This is the official dumping ground for all things Region related. Figure a thread here will cut down on me and Crusader going back and forth about the "The City of the Century" and adjoining areas.

I'll start: Region wrestling was underrepresented yesterday (except for Portage and Chesterton) in the state finals. We only had two champions, and 13 place finishers, highlighted by another showdown in the finals where Hobart's Brendan Black beat Portage's Kris Rumph.

*Portage and Chesterton are in a three way tie with Cathedral for team second place.

The Region is under represented he says... 7 of the 14 kids wrestling for a title were Region when you allow for Poletown's SB Washington.

I watched all 3 hours last night on IHSAA's stream. My thoughts...

Joe Lee is cyborg. Mason Parris is a bigger cyborg. (would've loved to have seen Parris beat Gunnar Larson in the semis)

Brayton Lee was fun to watch but pretty sure he was on Heissenberg blue ice. He wrestles like a ferret feckin a football.

Andrew Davison from Cheesetown looks like Andrew Garfield on dianabol. I know Tonte's you're boy and all but I enjoy watching him lose. Reminds me of the d-bag in Karate Kid.

WTF happened to Ben Stewart's eye and when? Holy schnikies. He won semi-state over Tonte and my cuzzo Kurtis Wilderman.. I wonder if the eye cost him a shot at the title?

I noticed there's another jumbo Streck at Merrillville. What's the story?

Lastly, listening to Coach Goebel is a yearly pleasure.

How did "the Region" become the nickname for NW IN? I grew up there and honestly never heard it called that until I moved. It is incredibly dumb.

Spot on assessments:

1. TBH, Davison taking down Tonte doesn't bother me that much. Such a great story there. Davison's dad was the last champ from Cheesetown (two timer in late 80's), so that had to be a very emotional and well deserved special family moment.

2. The Streck Goliath gene is definitely a real thing

3. Gotta plug my boy Leroy Vega. He's got Portage back where we left it in '97 as students wrestling under Larry Tharpe and Ed Pendowski.

Tough, tough, TOUGH kids fighting every second. So proud of what he has accomplished so far as coach. Great guy and teacher.

Because you're a snobby south Porter Co. kid whose parents worked at a bank or something instead of in the Mill like any decent Regionite would. That's why you were banished to Cali. I bet you even get mani/pedi's.

No I'm not from Valpo. My dad worked for Ford in East Chicago for almost 40 years.

Nuke does have a point. I was aware of the term, but never used it (or knew anyone who did really) growing up.

It was in college where I heard it most. People from outside NWI would say "oh, you're from The Region" with quite regularity.

As far as it being stupid, it is what it is. Despite quite a few upbringings in that geographic area being "less than ideal," Region Rat will always be a term of endearment for many of its residents, former and current.

That Michigan gyrosmaker don't know nothin' bout our digits.

Did you dorks make up the name "The Region" or do people really refer to NW Indiana as that? I haven't heard it way over here in Michiana.

There's a completely different language spoken south of the border. You wouldn't understand if ya did hear it.

I was born and raised in "The Region" I just moved away a few years ago and this is the first time I have ever heard it called "The Region". Maybe I always heard it called this but never put any thought into it, which is further proof I am from "The Region".

"Blazers" = Elkhart Central
"46" Football number

I've bounced from Elkhart to Bristol to Goshen to Gilbert, AZ to Goshen and then to Las Cruces, NM.

My Avatar is Elkhart Centrals mascot...... just call me Al Bundy from Polk High
