Recruiting thread etiquette

I wanted to make a thread for people to post suggestions, pet peeves, complaints, and anything else that comes to mind in order to make the recruiting profiles more enjoyable for all of us and our guests. I was going to do this a few months ago, but wanted to wait for after NSD so it would actually go noticed.

My suggestions/pet peeves:

1) Don't bump a thread for no reason. I understand this is arbitrary, but please use discretion. If, say, a 2014 recruit has a ND offer (not committed here or anywhere else), and Baylor offers him, we probably don't need the thread bumped to let everyone know he's on the Bear's radar. At this point, who cares? The type of players we follow on here are going to get a TON of offers. If he's a ND commit? I say bump it. If a month has gone by, and he's picked up a 'dream offer', that matters. If a month has gone buy, and 4 more teams have offered him that aren't shown on the thread, sure, update us please.

Furthermore, if a thread has been dead for a few days or longer, if you're going to post something in it, please add something of value. Don't bump a thread to say 'I hope we get him'. It's annoying.

2) Post your sources! If you post something like 'visiting Michigan', unless you're a very select few on this board, you're going to get asked for your source. Do all of us a favor, and give credit where credit is due. Unless said-recruit is your homeboy and he texted you saying he's 'yo, bro, I'm headed to Michigan this Saturday!', let us know where you heard this information.

These are my suggestions. Doesn't mean I'm right and I didn't start this thread to only share my opinions. Please post suggestions that you think will better the recruiting profiles.

Note - And don't come back with the 'if you don't want to click on the profile, don't'. I click on highlighted profiles because I expect A) an ongoing, well constructed conversation (after all, we're ND fans. Best in the nation ;)), B) Legitimate recruiting news, or C) Something related to the player that is important (i.e., grades, new 40 times, big time offers, player listing a favorite, etc).

Please make your voice heard!

disagree with #1 but it leads into my pet peeve lol

i dont understand why people get in a frenzy about bumping threads ... just because a thread is bumped they automatically jump to something negative? I mean i guess ive learned to temper my emotions for the 5 seconds it takes to load a page. If someone is thinking of decomitting then the minute it takes me to digest the information is not going to change the players intention... If you just dont care baylor offered then fine, i can rationalize that, but if the first reaction is something earth shattering every time you click on a link name, then that doesnt make sense.

I come here specifically for recruiting news. So I enjoy any new recruiting news. I dont mind if you want to restrict the thread bump but I wish the immediate out lash of "i need new boxers now" or "my heart cant take that kind of scare", etc, would end

Pet Peeve 2 -- tangents come fast/at least 50% of the recruits can start immediately -- every year

Tricky subject matter here.

I agree with #1. Could also add random tweets from, or pertaining to, the prospect to that list.

While I appreciate the greatness of IE, I sometimes think there are a few posters who get a little obsessed with being the "first," starting threads, arguing/being the "rogue" voice, or feel the need to comment/update on everything about recruits...or under the sun. It's okay to be judicious and discriminatory in our thoughts and feelings sometimes.

All that being said, I'd hate to lose out on some of what makes IE, IE.

Agree with this too. I've never understood the whole, "you scared me to death by bumping this thread" reaction...let alone the need for numerous people to then comment about said or shared reaction.

I agree with both of you about flipping out over bumping a thread for no reason, but it is annoying sometimes. Again, it's all up to user discretion, there's no formula that says when/what is worth posting, just use your best judgement.

I can ignore a lot, but a big pet peeve is people bumping a thread to ask, "any news on this guy?" Google it yourself, for crying out loud.

Let people post how they want, chances are you do something that gets on their nerves too.

This like who cares

But stop saying RKG and I hope we get him.

Like I really hope we get Eddie Vanderdoes? Geee Wally me too.

Don't bring up the exception (getting Vanderdoes) and act like it will be the norm whenever someone says we have a slim chance at a big time prospect.

Also since a lot of new posters are probably going to read this, italics = sarcasm

The only thing that bothers me in the recruiting thread is when posters begin their little spats they have with one another.

The bump for no reason doesn't really bother me.

Until this becomes a paid site, I don't see the big deal about bumping a thread arbitrarily. Shoot, this very response that I am typing is most likely redundant at this point.

Many of us don't have the time to be on this board 24/7. There will always be a rehashing of previous words and phrases (discussions), simply due to not having time to read through pages of conversation. In addition, if someone wants to join the conversation in a thread by saying they really like a recruit or they think he's an RKG, who cares? Fans are major nerds. Plus, I am sure there are kid/teens that post on here. I always try to be aware of that before I blast someone for writing something simplistic.

I respect the effort to make this a more professional effort, to clean things up a little, but at the end of the day, this is a message board.

If we want to take it a step further then lets stop making profiles for guys we know ND cannot get.

Only problem with that is there is no way to know for certain ND won't get someone. It didn't look too likely for quite a few guys last cycle, but they ended up Irish. Same goes the other way, should we only make profiles for kids like Reilly Gibbons, who was thought to be a lock if offered? Now it seems unlikely he ends up in South Bend, but he has been one of the most discussed recruits of 2014 so far.

I don't see the harm in it

Watching the highlight tape of a guy like Rock Thomas is pure enjoyment even if its unlikely we land him

II is the worst message board in history of boards. 98% of those lunatics live in Candy Land.

I notice the OP didn't mention anything about making fun of another poster's grammar or getting into childish pissing contests. Wonder why?
