Jarron and his Aquinas team won sectionals (6th inna row for AQ) with ease last night.. They now move on to states. Will deff go catch at least one of the games.

Watched him in the first half last night with my 5 year old. He looks like a man amongst boys on the field was predominantly used on the D-line and looked good at the snap getting off the line. Also was lined up in some packages as a Tight End but only as an extra blocker. Overall impressive young man on the field and seemed to be a class act. (just my 2 cents)

Yea, glad to see ND is being aggressive and not just looking at scores. With our Academic support he will thrive.

There's a high probability he was referring to a 1600 score not 2400 because Notre Dame doesn't look at the writing section. 960/1600 isn't thatt bad for an athlete.

All depends on whether it was out of 1600 or 2400.

Out of 2400, I would doubt he gets in.

I am just not a believer in those ACT/SAT Tests. As a NCAA Coach for 11 years, I always go back to my athletes and what they accomplished. One who got a 910 on his SAT (820 was the minimum-I believe 1600 at the time was perfect). And he graduated in 4 years with a Mechanical Engineering Degree with a 3.4 GPA. Or another who came in with a mid 800, and he graduated with a Business and Finance Degree with a 3.2 average.

I had several more in the same boat with under 1000 SAT and successful college students.

some kids flat out struggle with tests...i've seen it, it's not fair, but it's the way it is...i agree many kids have the capability thrive outside the assistance of these tests.

I guess it's safe to say Kelly got ND to lower athlete academic qualification. Even if that is out of 1600, that means he got about a 480 on the English and Math sections, out of 800. Needless to say, a normal student would get laughed out of the admissions building. But like you guys said, there's nothing to indicate he can't turn it around with the support staff at ND - and it helps that he's such a beast

I'm all for lowering standards as long as we maintain one of the top graduation rates. I'm sick of being content at 8-4, 9-3. I want to be a powerhouse. 10 wins or more, every year. We have the money to be both a football factory and a top academic program.

True. The graduation rate is what matters, and that's what the support staff excels at. Holtz usually got a few less-than-qualified athletes in, so I assume Kelly is doing the same.
