That being said, this is a topic better suited for the political section of NDnation. I come here to get away from stuff like this. There are a variety of political beliefs in addition to religious beliefs, and why Notre Dame is a Catholic institution, it does not limit its fans to only practicing Catholics or traditional Catholic beliefs. Politics is a sensitive subject that I would rather be kept out of the one place I feel like I don't have to keep a political guard up.

So, respectfully, I hope you decide to take this conversation away from Irish Envy. Because this is a place for football, joking and fun. Nothing about this thread helps us advance any of those subjects.

Cheers back at'cha. I've always liked you, too. However, I am sure there are different forums here for different reasons. I would never have dreamed of posting this thread in the ND football forum, or the recruiting forum. But, I accepted on its face the statement on the Leprachaun Lounge forum that "Everything's game here." I can't fathom that a Catholic priest's homily on a critical issue facing the Church would be inappropriate for this particular forum, especially on a website devoted to, not only Notre Dame football, but as the many forums and topics addressed throughout the past show, to all things Notre Dame.

Sorry if I offended you, but if the mods think this thread is inappropriate for postiing in the Lep. Lounge, I am sure they will delete it.

YES could not agree more with Wooly. I've recently started to read/post at IE regularly because I like that IE is a community that engages in focused, passionate discussion of ND football (and related topics) without taking itself too seriously. Nanker, you've been posting here way longer than I have, no disrespect at all, and this is certainly a topic worthy of discussion, but I for one will be relieved if it is not discussed here.

Emcee77, no disrespect intended for you or anyone else here, either. I am just not sure why this topic doesn't fit within the Leprechaun Lounge's invitation: "Got something on your mind? Share it. Everything's fair game here." In the meantime, I have received as many positive reps for the post as I have protestations. So somebody must like it and think it appropriate material for the Lounge?!

Again, nobody is forced to read, respond, or discuss. And if the powers that be who run this place think this isn't an appropriate topic for the Lep. Lounge, they can delete, as is their absolute right.

This type of post is one of the reasons the Lep Lounge was set up. Over the years there have been some informative discussions on controversial viewpoints by those who wish to discuss and not just argue. Unfortunately there have been other posters who can't discuss issues and resort to screaming, cursing, browbeating and misstating the other viewpoint. As with a football thread that's where a moderator should moderate the discussion.

It's a timely topic.

Personally, I rather read this type of discussion than read repetitive posts of a fan savaging an 17 or 18 year old high school QB because that fan like's some other QB and wants Kelly to withdraw the offer to the kid the fan doesn't like.

In either forum "Post Like A Champion" not like a chump.

While I understand other's angst about the subject, I have to support NankerPhelge on this one. The Leprachaun Lounge is devoted to these types of discussions.

I also appreciate everyone's thoughtful replies. It's a "hot" topic, one which no one is obligated to follow.

As a college professor, one of the fundamental liberties that I tried to honor [within reason given the structure of the classroom and the overall general good of education within the context of the class] was the free expression of ideas/beliefs whether they were based on unsound information or reasoning or not.

Because IE has deliberately established the Leprechaun Lounge for this sort of thing [again within certain minimalist restrictive guidance], I will certainly support anyone's desire to post anything in here. I also honor my own freedom of expression not to participate in any such discussion/opinion exchange, and that will be my stance on the substance of this particular thread. I trust that everyone who understands IE will view that as "fair enough".

Agree the LL is the place for this conversation. Agree with BGIF and JohnnyKillz, and everyone else about their views. Agree that IE is devoted to football. Agree that people come here to escape politics, etc. to get lost in the Irish.

So... what to do. Consider not making LL coversations viewable in front page list of threads. If you want to read topics outside of ND sports, click on the LL icon.
