First things first, I think we need to look at the ex-Penn State linebacker coach. Would be a great fill for a position coach.

DC? I don't know. Maybe Cooks. Elston? Elliot? Are either of those guys going to stay?

What about taking a look at Orgeron? I reallllly don't know if Kelly would be down to work with him based on their icy handshake... but this is some serious shit that needs to be handled ASAP before it gets completely out of hand.

The South Bend Hummer dealerships would be thrilled! Everyone in South Bend would get a Hummer from Ed O!

I don't think we should get our hopes up. If ND won't pay Diaco competitively after winning the Broyles Award, then they sure as hell aren't going to pay for an established coordinator.

At least so far when we have had coaches leave Kelly has made some very good hires. So no reason not to trust him this time.

I said it in the Diaco thread but I think it's cooks and JOnes gets the LB coach job and they hire someone on the outside for the qb job

Does anyone know what he was getting paid? Not many assistants are making 1.5 million

Yeah, the thing is it is easy to promote from within for OC.

DC... that was Diaco's animal. I'm not sure what you do. And the pieces we have on D are all in a specific mold that kind of sucks for certain other systems.

Bring on Ed-O! He's 5X the recruiter Diaco is. Him and Alfrod would be the bash brothers of recruiting.

Can someone post what Diaco was making? Do we know for sure the raises didn't happen after last year? Or is this just Chicken Little speculation? If indeed he's going to get $1.5M per annum to be the HC, would we expect ND to match that as a DC?

This is my biggest worry. There were some D folks that found themselves lost in the mix after Weiss left scheme-wise if I remember right. Perhaps the way Kelly recruits "Big Skill" etc., makes dealing with any philosophy change easier?

This whole idea of reshuffling the staff...I am over it. Go after a real OC and a real DC. People with experience and a proven record.

But that's the point. He does have experience at the position, with BK, and a proven record. Plus, it helps with recruiting and continuity.

Maybe. But you risk creating rifts in the staff and misunderstandings. I imagine when all of the coaches are on the same page and trust each other, everyone (not least of which, the players themselves) are better off.

Damnit I need to get back to studying.

Anyone who runs a 4-3

When we have recruited for years to be a 3-4? I prefer the 3-4 as a scheme anyway, but I definitely don't want a change after spending so much time and effort being very specific in recruiting to profiles to fit this scheme.

Fair point. I just prefer the 4-3 in general. Our MLB depth is pretty weak right now so it's not like it would be that hard to adjust. We would need to recruit more DT (which we should be doing anyway) but otherwise not much would change.

I could not fathom someone leaving an assistant position at ND for another assistant position at UCONN, even if it is OC.
