere it seems.

Once again I pray for the victims and their families my heart weeps for them.

Have you seen anything on if the shooter was a parent?

I read it earlier and now it has been taken off and the station Im watching isn't saying anything about the identity of the suspect.

The only updates that i am putting in here are from what former FBI director that works with the CBS staff is reports. His name is Jon Miller. He has mentioned that the early word was yes it was a parent but not sure if that is 100% correct.

There's almost always mental illness involved in these types of mass shootings. Can't often categorize a diseased mind as black or white.

No. This is evil. And obviously pre-meditated. I'm not gonna give this human piece of garbage the luxury of the excuse of mental illness.

Since they're saying he's a parent (don't know if confirmed or not) and he drove in from Jersey...I'm betting it's a custody thing.

CNN and fox are reporting that the shooter was 20 so highly unlikely that he was a parent.

And diseased or not he was pure ****ing evil.

Sin is subjective. We have no idea whether this individual was able to appreciate the consequences of his actions. In fact, by simple virtue of his having done this, he's at the very lease a sociopath, and there are probably other serious mental issues here as well.

You apparently don't believe mental illness is real. You're fortunate that no one you know has been afflicted by it.

Abc says 24, so he could be a parent.

All I know is an angry person might kill their wife.

Disturbed people might kill their whole family.

What kind of person is angry with their family and decides to go to an elementary school and kill as many people as possible?

Something is seriously wrong with this picture.

It's not that I don't believe it.....but I also don't buy that it's an excuse for EVERYTHING these days.

We always seem to want to attach some disorder to this stuff to try and hlep US cope with the tragedy.....He may be crazy, or may just be evil.

I am sure mental illness had a role, but for another reason this happens so much more in the US, mental illness is everywhere, yet its rare to hear about things like this in other developed countries.

I don't yet (coming in late April)...but the first thing I did was call my wife and tell her that I won't let a day go by without telling our children that I love them.

This is just unbelievable.

1) Its about the victims first and foremost.

2) Its about cherishing those around you and realizing that security, safety, and mortality are more fagile than we often realize.

Not your views on mental illness, gun control, etc.

I wasn't trying to make a political or legal argument. Everyone is understandably angry and disgusted with such wanton violence against innocent children. Many are expressing that anger by condemning the shooter as evil and hoping that he burns in hell. That's also understandable, but it's not a very Christian reaction. If you're praying for the victims of the shooting, consider praying for the shooter as well.

This sort of "evil" is common in movies, but pretty rare in reality... at least in this country. Everyone thought the shooting of Gabriel Giffords was politically motivated, until it became clear that Jared Loughner was truly crazy, and should have been in an asylum.

There is no way to ever explain a heinous act like this. It brings us all to tears because it is so base and senseless. 18 innocent little children and 8 adults there to help them gunned down for what?
I just left my kids elementary school where I volunteer every Friday and sadly this thought has crossed my mind. My school has a security door and its the only way to get in, but lots of angry parents come in there. It just sickens me that someone planned this out and went through with it and even had HELP. So disgusting.

I'm a high school student in Danbury CT, where the large area hospital is. Victims are there and the hospital is on lockdown

We just did a student exchange between Danbury HS and Newtown HS. We're all in shock.

God Bless

Seems the shooter's mother was one of the teachers he killed at the school today. So maybe it was his father whose body was found at the home?

Is this really the sort of conversation you want to have in this thread? You think tempering hatred in order to stall hatred belongs only to the haughty? Hatred cannot solve what it began.

My prayers go out to the teachers, the kids, their parents. My prayers also go out to every person out there who believes they don't have a choice but to do something so heinous; may you know and choose a better way.
