I'm unfortunately being relatively serious. Chet Coppock recently tweeted that BK will be interviewing as early as Monday with Detroit. And reports out of Detroit are that the owners focused on the 3 coaches... O'Brien, BK, and Dungy....

So why not introduce the new DC publicly?

If he's not going to be ND's DC.

False.

Yup, this is spot on. The soon to be named thread should be titled "ND Defensive Coordinator, Uncle Rico." I wonder if he can still chuck a football over a mountain.

Reports are O'Brien is working on his deal with Houston.
Dungy, as a Lions fan, I would cry....tears of joy. But I just don't see it. Altho Jackson Michigan is his hometown and about an hour from Detroit.
As far as BK. Hopefully he would see that altho the Lions have an ass load of talent, it is not a job a first time coach would be successful at. Bur then again BK has a history in Michigan

I doubt BK is going anywhere. I won't believe any rumors or reports till I see an official announcement. I'm willing to bet a lot of people will have their panties in a knot until all NFL positions are accounted for though.

someone please help me understand this hire after reading this

"VanGorder is in his first year as linebackers coach with the Jets after serving as Auburn's defensive coordinator last season. The Tigers went 3-9 with his defense, including 0-8 in Southeastern Conference play. "

Or that in his one year as HC at Georgia Southern the school had their worst record in school history. I don't like this hire at all.

So this is my take away~
Positives:
Familiarity with coaching staff (Longo/Kelly)
NFL experience
Good run at Georgia
Negatives:
Head Coach record
Year at Auburn

My question is what makes people think he is a good recruiter?

I feel a lot better now that Kelly hired and made public his DC.

I don't think Kelly is going anywhere now after he made the public.

If he had intentions of meeting/leaving then to me that would be a dick move to take someone away from their current job to bring them in on a new gig and then jet leaving them in the wind if the new coach doesn't want them unless they would intend to bring them to their new gig.

ESPN

...Kelly said Saturday after Notre Dame's win in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl that the Irish have their new defensive coordinator in place, but he would not reveal the name because the contract has not been finalized.

An official announcement is expected shortly after the NFL regular season ends.

In his one year at Auburn their defense was bad because they had lousy players. Hell they weren't that good when they won the NC. That was all Cam Newton and Gus Malzahn. All you have to look at is his Georgia defenses where 3 times they were ranked top 10 in nation and twice top 5. And he was a very good DC with the Falcons which were playoff teams. This is an excellent hire.

Everyone take a deep breath. BK wouldn't hire a DC only to be leaving. Besides, what coach would accept a job knowing he might be replaced in a month because the guy hiring you might leave? It doesn't pass the common sense test.

As far as this hire, all you have to know is that I approve! :headbang:

Well in the quote above it does say Notre Dame hired its DC. Says nothing about BK hiring his. Just sayin.

Where would Kelly find the time to interview with an NFL team that hasn't even fired its coach during the middle of bowl preparation? And why would he hire a defensive coordinator if he hasn't even been hired?

This makes me feel a whole lot better that Kelly interviewing with the Lions is just rumors now that it has been reported somewhere. Thanks

If BK were interviewing Fox, Yahoo, ESPN or someone would have this. Not even a sniffle.

It's been mentioned that:

1) contract w/ND not finalized yet

and

2) They intend to announce after NFL regular season concludes (which makes sense since he's still an employee of the Jets).

Jimmymac has been straight reckless lately.

Haha. I'm just highly skeptical of the current situation, that's all.

As for GB, at the time of my statements I saw no possible scenario in which Greg returned this year. Things change.

Fair enough. But I would like then for BK to come out today and say he has absolutely no interest in the Lions job or any NFL job and that he is only concerned about the future of this program. Until then, I will remain skeptical.
