I've long lived by this rule also... luckily pretty good SD quality stuff is moving further and further north every year it seems.

Del Taco is pure s-hit IMO. It is no different than White Castle, Jack in the Box, etc. Regionalized crap locals think is better than the other national chains simply because it's in their city.

Agreed. I thought it was awful. I'm not standing by Taco Bell except for a late night drunken snack, but Del Taco sucked. Gotta get tacos on the side of the road or at a hole in the wall.

Man, wish they had other options likes this around my way. They just closed the Roscoe Taco not too far from my house, now it's only Taco Hell.

Speaking of on the side of the road, one of the best tacos I ever had was from a food truck out of Indy. I remember two things very distinctly about it... the girl was from Dubai, and her name was Prussia. And a third thing... her tacos were blow-your-mind amazing.

There's a hole-in-the-wall type of place in Northern Kentucky called Rio Grande. Best Mexican food I've had. If you order the $10 fajitas (I go with steak and chicken), you get a still-cooking skillet that is piled up like a mountain of meat, peppers, onions and tomatoes. It's incredible. You get a separate plate with tortillas, lettuce, beans and rice. The amount of food is insane. Same when you order anything, especially their quesdillas which can't even hold all of the meat they give you. I wish I had a picture to do it justice.

We actually have some pretty good Mexican restaurants in Indy. But nothing fast food. E. and W. Washington St. (the street that runs down the middle of downtown) has the best, lil' Mexicos of the city.

There's a little purple house on the north side of E. Washington at around Sherman or Keystone? Don't remember the name. They've got limited hours but some pretty good Mexican. Tijuana Flats on 96th just off of I-69 is pretty good. The Mexican place in front of Krogers on E Washington has great steak tacos, although I try to avoid that area as much as possible.

I've had to travel to just south of Fort Worth for the last couple of months to towns called Burelson and Joshua. Seems like every other restaurant is a taco joint or a donut shop. There was one little strip mall that had maybe 6 or 7 businesses in it and two were donut shops just two doors apart.

I'm not proud of it, but I love chili cheese burritos from Taco Bell.

But then I always feel terrible, both physically and emotionally, whenever I break down and get some.

This is the only thing I will eat at TB. I get extra cheese and drown it in hot sauce.

Mexican food truly sucks in SC. Can't find anything authentic.

I don't know about the best taco, but the best margarita you'll ever have is served at Miguel's Cocina:

It's made with Don Julio 1942 Tequila ($$$), Triple-sec, 3 fresh lemons juiced in front of your eyes, dash of sweet'n'sour and a Gran Marnier topper. BEST EVER. It'll run you $14, but it's sooooooo worth it.

Just make sure to go to the actual restaurant nestled in the center of the shops across the street from the Hotel Del Coranado and not Miguelito's, which is on the street/store front. You'll know you found it when you see the drink shack I posted above. Order a 1942 and have some chips and salsa while you wait. It's hidden away, but always busy.

Oh I love me a Margarita... especially a Cadillac Margarita like Sac describes.. the best i've ever had was at the main lounge at the La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe (Where the cast of the Young Guns movies stayed during filming), I mean this was legit unlike anything I've had in Cali.

That is El Jaripeo, love it. Place we usually go when having Mexican...salsa is super hot, yum.

I'll have to check out this purple house you speak of. Must be Keystone because I'm pretty darn familiar with Sherman and Washington....ghetto just a tad.

This is my local place in CT. The picture doesn't do it justice but it's really quite good (though pricey).

They make this dipping sauce... I have no idea what it is but it tastes like jalepenos pureed with some kind of sour cream.

It's in Newport. The margaritas are giant, cheap, and I've been told they're really good. I don't drink margaritas though, I'm not big on tequila.

Got to be really careful with travel to Mexico. What town were you considering? The areas near the border are absolute shit. Tijuana is a good place to get grabbed up and wind up in a Mexican jail, the gang war violence is off the charts from their Narco Drug Lord bullshit and if you go too far south or east the tacos aren't really the same; it's a regional thing.

If you want to play it safe, San Diego. If danger is your middle name, head down the coast of the baja to Rosarito.

I think it was in Michaocan(sp?) but yeah that is no go right now and the forseeable future.

But I have a friend that said I could crash with him and his family way down in southern mexico. No tacos but he said they got some good stuff.
