Let's not pretend that Cooks hasn't done an amazing job this year and isn't worthy of a coordinator job either. We've got some great position coaches here.

Yeah I think he gets a raise and some new job duties... If the next 2 seasons we do great I think he goes to a good program.

I honestly feel this is the most likely scenario...^^^^^^^^ based on gut feeling...

#NotreDame HC Brian Kelly on report Bob Diaco will talk to BC: "It wouldn’t be surprising to me that they would be after Bob Diaco.

As the DC? That scares me

This system has worked. Considering everything I know about BK and the fact that we could keep the same system by promoting guys that already know it, I see that as the most likely scenario. And that scares me WAY less than bringing in someone from the outside and having the players and the remaining defensive staff all have to learn a new system.

Elliott isnt going to be a DC at this point in his career. Cooks or Martin would take over. ND has a good thing going. Lou had a nice pipleline of asst coaches getting jobs after ND too. The whole staff are motivators and appeal to their players. Who is to say Cooks/Martin wouldnt do a better job. If we get a ring...then Diaco could take any job he wants.

He has done his job all year...he suddenly isnt going to not do it for the Title game. Kelly and Te'o are going to miss more time around the team than Diaco. Everything will be fine lol

Bob Elliot has had tremendous success as a Defensive Coordinator and Kerry Cooks has done well this season too.

Promotion from within would be the BEST thing to do if Diaco left.

Who is to say that they wouldn't go with him? Diaco because brought Elliot to Notre Dame right?

Give Diaco a blank check already!

What HCTI said... Hey Jack, that's Kelly not-so-subtly telling you to write a check.

I doubt both would go. I think Cooks would stay if he were given the DC job. Would you rather be a coordinator at BC or ND?

I didn't think we would have this to worry about. But why take a job at a place like Bc that's going to be a bottom feeder in the Acc. Wouldn't be smart on his part.

I don't want him leaving until it's time to replace Ferentz at Iowa. I like keeping the Fry tree heading up the Hawkeyes.

Cooks could be the DC as well. Also you could look at coaches that have been fired as well.

Cooks is already co-DC, isn't he? If Diaco leaves I'd think chances are really really high that he becomes the sole DC ... or mayyyybe become asst. head coach/DC (like Diaco now) and share the DC title with Elliot.

I will be devastated if Diaco leaves, but if Cooks and Elliot (and Elston) stay I'll be hopeful that things will work out fine.

I wouldn't be shocked if Booker moves to defense. He played safety at Kent State, right? And I believe he was a DB coach at Western Kentucky or somewhere like that before he came to ND as an offensive intern. Lot of background on the defensive side of the ball.

We'd definitely have to bring in another full time coach though ... not sure who that would be.

I don't get this. If I were him, I'd pad my resume at Notre Dame for another year or two and wait for a big-time job to open, like a Texas or USC type opening.

That being said, however, **** me this sucks

I'm sure he would stay for the champ game.

For future Martin could go possibly go back to defense. He was a DC for BK at GVSU. Maybe bring back Quinn from Buffalo as the OC. He was BK's OC at GVSU, CMU and Cincy. I was hoping we could have a few more years before this happened though.

I was thinking this too but they just gave Quinn a 5 year extension.

This is another thing I was thinking at first ... but if they're smart, programs like that won't hire someone who hasn't proven himself as a head coach. Bob Davie and Charlie Weis are exhibit A and B on that.

Really? Damn. I was hoping BK could lure him away somehow. Guess he's comfy being a HC at a losing NAQ school.

Ya. Texas isn't hiring a guy without HC experience. Neither is USC. I could see Texas going after Sumlin in a year or two if Mack attack can't right the ship.
